You can always rent a camper and stay at Ft. Wilderness. The campers are delivered with everything hooked up when you get there.

At that point, aren't you pretty close in cost (or maybe even over) of just staying in a value?

Oooo...!!! Camper talk...!!! :geek:
For many years back in the day my mom and pop had a cabover camper on a pickup.
It slept our folks, myself, and my 2 younger bros just fine. Shortly after our lil' sis came along, my folks bought a small, used, pop up. 2 mattresses and some storage. Myself and my bros sleeping quarters...!

My in-laws have a camper like that over their truck. They love it. And when we do our annual camping trip, it's a nice place to hole up and wait for storms to pass.

You can rent everything from a pop-up to a glorified RV. There are some companies that that their main business is renting to Ft. Wilderness guests.

I looked into doing the RV rental for Fort Wilderness. The RV's were really nice and I thought it would be fun but hubs was totally against it even when I pointed out we would have our own bathroom/shower. I think the cost was about the same in the end as a moderate resort. Maybe some day.

That's good to hear. When I decided to take my first cruise, I asked some experienced cruisers about the several cruise lines. They all said to avoid Carnaval. One told me her husband, after taking Disney, told her if she wanted him to go with her, they'd have to do DCL. And they do at least 2 cruises a year. Yes, they are more expensive, but I'm willing to pay extra for a larger stateroom, a split bathroom and all the amenities on a DCL ship. Plus, Castaway Cay is amazing. We've got 2 booked for this year already.

That's great!!! Hope y'all have an awesome time on both...!!!
We've also talked to many who have cruised Carnival multiple times without issue, and have had great cruises.
Heck, they have 25 Carnival ships to Disney's 4 (soon to be 6), odds are...
And, the whole Carnival Corporation has over 100 ships in 10 different lines.
We spent very little time in our cabins, although it wouldn't have been uncomfortable to do so. We were just on the go all the time. Like on our Disney trips, we pretty much only use the resort room to crash and clean up.
Our oldest DD and our SonIL (who were with us on this cruise) took their first cruise with DCL on their honeymoon back in April of '14. Yes, they had a great time, but, also loved this cruise, too.
Our DD also commented on how our cabin had more storage and was a little bigger than their DCL aft cabin with a veranda.
To us, right now anyway, hangin' with The Mouse and Castaway Cay just aren't worth 10K+ extra...!!!!! :greedy:

There's a pop-up company that runs just under $100 a night but they are always booked up for months. We looked at doing it at some point and renting a golf cart. On our last big trip we spent a day just doing everything you almost possibly could at FW without staying there, did HoopDeeDoo and finished the night off with the campfire movie. It was Hocus Pocus. Then when we were waiting for the boat from FW to MK we got to see the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes before waiting for our bus.

It's romantic to think about. And likely romantic if it's just two adults. But IMO it's so selfish to raise kids this way. I loved the travel, but living in a bus made almost every other aspect of life as a child difficult and sometimes downright terrible.

Really sorry to hear that. But sounds like you've survived and did okay. It's always a different story when children are involved.

Whatever Carnival's reputation is, our cruise was awesome!!! Everything from the ship itself, to the staff, to the food, to the entertainment, etc.
We priced out a DCL cruise, and it was more than 3 times what we paid with Carnival.
We had aft cabins with verandas. We had 2 cabins for 6 of us for a week. We paid about $4,800 including gratuity. DCL wanted almost $16,000...not including gratuity...!!!!! :greedy:
I definitely don't see us doing a DCL cruise anytime soon.
We're in the same boat (pun intended).

We're pricing a cruise right now, my mom wants to pay a cruise for all of us to get together one last time to let them "feel" a cruise (my sister's family and my brother never been on a cruise). She fears her back is going to keep her grounded in the future. So she wants to go when they all are still capable of doing so.

As for DCL..
You can pay a full 7 day royal caribbean trip for all of us with the money that DCL asks for a 3 day cruise.
They really are getting out of touch with those prices.. both in Disney's properties and prices in general.

Funnily.. renting points in certain areas (like old Key West) is waaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than ANY disney hotel.
Hell, old key west, 2 room villa is cheaper than 2 rooms at POP centuryfor the same days.. by almost 1/3rd.. insane.

Got a call from work about 30 minutes ago and our school district is running a two hour delay tomorrow morning. From what I see outside and reports from people on Facebook the roads are still horrible and the snow is drifting a lot. We have a lot of country roads that haven't been plowed even once yet. It will be strange to go into work for two hours and then leave for the day! But at least I don't have to wake up now at 5 am to shovel!

I hope your appointment goes okay tomorrow. Rest is a good thing, you are lucky to have a job that will let you work from home if needed.
I'm very fortunate. My company has a mentality of not forcing employees to work when they're sick; it's why they give 8 days of paid sick leave. Work is also pretty aware of just how sick I've been. My supervisor told me today that work is not more important than my health and whatever I need to do to get better, they'll be flexible. Which is very nice. My boss also told my team today that I get "a bunch or random s**t that needs to be done taken care of" so I guess they're also happy enough with my performance to give me that trust. :joyfull:

My boss was also starting to get into a particularly loud rant at that point, and we have a new manager in from Poland in this week. You could see him sinking deeper and deeper and deeper into his seat...oh scaring the newbee.:hilarious: The newbee will eventually get that he isn't angry; he just gets much louder and shows much less restraint with language when he's with his team then, say, in a meeting with a bunch of directors...at least I got praised within that rant.

Well, I went to work because we had a long meeting today from 12-5. Now I'm completely exhausted. There was a dinner afterward, but I told them I needed to get some rest. Belle is now on my lap. I'm honestly ready to get some sleep now.

I have an appointment with my allergist tomorrow to make sure he's okay with my change in meds and to see how long he thinks I should stay on the antibiotic and steroids. I'm debating just working from home tomorrow after the appointment. Work is fine with it, and considering how wiped I am...yeah.[/:(QUOTE]

Be well. When I left ya and the thread for a few days I thought you were on the mend with new med. Sorry.

I have lost 3 people in my life in 2 days, so not in a Chit Chat-ie mood. Not family, my town-ies. 3 very good people that are at the core of our very small community. The people that make a difference to the people they live with. As I've been a civic minded person while living here I't is a bit surreal to loose 3 people you interact within the community on many levels as our churches, governmental bodies and schools always cross over, share facilities and share staff and overlap funds to make things happen here. One of the gentleman that passed family has been in our family for decades, another a neighbor that always cared for her cognitively disabled brother. The other a lady that sat on more boards in a lifetime than any of us could fathom. In small towns like mine you never get lost in the shuffle, you are known even if you do not participate yet if you need help the town will be there for you. So over the weekend we lost 3 members of our town that are all 4 generation families. 4 generation families are not abnormal here. We have been here well over 30 years and tongue and cheek we are told we are 'outsiders' ;) though my children were born here, no matter. :joyfull:

We will be a town of calling on families and funerals likely through Saturday. While each family needs their own time to celebrate the life of each lost we all mumbled it would have been great to get them together one last time for one Giant Irish Wake (another thing they had in common.) The final of the trifecta will be Friday and Saturday. A man that should be up for Sainthood, here anyhow. The one our family knows the entire family well. He raised a blended family due to first wife passing and then a few more kids with a lovely lady that raised those first kids as her own. Those kids are my age and their kids being my kids age. A major employer in our town with two businesses. Always there to help those in need through our Lions and Knights. Responsible in large part Church being built years ago and out of the Public School Gym on Sundays. This will be an all hands on deck family calling and funeral as the week ends down to our Public Works and Sheriff orchestrating the logistics.

Given this all I haven't been in a Chit Chatie kinda place. Been loosing myself in Trip Reports for a few days clearing my mind for a time of our towns sorrows.

Be well my friends....
