If the redesign is less than three years old, you might also factor that into your considerations. With cars, a lot of the issues don't come out until you've been driving it for a few years. When a car undergoes a major redesign, you're basically signing up to be the guinea pig if you're one of the first owners of it. Just food for though.

I have a Toyota Yaris and that thing is a tank. A tiny, lightweight tank that can't drive in the snow, but a tank nonetheless. My Malibu was a really great too. I bet you can't really go wrong with either choice.
The redesign is new, but they do it every five years and a couple of their cars have already been through the same redesign with no issue, so I'm not terribly worried about it, especially with a company that has a track record for dependability.

Its insane how it went from horrible fires to sudden enormous mudslides...
Yep, California. They are no longer allowed to clear dead trees and brush to help prevent the large fires. Then they have the fires because it is so dry and any spark can cause a fire. So the trees die, the roots no longer hold the earth well, they finally get a few inches of rain and then everything falls apart. The state is just a disaster waiting to happen. Hmm. I am being kind of harsh I guess.

California is so big that it has pretty much every climate available. I grew up in the Santa Cruz mountains and we had earthquakes and mud slides, but they weren't a big deal. If you relocate to the Tahoe area though, you don't really have earthquakes but you'll have snow. If you relocate to Sacramento you don't have earthquakes, snow, or mudslides, but you might have fires nearby. I think every place you go has something you have to deal with.

The Carolinas are amazing. I could see moving there in the future.
I happen to like the Carolinas too!;) California is gorgeous though. Love the Fresno area and Ventura before the fires.

It may come down to the Camry and the Malibu. Going to look at the Camry again on Saturday. It may come down to which one with all the features I like can I get for cheaper.

I do have to say though, if the service department is anything like the sales department at this Chevy dealership, I should have been taking my car for service at this dealership. Seriously, totally not pushy about the purchase, friendly, and the general manager even called to make sure I was satisfied. Ah, hindsight. Always 20:20.
I have test-driven both a couple of years ago before we found my Jeep. I loved the Malibu! If we hadn't wanted a 4x4 this vehicle, I would have bought a Malibu. I liked the Camry but everybody here has one. I didn't like driving it as much either. My vote goes to the Malibu.

I honestly do not trust Toyota when redesigning lol. Id wait until gen2 of the same redesign before buying.

Reminds me of the tons of recalls for problems they have had and found later on.
