Southern Winter.. The temperature is expected to get down to 19 degrees tonight with clear skies and no forecast of rain or snow. So... they have already called for a two hour delay in starting school tomorrow anticipating that they will have problems starting the buses. There is no end to the humor available to us yankees down here.
2 hour delay here as well this morning. I think they do it also for the kids who need to walk to school. This is one of the times my kids are grateful for being homeschooled, or is it?;) They never get school delays, early dismissal, or snow days. :D

Not necessarily...I don't know about where you are, but in Wyoming, vehicles have tank heaters installed and they plug them in at night. You forget to plug your car in at night, it's not likely to start in the morning during the winter. But, I know that they don't have those down south...I know this because there was a grad student in Wyoming who came from Arizona...he came to the University of Wyoming in the summer to study astronomy, where there were wide open spaces and little light pollution and we had a really awesome telescope for it. He ran all over the place with his camera, and I remember him running across the parking lot, taking pictures of the tank heater cords on all the cars because he said his friends back home didn't believe that people in Wyoming plug their cars in at night...they thought he was pulling their legs. So he took pictures to prove it. It never occurred to me that there were cars that DIDN'T have a plug, but apparently that's not a "thing" in the South.
I always thought only diesel's got plugged in.

This makes me sad. I hate taking down any Christmas references--whether a tree, a tabletop decoration, etc. Today I really have to take down the tree, though. Back to work tomorrow, :( and I need to get the place back in order. (At least it's just a 4 day week . . . )

I know what you mean, I am going to take the rest of the Christmas that is on the first floor down soon. I missed seeing my Nutcrackers out last night but there is something about getting the house back to normal too. Back to work for me tomorrow too.

I was supposed to take the Christmas decor down yesterday, but I just didn't feel like going to the basement to get the boxes. This is the first year I haven't had everything cleaned up before I went back to work. Oh well, there's always tonight :)

See, I can understand that maybe students to not have warm enough outerwear for temps that cold...buses well they are buses, there are not Southern and Northern Buses, likely your buses in your state were 'born' in the same place ours were and likely if they start up here they are more likely to start down there right?
True, but, there isn't a soul around here that doesn't have more cold weather gear then I ever even owned while I lived in Vermont (63 long cold years). So they are equipped to survive (if you can get them to stop wearing shorts. I don't know how cold it has to get for that to happen.) And yes, buses are buses and if maintained properly should easily start in this weather. The key is are they maintained properly, but, still an over reaction. However, you don't see many older buses around here. The state has a pretty impressive fleet... yes all state owned.

It's 3 degrees today. THREE. We're heading into the negative degrees this week, not including windchill. I normally like the winter, but having just come home from Orlando, I'm having a hard time with it this year :hilarious::hilarious:

Trip report writing took so much time! I've got 17 pages to catch up on here
Ugh. That's what it feels like here with windchills. Our lows aren't quite that low, though.

Whoever made Elsa mad should really go apologize.

We don’t plug our vehicles here. @Goofyernmost is in a state warmer than Illinois and that was my point. If the buses start in COLDER Illinois the should also start in the Carolinas. If he lived in Northern Minnesota it would have been a very different comparison. It was a Cold to a warmer cold comparison not a Cold to Severe Cold comparison Hope that helps.
