Continuing The Trip Report:

The Spanish Side...

Going around the Mining shaft as seen from my last post: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/the-chit-chat-chit-chat-thread.892190/page-6649#post-7971009

View attachment 246791

There is water everywhere as there are waterfalls and drops moving in. And these walls are pretty ancient.

All these parts used to be 100% covered and illuminated with oil lamps and before that... with spanish style candles

In these areas, Storage and transfer of the materials happened. There are a few tunnels that lead to enclosed rooms and then to the nearby river.

All these parts are supposedly haunted.

Multiple arches, storage areas and spaces to make the mining industry work.

The ancient spanish "chimneys" where the minerals were melted.
A lot of the walls and above the chimneys contains sacred writings to psychologically control the workers and slaves.
Most of them had ideals such as "Christ is watching you" and symbols. All to deter the thief and escape.

This area was indeed a torture to work for, they worked more than 12 hours in pitch darkness under candle and under the high temps the fires needed to melt the ore.

View attachment 246795

There was a small "molino" where people and animals smashed the ore in a rotating stone.

This area is also heavily haunted... The guide said a few times how in random photographers, you could see random apparitions.. including one behind our guide himself. Looking like a normal person of the date... sans eyes.

There are multiple rooms in this area, including another that appeared in the EL ZORRO movie.
There are also pools, very creepy ones. The guide told us that sometimes the bubbles that come out of the pool (which was used for torture and other things, had deadly chemicals) would randomly form full detailed faces in disfigured pain and horror.

Then a very small kinda hidden door (the whole place is sort of built like a labyrinth of hallways, some going back to the same place after a turn.
You would get to this water bridge ( moves water for the shafts)
The river is below. The entire thing is built on a ton of basaltic stones (see the lower left area, they are all horizontal) Giving the place huge stability.

There is also a VERY old tree in the courtyard infront of the hotel.

The church again.

Aaand thats all folks.. back to the entrance again of the administrative offices and hotel entrance.

Check later for part 6.
That looks beautiful, but spooky as all get out! Love it!

It seems that your relationship with your mother prepared you very well for dealing with your MIL. You were blessed with a lot of patience.
Yep, and I love my MIL a lot. I am very blessed with my in-laws. I know a lot of people can't stand their in-laws, so I feel very lucky to have a good relationship with mine. It was hard when we lived with them, but now that we have our own space, we get along really well. My DD and I love to do craft stuff with my MIL, like making cards...she's taught DD to sew a bit, and knit. I'm a lot more like my MIL than I was like my own mom, so we can do more together. My mom was really tall (5'10") and loved sports...she played basketball and volleyball when she was in high school. I have no athletic ability whatsoever. She did not like crafting and I do. We did have music in common..that was about it. I miss that, and I do miss my mom, but I'm lucky I still have a mother-figure in my life.

I'm trying to survive Tuesday. Don't you hate when you wake up at 2am because your body thinks it's 6am and you can't go back to sleep?:(:rolleyes:

I know the feeling I had to get up early for me to get my dh off to work.

The best part of that is when you finally fall back asleep...at 5.30am with your alarm set for 6am.

I'm wide awake at 3am at least 3-4 nights out of 7, then I do nothing but sleep for a day, then back to the same cycle...I've been trying to break it for months, but it's tricky when I'm up late doing course work, than have to get up at 6 to get the boys off to school...I'm hoping I'm finally able to break it after my last class ends on Jan. 15th.

I'm lucky with my MIL too, we don't have very much in common, but she's very good to us and I enjoy our visits.

We went to see Coco this morning and had both a parenting win and a parenting fail. We were running late this morning and missed the nine am showing, but then I had a stroke or parenting genius!! I remembered that the Frozen short was twenty one minutes and was probably still going. So instead of waiting a half hour for the ten am showing, we bought tickets to the nine am showing and got to our seats in time to catch the last song from the Frozen short. So the almost three year old got to see Elsa and Anna, we didn't have to sit through the short, and we caught the movie at the time we planned to catch it. Win!!

We all loved the movie!! It was really cute and really funny. Some parts of it were a little scary for my daughter but she was really into it.

When we got to the credits though, she asked me "where's Coco, mommy?! I didn't see him"

Uhhh,.. Coco is the Grandma...

No!! Coco is a raccoon. Where's Coco mommy?!? The raccoon?!?

Ooooooh :banghead::banghead::banghead:

My daughter calls Miko from Pocahontas "miko-coco" and thought we were talking her to see a movie all about that raccoon. Fail.
Oh no!!! How cute! That's absolutely adorable. Was she terribly disappointed?

The worst part is always leaving the pets. ;)

I somehow picked up a stomach bug, no idea how since I've been at home the past five days, and Belle has spent basically all day taking care of me. I even went to take a bath, and she couldn't find me and started meowing for me. I let her know where I was, and she settled down outside the bathroom door. :inlove:

I wish I had tomorrow off, but no such luck. It's the last week of our fiscal year, so fun stuff. But we do get the entire week between Christmas and New Years off, so there's that. :)
Are you sure it's a bug and not something you ate? Hope you are feeling better! Good thing you have Belle to take care of you!

I'm up by 3 5 or 6 days a week:joyfull:

What if you bribed her? Buy Princess clothes, Sweatshirts, Leggins, Tshirt tops. You have to wear 'appropriate' clothes to school. Take her to Kohls, JC Penny's, Sears, Walmart etc and let her pick out the Princess adorned clothing for 'school' and dress up dresses are for after school and for certain times on weekends, like not hiking but OK to grocery store. She might buy into being a big girl and picking out her own school clothes. Disney T's and Sweats are cheap enough just so you stay out of the specialty stores.

I've been told by basically all of my friends that their little girls went through this too and I need to just let it happen. I'm going to try to just let this one go.

She was terribly disappointed! But then we had lunch at a Mexican food restaurant (thanks to the idea from this thread) and she was so happy pointing out all the skeletons and the flags and everything. She really seemed to enjoy the movie, even though it wasn't about the raccoon!

I'm torn. Seems cruel to want him not to heal quickly but...but...but...I want you to have a restful fun Christmas Break. Not one where you are going to want to pull your hair out. Would it be in a hotel? The Hampton down by the WaterTower on the Mag Mile is awesome! Stayed there for New Years last year. So close to Garrett's and Ghirardelli (yum Hot Drinking Chocolate) or Giordano's, drool.

Hotel. Have them take the train downtown to meet up with ya.

We would be staying in a hotel if we go, a Hampton inn near their house. If we don't go I will miss going downtown into Chicago, that part is always fun.
