I was SOOOO excited to find GS cookies when I was home for dad's funeral. They were just setting up outside KMart when we came out. So I bought Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Samoas. And S'mores, but those were just for the kids as for me, I need the real thing, not a cookie composed of all the s'more elements. It's just not the same when it's not oozing freshly roasted marshmallows and melting chocolate. Half the appeal of s'mores is the gooey-ness. My kids had never had honest to goodness s'mores before since they don't have graham crackers here, nor hershey's, and the marshmallows aren't the same. So they wanted to try the s'mores cookies...whatever. BUT, I also bought REAL s'mores fixings to bring home and I have now properly educated them in the art of s'mores culinary delights.

Yep, nothin' but the real thing when it comes to s'mores...!!! :hungry:
Our DDs sold GS cookies for a combined decade. They didn't have a s'mores offering back then. Oh, the cookie booth momories...! ;)
Oldest DD once sold over 1500 boxes, youngest DD over 1200.
Payed for camp, and then some, every summer...! :)

Blah! Are you feeling like you are on the mend yet?
Starting to. I had some chicken and rice for dinner, which is a step up from chicken and rice soup. My friend was suggesting places for dinner tomorrow, and one of them was an African place. My heart said yes, my stomach said nope, not a chance. We ended up picking a local pub. If nothing else, my stomach can handle soup and a salad.

The real kicker to all of this was I was already on antibiotics for sinusitis and got this on top of the sinusitis. So I had to stop taking the antibiotics and am now feeling that coming back, so now that I'm on the mend, I went back on them.

And when I went in for the sinusitis, I had just been there the week before to get the migraine meds. They were like, "Weren't you just here?" Why yes, I was, thank you.

Ugh, can't wait for vacation next month.

Yep, can't wait for Christmas break! Although our break is short and if hubby can drive by then almost 4 days will be spent with the inlaws.

I'm torn. Seems cruel to want him not to heal quickly but...but...but...I want you to have a restful fun Christmas Break. Not one where you are going to want to pull your hair out. Would it be in a hotel? The Hampton down by the WaterTower on the Mag Mile is awesome! Stayed there for New Years last year. So close to Garrett's and Ghirardelli (yum Hot Drinking Chocolate) or Giordano's, drool.

I was just about to say it was probably New Glarus when I saw your other post. Even though I live in Wisconsin I have only visited the town once, it is about a 3 1/2 -4 hour drive away. It was a cute little town. A lot of buildings were in a Swiss chalet style. The big thing it is known for here in Wisconsin now is the brewery. It has really good beer and is not sold outside of Wisconsin at all. I'm sure @donaldtoo would be interested in the beer!

Me interested in beer...?!?!?! o_O

:D ;) :hungry: :)

I got the princess nightgowns (they look like princess dresses,.. they fancy) for about $10 at Kohls (on sale though so who knows what I'll pay when I try to replace them because they're ripped or whatever), so I guess that's not terribly bad. That's why I sent her to school in the nighttime dress and not the dress-up dress (which is around $30). But her normal dresses are $4 from H&M.

What if you bribed her? Buy Princess clothes, Sweatshirts, Leggins, Tshirt tops. You have to wear 'appropriate' clothes to school. Take her to Kohls, JC Penny's, Sears, Walmart etc and let her pick out the Princess adorned clothing for 'school' and dress up dresses are for after school and for certain times on weekends, like not hiking but OK to grocery store. She might buy into being a big girl and picking out her own school clothes. Disney T's and Sweats are cheap enough just so you stay out of the specialty stores.

Continuing The Trip Report:

The Spanish Side...

Going around the Mining shaft as seen from my last post: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/the-chit-chat-chit-chat-thread.892190/page-6649#post-7971009

View attachment 246791

There is water everywhere as there are waterfalls and drops moving in. And these walls are pretty ancient.

All these parts used to be 100% covered and illuminated with oil lamps and before that... with spanish style candles

View attachment 246792
In these areas, Storage and transfer of the materials happened. There are a few tunnels that lead to enclosed rooms and then to the nearby river.

All these parts are supposedly haunted.

View attachment 246793

Multiple arches, storage areas and spaces to make the mining industry work.

View attachment 246794
The ancient spanish "chimneys" where the minerals were melted.
A lot of the walls and above the chimneys contains sacred writings to psychologically control the workers and slaves.
Most of them had ideals such as "Christ is watching you" and symbols. All to deter the thief and escape.

This area was indeed a torture to work for, they worked more than 12 hours in pitch darkness under candle and under the high temps the fires needed to melt the ore.

View attachment 246795

There was a small "molino" where people and animals smashed the ore in a rotating stone.

View attachment 246796

This area is also heavily haunted... The guide said a few times how in random photographers, you could see random apparitions.. including one behind our guide himself. Looking like a normal person of the date... sans eyes.

There are multiple rooms in this area, including another that appeared in the EL ZORRO movie.
There are also pools, very creepy ones. The guide told us that sometimes the bubbles that come out of the pool (which was used for torture and other things, had deadly chemicals) would randomly form full detailed faces in disfigured pain and horror.

Then a very small kinda hidden door (the whole place is sort of built like a labyrinth of hallways, some going back to the same place after a turn.
You would get to this water bridge ( moves water for the shafts)
The river is below. The entire thing is built on a ton of basaltic stones (see the lower left area, they are all horizontal) Giving the place huge stability.

There is also a VERY old tree in the courtyard infront of the hotel.

The church again.

Aaand thats all folks.. back to the entrance again of the administrative offices and hotel entrance.

Check later for part 6.

Wow! Just Wow! It is beyond beautiful in its own right until you read the history of all that and it becomes overwhelmingly sad. History does repeat itself from land to land and that is an emotional journey. I'm on the edge with ghosts and haunting. I don't discount it, I've never experienced it so there is that.

What an interesting trip you and your family had. I'm going to have to learn your smiley face re-work of photos. Me and my family are no more comfortable than you guys are with posting our family images yet so many great photo's have us in them. It is a solution.

We as troops managed not to do any 'table' selling of Girl Scout Cookies or Boy Scout Popcorn. I tended to buy the minimum and donate the excess to the food pantry. Our sports team would let you sell or buy out for the profit margin. I bought it out. I was a business owner and our summer Swim Team Club went for sponsors over peddling food. I sponsored for many a year as I had kids in the club for over 15 years. We had many businesses of swimmers families step up so it wasn't overwhelming. I so preferred that type of donation over hitting on our locals or co-workers. I get it though I was so uncomfortable with all that to support my kids extracurricular activities. Some of these people I'd have to impose on never even had kids to balance the payback. We also here have a fund for children in need for sports and the arts. We have a community council that directs funds to families here in distress. My friend who passed from a long bout of cancer, her youngest was able to recieve eye glasses, join baseball and basketball along with specials at school where their were some fees to join. It is a small town kind of thing where we've got each others back, seems it was this way long before we moved here over 30 some years ago. As much as I hate that thing where everyone knows everything here sometimes there is a plus side to that.

That hot chocolate looks so very yum!:hungry::happy: We ordered Giordano's for our Thanksgiving for those who don't eat turkey. It wasn't the same as eating in the restaurant, but it was still good.:)

I love the Disney version too (and for cartoon versions, I really like the Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol as well.)

But I also love the (non-Disney) 1938 black and white movie version with Reginald Owen and June Lockhart. Can't decide whether I like that one or the other movie one with Alisdair Simms better. I think it's a tie.
That's why we own all of them:joyfull: Hint look on Dec. 26th for the best deal
