I did too. I had a science teacher in 7th grade who showed Bill Nye on a regular basis. He also would get extremely off topic. And of course no one ever tried to get him back on topic. And since I was in the gifted class and that was his only gifted class, it really didn't matter that he would get off topic. Learned so much from him, though.

9th grade science teacher was also awesome. He was a former genetics counselor and just really interesting to listen to. He's now a vice principal at the school where @brifraz used to teach. Science teacher was far too good a teacher to become an administrator.

Yep, right as I was reading a great teacher became a vice principal, that was my first thought, too...what a waste.
But, money talks.

Hmm, you like mornings and cold weather.

I guess we can still be friends. Even though I understand neither.

;)

I'm actually the only one in my house that doesn't mind mornings. :)
It's just that whole cold thing I don't get. I understand it to a point, living in a house full of "lizard people" ;), as I do. But, all cold weather and snow, all the time, I just don't get, at all... ;) :)

Glad you receive timely alerts; it's far better to be informed when at all possible. Aside of that, the best rule of thumb is to always try to be aware of your surroundings, whether in the big, bad city or in a tiny hamlet. Crime can happen anywhere, anytime. (You're intelligent and obviously know all that; I'm just sharing a reminder only, because we all need to be reminded once in a while.) :)

We had some neighbors, that were here when we moved in, across the street we really liked that moved a few years back. They were both US Army Vietnam War vets - she a nurse, he a foot soldier. They used to say "It's not paranoia, it's 'heightened awareness'"
They were so cool. We still miss them.

If it makes you feel any better it was only 9 here this morning.

Yes and it makes me have pitty on you guys. While I hate it and we are in for more, you guys are not suppose to get 9 anymore than we are to get 106. These last couple of winters are sucidoodles all the way around except maybe for those few down there in oil country. :cautious::mad:;)

A quick story about my day...I'm a science teacher and my 9th graders are learning about Newton's Laws of Motion and today I showed them a video. It was a video put out by Disney featuring different rides in the theme parks. It was a great to see the parks and my students enjoyed it too. I had a few that had been to some of the parks and a few of them were like that looks really cool!
Did you show them the one with Imagineer Asa? Our library has the entire set so we've seen them all. Asa is so funny it makes learning fun.

Some school counties are oprning late tomorrow and are closed because of the cold.

Yeah. We're kind of whimpy

Our schools were open, half the county closed, difficult call...we have more cold coming again next school week. We try to either call off school or leave everything as is, late arrivals mess with daycare and parents jobs, parents they love to yell at us, especially when they come to board meeting and one by one say the same thing over and over and wonder why we stop responding. :bored:

Been discussing the cold delays and closings with many colleagues and also responding to people on FB. In the county where I spent the last 20 years, while they may have said they closed or opened late because of starting busses, getting heat on in schools, or so kids weren't at the bus stop before dawn in the cold, but the truth is this...in that district (and many, I fear) the administrators are so colossally afraid of lawsuits that they have an actual office of people who sit and think of things that they could get sued for. Sadly, our litigious society has many people who will gladly sue a school system because their child got sick the day after standing at the bus stop in very cold temperatures. Thus, late openings. Funny thing is, most of the people who complain about the schools closing for small amounts of snow or cold (the "in my day" people who will gladly tell you they went to school in far colder temperatures than this morning even though this morning was the coldest in this area in 20 years) are the exact same people who will complain and possibly sue when their precious little angel caught cold the day after....OK, you get the idea.

BTW, that's the "Office of Risk Management" who also came up with rules whereby no school group in that district can go to an amusement park for any reason (education or not).

And, hey! Long time, no see! Glad to be here for a quick visit tonight!!
