When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Never heard of that. I thought that was bloody. S*** means what two people in love do.
S-hag equals F-word - the verb. (Not as in, F-off.)

My mom was raised in England. My whole life f-anny meant a woman's front side. Imagine my surprise when a jean store opened up called "F-anny's", referring of course, to a woman's back side.

Difference between small, private school and larger state school:

At small private school, we once had a shooting scare. That is the only instance of crime on campus, and that was more that a student was being stupid with a BB rifle. If incidents happen, students are unaware.

At large state school, today I've gotten three texts from the campus police about suspicious persons on campus. Last week, I got a text that there was an armed robbery near campus, so be careful. I'm remembering why I did not take that free ride to the state school...

Bbbbbrrrrr! -17 here! I hope everyone is doing ok this morning!

I think tomorrow morning, my area is supposed to be down to about -6, with a wind chill of about -25. That's what they're telling us tonight, anyway. Oh joy--I get to wait at a snowed-in bus stop around 6:30 AM in that; pray that the bus shows up!!

By the way, how are the horses? Do you kick up the heat in the barn on nights like this?

Sympathy like.

High of 14 here today. Currently feels like -3. Low of -6.

I am so done with winter.

High of 80 in Honolulu today. Let's all go to Hawaii. Who's with me?

Or we could go to Disneyland. High of 76 there and sunny. Anyone?

You're sweet to extend the invitation to us all to join you, and I appreciate that. However, even with all the snow and sub-zero temps, I think I'm just a cold weather gal at heart and always will be! (At least as long as I can move in it--I just don't like standing still in it, waiting for buses. Other than that, winter is great! :D)

The Thames Valley Police UK purchased Brian the Horse to be part of their Mounted force. Officers did not like the name Brian and wanted him to be named something more warrior like Odin or Hercules-then all the Brian's of the World took offense, debate over changing Brian's name continued for weeks.

But what seemed to be a more critical factor that Brian's name....Brian the horse was afraid of urban life to be on the Police Force.

‘You can see the change in him when he walks out the gates of the police station, which endangers him, the officer on board and the public around his feet.

‘Brian was a lovely horse and it is a shame to have to hand him back, but for his own welfare it is for the best and he is going back to a lovely home.’

and so Brian, still Brian is happily back home again today.

Ha! I love this story! (I'm just sorry that Brian had to be put through scary changes for him, before people finally just let Brian be Brian . . . in more ways than one . . . ;))

Horses are good. It's been cold, but the winds have been light, so they are outside. There is a shelter they can run into if they want to. There is no heat in the barn, just heat tracing on the water pipes. The milk house is heated, so the dogs hang out in there. I've got old carpet padding in the barn for the barn cats to huddle up in to stay warm. I know it's been warmer this winter compared to last year, but I think the lousy summer didn't give us enough mental relief to be able to face this one. I hope it starts warming up soon...

My second pair came from REI

I like walking on packed new snow. Nice on feet.

Yes, of course, REI. :) I was trying to remember the name of that place (we have a few in MA as well). They're similar to Eastern Mountain Sports, but I think I like REI better (I've done some online ordering from their web site in the past, too). Oh, I also love walking on packed snow--wish it would stay that way instead of always turning into ice.
