When I walk on ice with Walt I wear Yak Trax under my shoes or boots. They slide right on and you don't feel them when walking however they grip to the ice. A friend of ours works for the Power company and gave me a pair, they run about $40 All the utility people wear them during icy times around here.

Been wearing Yaks for years. (I always tell people to remember to take them off once they go indoors, because they have the opposite effect on a tile or linoleum floor--you can fall!) Because our temps have been so cold, I haven't even needed to use them yet because everything is packed snow, so plenty of traction on my regular boots, However, once the melting starts and things get more icy, then I'll be wearing them.

I've bought them in places like L L Bean, Eastern Mountain Sports, and various other places. They're also sold online through various retailers (L L Bean is one).

I might have to look into these. For some reason I have a fear of falling (maybe because I'm a klutz), and I always walk super slow on snow and ice.

The only time (outside) you need to be careful with these, is if you have very flat ice (with no bumps at all or any snow). If the ice is like a flat sheet of glass, there is no traction. Sometimes that can happen if you have freezing rain, and the ground was clear prior to that. Now you have a skating rink of flat glass and nothing will give you traction in that.

And other states besides IL are nutty. Virginia has move a proposed new law through the Senate to again legalize
Brass Knuckles, Throwing Stars and other such weapons again which were banned from sale to curb gangs.

One elected official that had voted no said there isn't an age limit, saying " A 16-year-old, a 12-year-old, a 7-year-old could go to wherever they’re going to allow these weapons to be purchased and take their allowance and buy a number of throwing stars,” While a yes voter countered the weapons being available to children with "it will still be illegal for children to bring the weapons onto school grounds." :banghead:

Now the governor has not indicated if he wants to sign the new bill. I can only imagine what police departments around Virginia are thinking of their lawmakers. :in pain:

The Thames Valley Police UK purchased Brian the Horse to be part of their Mounted force. Officers did not like the name Brian and wanted him to be named something more warrior like Odin or Hercules-then all the Brian's of the World took offense, debate over changing Brian's name continued for weeks.

But what seemed to be a more critical factor that Brian's name....Brian the horse was afraid of urban life to be on the Police Force.

‘You can see the change in him when he walks out the gates of the police station, which endangers him, the officer on board and the public around his feet.

‘Brian was a lovely horse and it is a shame to have to hand him back, but for his own welfare it is for the best and he is going back to a lovely home.’

and so Brian, still Brian is happily back home again today.

I'm not a runner so maybe that is why I am not impressed with the design of the magic band. o_O

Not impressed with much this year, too busy for my eyes to land on anything on shirt or glassware.

My second pair came from REI

I like walking on packed new snow. Nice on feet.
