The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

You know what's funny?
So I was in San Antonio all last week. We all went down there to visit my parents as well as a lot of friends and even got to go out for Valentines dinner for the first time in forever. Even went up to Austin one day to visit some other friends, forgetting the Austin Marathon was going on. That is the one of the only things I do not miss about Austin. There is an event every weekend which closes down streets and makes horrible traffic as it is turn into a impenetrable nightmare.

And if you slip and fall backward try to remember if possible to tuck you chin to you chest to protect your skull.

My FIL slipped on ice and bled badly in the brain. The neurosurgeon before they took him in for surgery about midnight said it wasn't good, likely he would not make it given his age, 77 or if he did chances are he'd be completely paralyzed. My DH was still asleep and I woke up and called the nurses station basically to see if he was still with us and she informed me he woke up a few hours ago and requested a cheeseburger and was sitting up eating it. :cyclops:
I woke my DH briefly to tell him...

Over the next week I discovered he was totally without memory and didn't know who we were. I talked to the doctor and he said sure he does, he called me by name. I explained my MIL was helping him telling FIL who everyone was as she saw them coming so nobody would find out his memory was gone. His memory came back but has no recollection of being in the hospital. He lived another 10 years and walked with a cane because one leg didn't totally come back.

I hate ice too!
Thanks, I feel much better about ice now! :in pain::coldfeet:

With reference to your comment about about the correlation to a 1 year old, versus 100, I wonder if they make double runners for adults, too? o_O :D They make them for little kids, and it would almost be like full circle in later years, if they marketed them to seniors. :joyfull:  Then people wouldn't have to worry nearly as much about falling down, due to the extra balance points on the double blades per boot. :)

When I walk on ice with Walt I wear Yak Trax under my shoes or boots. They slide right on and you don't feel them when walking however they grip to the ice. A friend of ours works for the Power company and gave me a pair, they run about $40 All the utility people wear them during icy times around here.

Years ago when I was taking figure skating lessons, I remember the instructor telling me that if you never fall, you're never going to advance to a higher level. People who try new things will fall, but eventually they master the new skill.

I fell plenty of times when I was learning a new jump; jumps never came easily to me, even though I was only doing the less difficult ones. I was always a far better spinner! :) (My father used to say that I was a dizzy dame, so that may have been some insight on his part . . . :p)
See, the problem with me is that I seem to have an inability to fall gracefully.

I just kind of go SPLAT and have no control over what happened. Before I know it, I'm just flat on the ground. And in pain.

I've fallen a few times on my knees. But I'm the only one in my class who has wiped out completely.

Also worth noting, I am the only person in the class who insists on wearing a helmet. And with good reason apparently.

Err...a little sha ggy-looking for my taste.

Besides, guys just interfere with my plan of becoming the crazy cat lady.

EDIT: Seriously, I can't say sha ggy? So no Sha ggy and Scooby?

****gy. Yup, censored out.

Well go figure. I am trying to figure out what is what with that word. Lost.

And Teach likely knows how hard you are trying.

I might have to look into these. For some reason I have a fear of falling (maybe because I'm a klutz), and I always walk super slow on snow and ice.

I think that she's just happy that I'm working with the main group.

There are 8 of us in the class (the guy who nearly ran into me is not technically in the class; he and another guy are grad students who work in the athletic department and occasionally join us). We have a coach and a graduate assistant. Another girl and I have been the slowest learners in the class so far, so usually, the main group works with one of them and then a smaller group works at a slower pace with the other. Before, it was me and the other girl working more slowly in the second group, but I've been able to work more with the main group recently. Monday I broke off and worked with the other girl and the graduate assistant on crossovers, in part because I needed help learning crossovers, but partially because I wasn't feeling very well and needed a slower pace. Today, I was back with the main group.

The other girl needs a lot of help and has been working with either coach or the graduate assistant every class. She's been unable to join the main group at all. They did say that the class is paced much faster than usual because this group has a lot of natural ability, so I'm actually pretty average. They said that they have at least one student each time they have the class that needs extra help, so she's not the first and won't be the last either. They had her pushing cones at one point just so she could learn the stride. It makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one who has to work at it, and she says that I've made such progress that I inspire her to keep going. It is all about effort.

Other than the falling part you have to be pretty proud of yourself. I'm impressed!
