I can see that sometimes they have to go slightly overboard to prevent major problems. I don't really know the type of clothing you're talking about, and I surely to do not think your daughter is flaunting anything, however, the thing that I found the hardest to do is remember what pubescent boys and girls are affected by with the hormone changes that they are going through. Puberty isn't an automatic kick into self control and good judgement when it comes to natural instincts.

And this is where I think we have gone wrong for decades. And you didn't say this but I've heard it as an excuse to go overboard.
It is the female students that are targeted both corporately and in schools by dress codes. We even had an era while I was just entering the business world that women needed to dress in suits like men, had to wear pump shoes, (ouch) heel size, wear hose on legs. HR has removed most of these restrictions and this is what the schools are moving onto. Too often I've heard the girls clothing is distracting to young male students. I actually think it is best to instill good judgement and self control from young. No you can't comment on a bra strap, no you can't lift a skirt cause it is shorter. We watch the adults of the world, Uber immediately comes to mind. Sometimes I think if behaviors were demanded to be appropriate from early on in life many would grow up knowing how to control their natural instincts.

I wasn't addressing my comments about just females. In fact I wasn't even thinking about that. I was speaking in general terms. Females have sex drives too, they tell me. It is a two way street and the biology of it is that there are many females that dress to get the attention of males and just as many males attempting to draw attention to themselves. This has been going on for centuries and is a built in system designed to keep populations growing. But, we did as parents exercise our power and control that situation at least until they left the nest. We weren't always successful, but, we made the effort. Schools helped us by backing up what we already knew with certain societal dress codes that did both. No one is blaming females for being to tempting, the males are the ones that are being attracted and not able to keep in control of themselves. It's a two way street and always has been.

I do all of a sudden wonder if I am, once again not following. Are we arguing for less dress codes or more dress codes from the schools. I'm lost. If it's less... what is wrong with being civilized. Kids have their whole lives to express themselves, in dress and action. It doesn't have to be before they have achieved some degree of maturity in their judgment.

If that is true why are school handbooks heavy on regulating a females shirts and not boys. Who makes a 3 finger rule for just girls? How often is a boys neckline questioned? What makes a boys shoulder ok and not a girls? Your right this started long ago. Girls were by law made to wear dresses to public school. That is why the specific language is being omitted and replaced to cover certain areas of all genders body covered and if it is so be it. I never saw a male be told to button up his polo. Or he was round in tummy so his shirt came up when he lifted his arms.

I had a boy and a girl. So little in the handbooks or policy when to specific articles of clothing for boys. Girls a laundry list. I'm happy to see all student expectations being the same.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Do boys wear skirts in your area and therefore are not directly regulated to a length? Do boys have that require covering? What are they allowed to wear that females are not? If a male was dressing in a way that exposed his genitalia whenever he bent over or sat down or crossed his legs, would the school just look the other way or might the same rules apply?:jawdrop: Are public schools now requiring females to wear skirts? The only thing a boy would cover up by buttoning his polo would be that lonely little chest hair that he is desperately trying to get to grow so the female world can say Eww, you have to shave that off, it's gross.:in pain: Are girls currently allowed to wear their pants pulled up to cover their underwear and boys aren't. Whale tails came from somewhere!

Not to change the daily subjects here, but does anyone have any fun plans for the long Labor Day weekend? We'll do at least one cookout--a steak, and Jack gets the bone, which he loves! (Jack loves summer for all the steak bones he gets. :joyfull: ) We'll hang out, do the usual errands, etc. Plan to get in some walking the woods and some bike riding, too. :)

We will go to my sister's one of the days. Hubs plans to smoke a brisket another day. I might go to the farmer's market but otherwise, just relaxing is my plan. I have some books I'd like to read.

The Minnesota Science Museum currently has the Science of Pixar display and it end on the 7th. We both want to see it but we don't know if it will be worth it for our time. The admission price is $28.95 per person so that is not so attractive either.

It sounds like you have a nice weekend planned. I hope Jack enjoys his bone.

Exactly. You have singled out items of clothing for female student exactly what new policy will forbid. Boys chests will be required covering too on school property and yes excises can be made for what boys want girls to know they have sprouted but it's ok cause why again?

OK, now I'm really lost are you for or against dress codes? All dress codes or just ones that make things unisex or don't make things unisex? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just not sure what people are posting about anymore. Blame it on oldtimers disease. Very confused.

I never cared if girls knew I had chest hair, I was just trying to go from boy to man. What others thought didn't become a problem until much later in the process. I am also not the one that made a sexual trigger. They are actually to feed babies with, I thought. Society and the need to hide the cookies, so to speak, is what made them objects of desire.

Brisket? Did you say smoked brisket?! :hungry: :hungry: (Actually, Jack would also love some smoked brisket! :joyfull: )

Maybe I'll try the farmer's market--they finally removed the barriers to the parking lot, so people can actually drive there now . . . I'm really hoping they have some good stuff, as the growing season was slow here. I mean, heck, it's freaking September, and I haven't hit any farmer's markets. And it's not even that I love veggies, but once in a while, it's really nice to get some in-season, local tomatoes, etc.

The Pixar display sounds like fun, but that is close to $60 for the two of you. But if you really want to go, it's worth it. :)

I would like some more fresh tomatoes as well. The farm market has some good bread guys and a doggy baker on Saturdays. So I would like to get some bread for us and some good treats for Kapono.

I think hubs is still planning on the brisket, he hasn't taken it out of the freezer yet. Maybe I will make some mac and cheese (home made, not box) to go with it.

Please tell him to take it out of the freezer now, and put it in the regular refrigerator to thaw properly for a few days until he can smoke it. How can I possibly have my (vicarious) delicious, brisket dinner if he forgets to take it out of the freezer in time for my holiday feast??!! Tell him I'm counting on him! :joyfull:

Definitely temp him with the mac and cheese bait . . . ;)

He mentioned taking it out on Wednesday, when he gets home I will ask him about it. I will tell him that people are counting on him!

I am for an even field for dress codes in both the work place and in schools. Now add in recognizing we have transgender students and staff...how do you deal with a female body identifying as a male or a male body identifying as a female? All the more reason to make the policy unilaterally the same. How else would one craft new policy? Still being a conservative person and raised conservative kids to adulthood...I know this is going to open Pandora box. My mind leaped to Prom, HomeComing and sporting events. A handful of students are going to have a lot fun seeing how far they can push this...going to be interesting.

I'm resigned to the fact that it has to equal. Today I think it is chest to mid thigh and call it a night. Done. Schools only have so much funding to fight all this in court and I don't even know what they are fighting for. As a district vs equal rights we are obviously going to loose in court. Me, it is my fiduciary responsibility to be a good steward of taxpayer funds, educate young people and support the well being of our staff.

Last night I made grilled cheese with with creamy garlic spread and diced garden tomatoes. Tonight it was BLT with garden tomatoes. Lunch it was a tomato sandwich.

Have I mentioned how much I love tomatoes?
