Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR

Ha! I read a couple dozen. Kudos to whoever started this. Wonder how long before the comments get shut down?

N. IL are up to 11 cases in Illinois 10 of which are from the DayCare outbreak. They were hoping the natural immunity from the Mothers would thwart in this kids that are too young to be vaccinated. Bad news is an infectious person wrong either a train or a bus for 3 days and attended a local community college in that area. Now we will see how many adults were vaccinated. Hopefully them all.

She was at lunch with my dad and didn't hear her phone.

She said she used to put the phone on the table when I was in high school in case she got any calls from me. But she didn't do that today.

I sometimes get annoyed with her because she doesn't answer her cell phone. She goes next door for whatever reason and doesn't put the phone in her pocket. She goes outside to do yard work and doesn't put the phone in her pocket. She doesn't bother to periodically check it to make sure that no one's texted her, so sometimes it takes her days to answer a text. But then she gets annoyed with me when I don't immediately answer a text or if I don't hear my phone. When we were in Disney and I didn't hear my phone but checked it and called her back within 5 minutes, she complained about how worried she was. I told her that since she doesn't answer her phone a lot that she had no room to lecture me about not hearing one phone call in a noisy environment, especially since I thought to check my phone in case she had called. Heck, I check my phone for texts from her periodically throughout the day. She wanted to continue, but my dad backed me up on that one. I love my mom, but sometimes she's unreachable, and that's a real issue. My dad is easier to contact in an emergency, which is sad because he hates cell phones. But my dad doesn't know asthma. I need my mom when I'm in trouble because Dad doesn't have a clue. I also try not to bother my dad at work unless absolutely necessary, like when I had a problem with my car on the way to school one time last year and couldn't get hold of Mom. He had a client with him and ended up stepping aside to deal with me that time. Good daddy, and the client understood. He's not well versed in asthma, though.

I should have called my aunt today. She had to deal with my great grandmother's asthma (my family is the history of asthma FYI) so she's well versed in asthma, and she probably would have answered her phone and been down there right away. But I didn't think about it until I was breathing again. Asthma makes me not think clearly. I call it asthma brain. Even when it's not horrible, I make dumb little mistakes that I wouldn't normally make.

I bet she felt bad when she finally found out you were in the hospital. :(

It's hysterical. Amazon has been letting this go on for some time. They have to know about it. Maybe they just figure that when people are done posting their sarcastic reviews, they can suggest other books and people might buy them. It brings traffic into the site, so they might just let it be. Wouldn't be surprised if they get enough complaints that they stop selling the books.

Sometimes I don't understand the logic behind anti-vaxers. I understand it under certain circumstances. I have a medical exemption from school vaccinations because I did go into anaphyaxis after one, so I only get the flu vaccine. It's a big production otherwise, so my doctors decided to just have me get an exemption and not run the risk. My cousin and his fiance decided not to vaccinate the baby because he's got the family history of allergies, kid is already allergic to latex, and he reacted badly to the HepB vaccine. They're not anti-vaccination; the girls are vaccinated, but she had a bad feeling about vaccinating the baby, especially after the doctor's office wanted to give him 7 vaccines (he's not even three months old) and she put her foot down. So they're holding off for now.

But just to not vaccinate your kids because of a minute possibility of something happening...I don't understand it. The ones who say that vaccines cause autism I'm rather insulted by. First of all, there's no merit to that whatsoever. And second, even if it were true, you would rather have your child die from complications from a disease that they might have been vaccinated for than live with autism? Is autism so undesirable that you would rather have your child die or suffer other complications? My brother has autism, but he's here, and that's what's important. They make it sound like it would be so horrible. It's not ideal, and I certainly would rather that he didn't have autism, but I kind of find it insulting.

I think it would be a teachable moment for her about the phone, though. I'm sure she loved getting the call from my school's security office.

She said I handled myself well before she got there. Yeah, I was a blubbering mess trying not to cry or freak out. Felt much better when I had talked to her and knew she was coming.

You are very prepared. I am impressed but so sorry you have to deal with this. To make you laugh I will share this story: once I was called to the ER to give a neb and I walked into the patients room where the doctor was standing in front of the patient actuating an albuterol mdi into the air. I asked what he was doing and he said he was creating a "cloud of albuterol."

Hahaaa...!
That's one I've never heard before! :)

Seems like forever since we've had to give premie DS his nebs. I remember those little, plastic albuterol ampules.
Nobody seemed to be able to tell, for sure, if it would be an ongoing issue for the rest of his life, or not.
Thankfully, he hasn't needed any kind of treatments for breathing issues, not even a puffer, since early-mid elementary school.

If I don't want to cook, dinner usually turns out to be pizza.

Tonight I didn't want to cook but I had some tenderized pork in the fridge that needed to be cooked or tossed. So I cut it up fried it with some onions when it was almost done I added 3 tablespoons soy sauce, and 2 tablespoons of both balsamic vinegar and siracha sauce and tossed that with some noodles. It was really good, it had some spicy kick to it though. And it was really easy. It might be a new go to meal for me. I saw the recipe in this months good housekeeping magazine. It didn't call for onions but I like them it stuff, and the recipe called for baby spinach but I didn't have any and didn't want to go to the store.

Wow! That does sound darn tasty. :hungry:
We'll hafta' try that, soon...! :)

Guys always want something more substantial for dinner, because they're guys! :p During the week, I just like lighter fare. Hubby will sometimes cook a bigger meal for himself. (I also have dinner at noon each day, in the cafeteria at the hospital where I work. So when I come home at night, I only eat light.) Weekends are the only time I actually cook full meals.

Warning: group work complaining ahead. Read at your own risk:

You've been warned.

Group member: But writing in the passive voice is a good style!
Me: o_O It's good if you're writing a scientific paper or if you use it every once in a while for emphasis or some other purpose. But not every other sentence.
Group member: But my other professors have told me they like my writing style.

Mmmhmm, If that's true (which it isn't) I'm sure the professor who taught the mandatory business writing class was not one of them.

Me: I don't really care what your other professors have said. This professor already pointed out wordiness, which is what the passive voice does, Business Writing covered the passive voice, and this is a 300 level course, and it's time to stop writing like that.

It's going to be a very LONG semester. Regardless, I turn everything for our group in, so if I spend the whole semester fixing it, I spend the whole semester fixing it.
I hoping you will be done soon with these group assignments.

I keep French bread pizza (the Stouffer's kind) in the freezer when I'm feeling particularly lazy. It's pretty good, much better than regular frozen pizza IMO, definitely better than pizza you get at QS WDW locations, and it doesn't take long in the oven. I just add a little extra cheese to it.

My mom keeps chopped chicken in the freezer. It+lettuce+croutons+Parmesan cheese+caesar dressing=chicken Ceasar salad. Or chicken+lettuce+salsa+sour cream+cheese=Mexican salad. You could probably do the same thing with Tofu if you wanted. Or beans. I sometimes take the container of chicken, heat it up at school, and bingo, I've got lunch.

I remember when the QS pizzas were fairly good at WDW when my kids were young. We could order a large pizza when we got back to the resorts after the parks closed and fill our tummies. I posted this a few months ago and it explains why all the QS pizza stinks minus that little window outside Via Napoli which is their own.

I've never been a big fan of Disney Worlds Quick Service Pizza. What I learned from Twitter today.

Inside the Magic Photo

At the IAAPA convention, the largest international trade association for amusement parks.
Pizza Company headquarter in Chicago.

They also had Beaver Tails!!! So they might be gone from Canada's Pavilion but they are still out there.

I wonder why Disney stopped selling these as they are still available?
