I had a chat with the school resource manager (I think that's basically what she is...she arranges for testing and extra help if a kid has special needs) this morning. DS wet the bed last night, which he's never done before, so I think he's not handling the changes very well...thank the Lord for small miracles, he starts therapy this afternoon. But, while we were talking, I asked about the playground and the bike parking, etc...I was right about where the bike parking is supposed to go, but she didn't say WHEN. But I was wrong about where the playground will be. This is where it will be...HOW they are going to fit in a whole playground area, I don't know....and it's RIGHT by the busy street. Sure, they have a fence, but how many soccer balls are going to end up in the street and kids climbing over the fence running after them...yikes. Even the Resource manager didn't seem happy about it. And the bike parking is across the bike path from the school...so kids come in, park their bikes, and then have to get across the bike path where all the other people are coming in. And it's just barely past the street, so you cross the street and need to get clear of it, but will have to stop for the kids needing to cross (there will be a crossing guard). With the number of bikes coming through there, they won't be able to just stop without blocking the street crossing. It's going to really back up traffic.
And here's the side path with the door the upper grades go in, which, they have already figured out doesn't flow, so they are going to make the 6th graders enter and exit at the community center entrance and use the other stairs because they can't get that many kids in and out in a timely manner and they hope moving the 6th graders to a different entrance will make the rest flow more easily. In the first picture, you can see the teachers standing there at the door, and my 6th grade DD and her friends walking up because apparently they didn't tell the 6th graders they would be going in the other door, and they are supposed to line up with their teacher and they couldn't FIND their teacher. In the 2nd you can see the gate at the end of the path that they have to go through to get to the front of the building.

I think if I could convince even one of the boys and by that I mean immediate family not James and his bff I would seriously think about seeing it. I have a friend who's house I could stay at for the night so no parking just the cost of the Path to get into the city and we'd eat at said friend's place. We'd just get there early and I'd cook dinner for all of us.Quick! Somebody call 911 -- @StarWarsGirl is having a mental breakdown!!

Really?? Last summer I remember all the craft stores had their Christmas stuff out and the gal said people start their Christmas crafting in March!!and yet Joann's didn't have all their fleece out yet. This is prime season for crafters making Christmas gifts.

4th of July is when ours get going for Christmas specific but the fall fabrics hit later in the month or early August most years. This year they're late for some reason.

I know!! I was thinking that and wondering what his take on the design would be...is it just me, or is it really insanely inconvenient? It's small and cramped, it's not logical at ALL...especially when they have the bike parking done and have to cross the bike path right where all the bikes are JUST crossing the street and need to get clear of the street so the traffic can go...it's like they didn't think about ANY of that when they designed it. Just decided...well...there MIGHT be enough space here to squeeze in a bike parking area. Sure...that will work. I wonder what playground equipment they are even putting in. Supposedly it's been ordered. But where they've built, there is no room for expansion in any direction. The school/community center is attached to the rec center on one side, with the parking lot in front and then a street. On the other side is a busy street and the school is built right along that street with apartments on the other side, so they couldn't go that way if they needed more space. And on the non-rec center side is another building, behind which they are building a basketball court. I'm wondering if they will put pressure on that daycare or whatever it is to close so they have that space for expanding, or for an actual playground. The resource gal was explaining to me where everything was planned to go and she was like "I don't get it...it's not logical, but this is supposed to go here, and then they want to put that there, but yeah, I don't know how that will work." And the worst thing is that these things were all brought up BEFORE they built...the parents asked all these questions and voiced the concerns about the lack of space and how unsafe it is with the busy street, but they ignored everyone because they were determined to merge these 2 schools and build a new building in this spot, so apparently they didn't really care WHAT the problems were, they were never going to listen to what the parents actually wanted. It's so poorly done. The space they have for the playground is about 1/10 the size they had at the old school, and the old school also had a separate playground for the kindergartners that was was 5 times bigger than what they have now. And because it was in the middle of the neighborhood, there were no busy streets around it or anything. There was space to play soccer, basketball, etc...it was really nice!
