Good morning! Thanks and big hugs all around for all the messages you guys left us. (Having difficulty posting anything today on this site. It keeps disappearing. lol So group message for you guys.)
We are doing well. Each day is getting somewhat better. But certain memories keep coming back when we do something Chloe reacted to. But, that is good--I think it is helping us heal. We will probably get another cat in the future, but we don't know when that will be. For now, we have 3 baby bunnies that have suddenly appeared in the backyard. They are providing some comfort to both of us watching them each day.
I cannot tell you how special it was to get on here this morning and see all the sweet messages you left for us. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!! xoxo

Interesting....so it's kind of like a drill team? We didn't have that at our school. Just cheerleading. I was a fantastic bench warmer for basketball in Junior high and I did cheerleading, too, but when I got to Freshman year, I dropped basketball because I never got to play. It was a waste of time. So I switched to speech and debate. I still did cheerleading that one year, but then it got really catty on the squad. We had only had 4 girls on the squad and one graduated, one moved, and the one that was left was a social climber and speech and debate sometimes conflicted with basketball games. I hated football cheerleading because the coach was a witch. It was below zero and she didn't want to let us wear our coats...parents had to complain. She would have just let us all get frostbite because "We were representatives of the school and have to look nice. Winter coats don't look nice. You know when you sign up for football cheerleading that it will be cold sometimes." Yes...and every year before, they had had a different coach who let the girls wear lettermans jackets in the school colors. And we got home from an away game one time at 2:00 am and a couple of the girls made a MESS in the Suburban...we weren't allowed to ride the bus with the football team because we "distracted the boys" so we had to take a suburban. So the coach told us we had to clean up the suburban or we wouldn't be going on any more trips. So I started cleaning up, and the 2 girls who MADE the mess ran off to go inside and call their parents for rides and left me and another girl cleaning up. I was the last one there and the coach wouldn't let me go inside to call my mom for a ride because I "Should have done that earlier." She was going to make me walk home at 2:00 am. Fortunately, our pastor's wife was in the parking lot waiting for her son...the bus was an hour behind us because they got to stop for food. So she saw me and asked me what I was doing by myself at 2am. She gave me a ride home and then my mom went in the next day and yelled at the coach because the school rules said she HAD to make sure everyone got home safely...she had already left by the time the pastor's wife saw me. School policy was that she was responsible for me until a parent or guardian arrived. She tried to tell my mom that I was dinking around. My mom said "Well, she said she was cleaning up the suburban" and the coach said "Well, yes, she was, but she should have been faster." My mom was SOOO angry. She almost made me quit. So I didn't do football cheerleading the next year, and since the basketball cheerleading squad completely changed and conflicted with Speech, I dropped it and focused on Speech and debate instead. I was better at that anyway. I'm not athletically inclined at all.
Cheerleading now has more injuries than any other hs sport, I'm told, and is incredibly athletic. The way those girls "fly" scares me. Poms is more like a dance team with pom poms. Cheerleaders don't have poms.

I told James he could do 2 activities never thinking he'd go with band. So far they have DC and Boston in their futures:joyfull:
My band went to Boston when I was in high school! I had so much fun over there
Of course, there were a lot of set backs and technical difficulties getting there (and getting home, whoo boy), but that didn't detract from the experience.

Glad you had a great trip. Welcome back! How's your grandma doing? I bet your dog was so happy to see you!

Thank you! My grandma is physically doing better. She's in a nursing home recovering and doing rehab. I bought a stained glass piece in Alaska for her, and it's hanging up in her room now. However, her eyesight isn't great, so she couldn't see the pictures I took, but she did enjoy all of my stories. I need to download all of the pictures to the computer for her to look at, and probably bring a magnifying glass. Emotionally, Grandma's okay. She doesn't like being in the nursing home. My grandpa, her husband, spent the last 5 years of his life there, and she knows how lonely it can be. There seems to be at least one resident there who is trying to get her to be more active with other people though, so that's a plus.

Another plus- she didn't trip over my dog (which was a huge fear of mine). She fell getting out of bed, but luckily, she had her lifeline necklace on.

I was so exhausted on Saturday, that when I got home, I almost immediately started crying when I was holding my dog. She was a good pupper though and licked away tears. Poor thing has also had a bit of a rough time. She's 14, and is losing a lot of control over her body. My parents thought it would be best to move her downstairs onto a non-carpeted area, so she's had to get used to that, plus not being at my grandma's for 'doggy daycare' for 5 days a week. :( One of my friends who works near my house is taking care of her during the day now, so at least she'll have a new routine.

I love your plates and placemats!!! I know that might be an odd compliment, but I really like them.

Thank you, I will pass along the compliment. That is my Sons apartment. It is kinda difficult to find 'manly' plates. All of his stuff in his kitchen, livingroom, dining room and bedroom is either black, white or a medium gray. He went on the wildside and his bathroom is Navy and sky blue-ish.

Even when he was off at college I suddenly became aware of difficult it is to be a guy when purchasing stuff for their own home. The pickings are pretty slim. But when you start looking at products like paper plate, paper towel, (not every man when shopping wants Minions in their kitchen) Kleenex boxes, bath sink cups, napkins lean with variety to gals. Even so many sponges especially the ones with scrub type sides. I didn't notice it until we started shopping for his first college apartment.

Brief overview of my Alaskan trip (honestly, this story telling process has taken between 30 minutes to over an hour, and I'm trying to come up with a better condensed version for everyone):

My mom is one of six kids, and one of her sisters moved to Alaska, met her husband, and that's where she and my uncle decided to raise their sons. My cousins are both in their 20s, but the older one is out of college, so he had a little more free time than his younger brother (who is doing labor jobs before summer courses start). So, that's how I kind of got to go to Alaska and not have to worry where I was going to go and who I would be spending time with.

Highlights:
  • Denali National Park (so much to do there, and it's so pretty)
  • Standing on a bit of Exit Glacier (at Kenai Fjords National Park)
  • The Alaska Native Heritage Center
  • Lots of family time (I really miss spending all my time with my aunt right now)
  • The Musk Ox Farm
  • Walking around Seward
  • Reindeer sausage pizza
  • Seeing so many different animals that I typically don't see in the midwest (whales, moose, brown bears, puffins...)
  • The weather was pretty perfect. The occasional rain didn't put a damper on my vacation :)
  • Seeing mountains everywhere. I miss the mountains.

Aside from early elementary school none of my PE classes or coaches were ever co-ed or male taught/coached. In high school we changed what we were doing in PE and PE instructors 2x a quarter. From the time I was in middle school every single PE teacher I had was pure evil. Mean evil-loved to mess with the students. You could tell they got pleasure out of it. In high school my homeroom teacher was a dance PE Instructor and also did Poms. Never had her for a teacher but she was a sweetie. She was right out of college and the other female PE teachers were not nice to her, often made her cry.

That's sad. The 2 sponsors/coaches for poms are both math teachers. Came in handy when practice started about an hour before school let out for my daughter. I could have pulled her early those few days, but that would mean missing Geometry class. Coach told me don't worry, just get her there when I can.

I need to buy a longer hose. The one I have lets me water everything in the back yard, but nothing in the front yard. I can't keep carrying the sprinkle can out front to get the pots, and ignore the ground plants. I just wish we could get one good overnight rain. My husband plans on making a Target run tomorrow, so I am going to look for a hose there. However, they are rearranging everything at out Target store, so I'm not sure if they will have any good hoses in stock.
I need an excuse for a Target run:oops:

For some reason I couldn't add the tenth picture:
View attachment 209646 Feeding a reindeer on the Reindeer Farm (which does not put the animals on the meat market; they're mostly just used for festivals and Christmas things).
It's so cute:joyfull: The boys and I got to feed a few of those at a tree farm somewhere between Scranton Pa and Binghamton NY once. That was far enough north for me but I'm glad you had a great trip:joyfull:
