DD just turned 11 on Monday and DS is 9.

Yep, I wouldn't be leaving them in a hotel room quite yet either but getting closer!
Like you said I'd leave the the 11 year old for a little bit at home but that is their territory. It is amazing what a 2 years does though for trustworthy kids. Both my Sis and I babysat kids at 11 in our immediate neighborhood but my Mom was always home if need be. My kids never baby sat. They didn't want to and I could think of better ways for them to earn money. Different World these days.

I'll wave as you go by. :depressed: :joyfull: I'd probably get a headache watching it.

OK, I remembered incorrectly  (hey, it's been a few years ;)). Poltergeist only has one corkscrew turn near the end, and is a bit short, but, no less intense.

One of the other coasters at Six Flags Fiesta Texas is the Superman Krypton Coaster. Another awesome coaster with plenty of inversions, but, longer and more smooth. This one has never given me any problems...! :)

I'm with you...it depends on the situation, but in DD's case, it was that she wasn't taking ANY responsibility for herself...she was content to let mommy handle everything. Like, if they were going on a school trip and it didn't sound fun, she wanted ME to ask if she had to go, rather than talking to the teacher about it and telling her what her concerns were. Or if she had a disagreement with a friend, instead of talking it out with the friend, she wanted me to talk to the teacher. At the beginning of the year, there was a group project with 3 other kids and the other kids weren't doing their share. They were wanting DD to do the research for them and tell them what to type, and they would just type it. They were each supposed to do certain sections and they were responsible for researching, summarizing, and typing their own sections. 2 of the kids didn't do ANY of their work and then at the last minute, they announced that they would just take over DD's sections that she had done and present them. Obviously that's not what was meant to happen and DD had worked REALLY hard, so she said no. They kept insisting and she kept saying no. Rather than going to the teacher, she wanted ME to do it. That's when the teacher told me I wasn't doing her any favors, because those are skills she needed to learn herself...how to say no, and how to communicate with a supervisor when there's a problem, etc. So I backed off and had her do it herself...and now she's so much better for it. She's communicated a LOT with her teacher on things going on at recess or in the classroom...like, other kids getting bullied, etc. So she's gotten better at it. With DS, that doesn't work...he's communicated with the teachers and stood up for himself and it doesn't work...so THEN I go in mama bear mode. But he does TRY to handle it himself, where DD didn't.

As for that "gifted" program...wow....how worthless! Our school doesn't have a gifted program, but they have advanced groups for math, language, and reading...but you can be gifted in one area and not the others. DD and one other girl are the only kids who are in ALL the advanced groups. There are several kids who are only in the Math, or ONLY in the language one...and DD and this other girl are the only ones in the advanced reading. I like that better than just saying you have to be gifted in all areas to be in the gifted program. I was always GREAT with language, but poor in reading. I never made it into a gifted program because the tests involved a lot of reading. When I got to junior high, I got into advanced math. No reading necessary....I did well in math classes, so they put me in the program where we skipped the 2nd year of basic math and moved us to algebra instead, so we took each class a year early, which made room for calculus our senior year. That was the only thing I ever did that was close to a "gifted" program. My kids are both in the advanced groups, but there's no set "gifted" program and I like that. Any kid can be in an advanced group for something they are good at. They aren't left out because they aren't good at EVERYTHING.

Our Gifted program has improved greatly since my DD went through. It is why I got myself elected to the school board. We had a great board president when I was sworn in and she was helpful but needed to tread carefully when you have a kid still in the system

(I had a 6th grade language teacher remove my DD out of her Math class with another teacher and put her in a hall closet to sort through 100s of books, I had requested a particular book at a board meeting, the Principal requested it from the language teacher so she took my kid and put her in closet and told her she could come out when she located the book your Mom wants. Can you imagine when she came home how Mamma Bear I went??? I jut bypassed the teacher and went to the Principal-told him figure it out our I was filing a police report. He sat up straight in his chair then.)

But our schools were messed up for higher level learning. My DD was reading chapter books at the age of 4 years old. Kindergarten was insane for her. Sit in a circle and learn the letter of the week and what sound it makes. She was freak'n reading chapter books and they were teaching her ABCs. They figured they could have moved her immediately to 2nd or 3rd grade and I'd have none of that 'cause there were social issues with that. In high school or college that would have to be awful.

We use our Skype for IMing primarily, but also for meetings. We have locations around the world, so for meetings, we need to have a way to tie them in. It's also useful for sharing your screen with others, even if you're in the same room. Most people won't do a call without confirming that it's okay via IM or unless you've scheduled the call. I don't find it intrusive at all. I like that it gets me quick answers via an IM.

Yes, like I said they use the IMing software function, it is that face Skype they avoid. She gave a state of union for her entire department via face Skype with 20 minutes cause the dude that was to do it called in sick. She put the script in front of her screen. They could see her but she wasn't seeing the department.
They do department and sub department meetings with the software but they never turn the face video on. IMing they do all day long, a throw back to worked 2 decades ago. Funny how that works.

No, Heck no and H#LL NO!!!!!!! Sorry about the language. My dh is still trying to figure out when he and the boys all have time off at the same time to go camping in the woods up there. Me I'll be enjoying peace and quiet if they get to go:joyfull:

See I think you should go...they could drop you off at the nearest luxury resort hotel along the way and pick you up on the way back.

I didn't realize you have never been to Disneyland...? :cyclops: I guess I just A$$umed   ;), since So Cal (Anaheim) is so much closer to y'all than Cen Flo ;) (Orlando).
We haven't been to Disneyland since 2010. I've only been there 5 times. The first time in 1968, when I was 6 years old.
Y'all should plan a trip there next. It's a shorter flight, it's the original Disney theme park, and y'all won't regret it...! :)
"only" :bored:

Just a quick note. We all slept too late, so our plans had to change. We went to Epcot, did Spaceship Earth, living with the Land, Soarin' I liked Soarin' much better this time. It's a zoo with way too many people. We didn't take any pictures, except our lunch at San Angel. The beef taco's were horrible, beef was tough as shoe leather, and over done. The waiter made us wait for a long time to get our food. The server was pretty surly. We we finished, we asked for the check. It came fast, then ,the wait.....when the server came back, after a really long time...he said they were having computer troubles. We paid, with a Disney card, which the server didn't return. They looked through the restaurant and couldn't find it. We went to Guest Relations, to get the card straightened out. We had to call the bank, and cancel the card. And be issued a new card with the money put back on. Disney offered nothing for their mess up. 3 hours later we came back home. Disney need's to work with the employee's at San Angel. Lousy food and service. We won't be going back. On the positive side, many employees were friendly and went out of their to make our time, so far pleasant. Over all, it is going well, except for this one experience at San Angel.
wow that sucks.
I bet the waiter left the card with someone and then left as his shift ended.
because apart form that scenario, I do not get any other reason why would the waiter disappear completely with your card.

Is that what your son does at Disney? Is he still in the college program?

No. Long long gone from the college program, he is in his late 20s. He loved his time as a CP and made some awesome contacts because of it that furthered his career after graduation. He got everything that promised from that program and more. It worked out well for him, others not so much but I don't think it ever causes any harm unless they drop out of college cause they like the Disney job. He knew that wasn't an option :joyfull:

My kids both maintain their licences as an instructor/trainer. They were obtained up here. My DD still works a couple days a week as a Manager for their waterparks in addition to her career job. She calls it her Disney Vacation Fund job. :joyfull: This week she has worked about 60 hours at the outdoor waterpark getting it ready to launch, certifying lifeguards, cashiers and supervising staff as they inflate lazy river tubes etc.

There was a lot of money on that card. And it could be accessed. No one got anything, it was a major inconvenience. It was supposed to be somewhere in the restaurant.

You seem to be having a wondrous time. Happy for you! And quite the potpourri of photo's, love it! I've skipped so many posts, ooops. What is the congratulations for??? :cyclops: Missed something skipping around. Me, I so wonder how they clean all those lovey lighting fixtures at Morrie's Motos. Don't want that job. :joyfull:

I so want to ride a bicycle around your resort as I've seen @epcotisbest and his better half does someday. The property there is awesome and the proximity to Springs such a bonus. Hope your weather and the heat has been better today. Have fun, enjoy the family time relax and drink a margarita for me woman! :hungry:
You bet I will. Hubby is on my back about the drink.

We waited over an hour in the fall for an ADR at the Garden Grill last fall and then the service was so less than prompt. 1.5 hours for family style. Ridiculous.
We missed FP+ because of incompetent service at exorbitant price levels. The food was good but way too annoyed to enjoy. Messed with our plans to transfer to the MK for EMHs. Disney doesn't really have their act together at times.
I agree, see my post about San Angel. Never going back. The atmosphere is nice, but the food and service was really lousy.
