Thanks guys!!! We got here safely on Saturday and are trying to stay cool in this heat. It feels like July in FL!! Very humid but hey we are in WDW so it's ok!!! Miss you guys!! :)

Very happy to hear that you made it there safely, and are enjoying your vacation. I also had some really hot weather last week when I was there, but there were occasional breaks each day--sometimes cloud cover, and some days weren't too humid either. I hope you also get a few breaks in weather this week.

Lots of times writing is a visual thing. I was born cross eyed. My kids were not but had weak eye muscles that make eyes at times not work together and each eye seeing a different thing. Another warning sign is kids pushing their faces too close to their paper or book they are reading which forces the eyes to see the same thing at the same time, these are kids that often loose their place while reading. I so wish every kid had to see an ophthalmologist for a real visual screening to make sure the eyes were functioning correctly together not just a chart to see if they could read the letters on the chart.
So many special ed issues are more physical eye related than cognitive.

That's interesting. When I was in third grade, I had an operation on my left eye--it was turning inward. So I guess they had to redirect (the muscle ?) behind it to the other direction to straighten it out. Whatever they did, it worked.

I enjoyed the time in the children's unit at the hospital, because we had a playroom, and I got to play with the other kids there. They also gave (some) of us ice cream, and I thought it was just the best place for a kid at the time! :hilarious:

We have a bridge in IL that has chain link on the sides over the creek. The chain link is filled with attached combination pad locks. Rumor is it started with graduating Seniors affixed their locks to the fence upon graduation. Over the decades it has become almost art. All the colors. Amazingly these locks really don't rust even with our harsh weather. This isn't the bridge but similar.

This has been done elsewhere as well. In Paris, couples would lock their commitment to love each other, by putting a lock on the bridge fence. Problem was that after some years of doing this, the weight of the metal locks (the photos I saw did not have any open spaces like your photo above) started to cause some weight issues.

Here's a report from the BBC from a few years ago, about the outcome:

I haven't thought about your faceplants in a few months. Are you doing better with that, did different shoes help?
Apparently the shoes made all the difference. Not even a close call since I got the new ones. Makes sense because I never had the problem until I started using those other shoes. Hard to believe that a shoe can make that much difference, but, it really did. I think that if I hadn't had the leg issue to begin with they would have been really good for older people because they're (on the box) slip resistant. However, slip resistant with my situation is not a good thing.

Went to Pottercon Detroit yesterday (highly recommend going to one if you're an adult Harry Potter fan- they're 21+ events since they serve alcohol), and I bought a couple of new bracelets:

The bottom is my Hufflepuff bracelet (#badgerpride)
The top is also HP related... but I also kind of bought it because it's part of my favorite Buffy the Vampire quote ("You still my girl?" "Always")

Also got a Constant Vigilance tank top and a Hufflepuff tumbler.

The people running Pottercon are taking it to various cities around the country on what seems to be an almost weekly basis. I think there are a couple things they could probably figure out better (3 food trucks for 5000 people... not the best scenario, ditto with very few bathrooms), but my friends and I all had a lot of fun.

Hello, everyone. We are having thunderstorms and the T.V. just went off. We arrived on Sunday, tiring but we went to Disney Springs, to eat at the Polite Pig. Pictures to follow.IMG_5293.JPG

Not that this is anything new, but I just wanted to remind everyone that if you can make it to the EMH (different parks on different days), you can really plow through some of the bigger attractions in short time.

For example, AK -- Kilimanjaro Safari and Everest both done before 9 AM (no fastpass either). In EPCOT, I went on Soarin, Living With the Land, Test Trak, and Journey into Imagination -- all, also, before 9:20 AM (no fastpass on those either). Disclaimer: Journey isn't exactly a blockbuster :p, but I mentioned it just to show how many attractions you can fit in, in a short time span, when the park is only open to Disney hotel guests.

Some people also use orthotic inserts for shoes that really help their balance. Not sure if a general practice MD can tell you what size to get, or if you need to be measured by a podiatrist. You may not need those now anyway--sounds like the new shoes are working out well. :)

Yes EMH are the best to get a lot of stuff done. Even if we close a park we will make ourselves get up early to make to the early park open.
