Went to Pottercon Detroit yesterday (highly recommend going to one if you're an adult Harry Potter fan- they're 21+ events since they serve alcohol), and I bought a couple of new bracelets:

The bottom is my Hufflepuff bracelet (#badgerpride)
The top is also HP related... but I also kind of bought it because it's part of my favorite Buffy the Vampire quote ("You still my girl?" "Always")

Also got a Constant Vigilance tank top and a Hufflepuff tumbler.

The people running Pottercon are taking it to various cities around the country on what seems to be an almost weekly basis. I think there are a couple things they could probably figure out better (3 food trucks for 5000 people... not the best scenario, ditto with very few bathrooms), but my friends and I all had a lot of fun.
Jealous!! I don't think they have those cons over here. There's no market for them since the fandom is completely different. I've done the studio tour in London, and I saw most of the London film locations as well as Lacock. And I saw the exhibit here, too and I went to WWoHP in 2010 when it first opened, but I haven't seen the new part.

I'm so jealous. It seems I either have the time or the money to do things like that but never both at the same time:confused: Did you notice any Ravenclaw items?

Hello, everyone. We are having thunderstorms and the T.V. just went off. We arrived on Sunday, tiring but we went to Disney Springs, to eat at the Polite Pig. Pictures to follow.View attachment 206498

Artist Pallette breakfast. Will post Animal Kingdom tomorrow morning. It's storming too much, and the computer is flickering
Thnx for sharing a pic of my favorite Disney fountain. If Disney tries to remove it I hope you fine folks will all chip in to bail me out. I may chain myself to it:oops:

The events triggered a whole bunch of action from the VA concerning my feet. I have always been flat footed so they have authorized custom made inserts for my shoes (haven't gotten them yet as they are being manufactured), correction of a nail fungus problem and so on. The shoes seem to have taken care of the falling problem, but, my feet have been a source of pain for a number of years now. I am really happy that they are taking an active stance on fixing things up, even if I am older then dirt.
Good to hear your feet are better. How's the senior 500 going?

I tip well. Sometimes way too well for good service. I appreciate it and give kudos to those who do it well. Buffets I still do but begrudge in my own head. It isn't a personal thing with staff, it is the custom for that general lack of service while self serving that I don't agree with.

The custom was devised for the owners of the establishments to keep what they pay the staff below minimum wage and put the the earnings of staff on the consumer by making buffets, a self service venue a tipped position, benefiting the owners not the consumer. Annoying.
Anymore now, a lot of restaurants are going to the tip pool where the individual server doesn't get to take home their own tips. All tips go into a bowl to be distributed evenly between all servers and bus personnel. So you can have a bad server who still gets quite a bit, or a stellar server who gets lowballed.
Funny story...the day before dad's funeral, my brother's in-laws came into town to take are of my niece and my son (he was freaked out about the idea of going to the funeral). So when they got there, we all went out to eat at this restaurant together. So there was My brother and his husband and their daughter, his husband's parents, and my family of 4. We went early because we really had nowhere to be and they started serving prime rib at 4, so we were just going to have some appetizers and wait until they started serving dinner. My niece was 3 (she turned 4 a week and a half ago) and is not the most well-behaved child on the planet. She tends to be really loud and pretty hyper...add in the fact that she was SUPER excited to see her cousins and you have a handful! And because she was so excited to see her cousins, she couldn't keep her hands to herself...she LOVES to tickle people...my son HATES to be tickled and doesn't particularly like to be touched anyway. So she's trying to tickle him, he's trying VERY hard to be nice and just keeps asking her to stop, but he's getting frustrated and is trying to get away from her by hiding under a table and she's chasing him, plus she stole DD's drink, so she was caffeinated as well...it was a ZOO. The poor server...man, he worked hard that day and I felt really bad for him, and fortunately it was a Monday so the place was pretty dead, but still...it was a lot. And then the kitchen cooked my husband's steak well done when he ordered medium rare, so he had to send it back. Well, my husband went to go pay and of course, in the Netherlands you don't tip, and if you do, it's mostly just rounding off the change to an even dollar amount. So he's trying to figure out the tip and we were paying for the whole group of us and he was planning to give the guy a good tip anyway, so he was going to round it off to whatever amount with 60 at the end but got 60 stuck in his head and ended up tipping the guy $60. :hilarious: Probably made the guy's day. Oh well...he totally deserved it dealing with our group, but hubby felt really stupid because he's usually REALLY good with math. I guess jet lag, grief, stress, and math don't mix!! We tend to be good tippers anyway, but that was a BIT excessive.

Woohoo!! I'm Ravenclaw as well. I wanted a new Ravenclaw sweatshirt because mine is fraying at the ends, but they didn't have them at the exhibition. I'll have to wait until I go back to Universal. I do make bracelets and such though.

Thanks for all the chat & Pics of WDW trips. I really appreciate the updates of everyone's journeys to the World. The older I get, the more I appreciate the fact that I got to visit the Disney Parks as many times as I did. I lost count on exactly how many trips to each US location, but I think it's about a dozen times each, with my next trip counted in there as well. Not sure if the money will be there for future trips, so it's nice to have this website, to enjoy other people's shared pics, and posts.

I also enjoy vacation posts and photos from others here. It's always nice to read uplifting news and see happy photos. Your own posts are appreciated here as well, whether or not they relate specifically to Disney. Everyone contributes something, and that's what makes this forum so interesting, and why I look forward to reading it every day! :)

And in light of what happened yesterday in England, I think we all need a happy place to escape to, from time to time.

It's going OK, but, I fear that I have bitten off more then I can chew. I start to fade pretty fast after the first 5 hours. Thankfully, the last three are light and I don't have to get out of the seat often. The downside is when I do I'm stiff as a board. I may have to cut down on the hours, I'm still attempting to fool my body into thinking it is younger. It is fighting back.

Mine too, all of the cast on that show was wonderful. I loved all the one liners while developing their individual character's.
The last one, being centered in Vermont had, of course, a built in obligation for a Vermonter to watch it. Little known fact the opening scene in that show was actually a unused scene from "On Golden Pond" so it was New Hampshire, not Vermont. As another side note... There are many Larry, Darrell and Darrell's in Vermont.
Unreal--just the thought of waiting 40 minutes for that one . .. ;)
I don't need to think about it... anything over 5 minutes would come under the heading of "time I'll never get back".
