How is everyone this morning? I'm on day 3 of a migraine, my work phone has been out all week, and my brand new work computer crashed this morning (thankfully I ran it in safe mode and got it working, and thankfully I wasn't in the middle of anything, but the blue screen is the LAST thing you want to see). So technology has not been my friend lately.

Oh dear, I hope the migraine has gone by now.

As for computer issues at work, they plague us all. The other day I was staffing 3 meetings (it just happened to be an extremely busy day), and in all three of the various conference rooms I was using, none of the equipment was working properly. If it wasn't the LCD, it was the computer or vice versa.

Called in tech support for one of the rooms. The other two, I somehow managed to troubleshoot a bit, and with dumb luck, the systems finally kicked on. The main issue we have in such a huge organization where I work, is that too many people have their hands on the equipment. Especially the ones that bring in their own laptops (and don't know what they're doing), and just start disconnecting cables, etc. -- and "leave" it a spaghetti mess of pulled out wires and cables, for the next group that comes in. Then I need to quickly "attempt" to get everything up online again, on the conference room's pc to the LCD.

Very stressful . . . because, heaven forbid, each conference room's electronic equipment is set up the same. (Why would they do something like that, that would make sense?) And I've never counted, but there has to be at least 35 different conference rooms all over the complex. :banghead:

Sympathy like. You had one of these "should have stayed in bed" days. Hopefully will get better on this weekend.

Had an eventful day on my side too.

  1. Drove all the way to the other side of the bay.. To the government main branch office to get my permits picked up. I had paid online but you have to wait and then pick up the papers and authorization cards (and stickers).
  2. Then had to drive a looong way to get to the store that sold me the tires. They were packed with people.. decided to go elsewhere to check something else.
  3. Went to get my muffler fixed. Took me a bit to find it, since the place had a lot of repairs centers in the neighborhood.
  4. Fixed my "loose" car exhaust (muffler). Had to replace the entire thing, it was not only loose. Corrosion (salt is not friendly on metals, particularly chrome) had almost destroyed the exhaust silencer block. Took 1 hour and half to get an exhaust that fit.
  5. Used the time to search for a friend who lived nearby, couldn't find him. Decided to eat at my favourite restaurant (which ironically was just 2 easily walkable blocks away from the repaircenter)
  6. Had good foods, bought for mother too.
  7. Good suggested good places to repair the rest (A/C, which I think a rat or squirrel decided to make himself home in the A/c.. the a/c no longer works, and smells like putrid poo when turned on. Plus there was big seeds of fruits right in the engine outer block. And also a place to fix my window (electrical window damaged because some ahole tried to force it open to steal something in my car.
  8. Went back to the tire store, got refilled with Nitrogen, balanced..etc.. went back home.
  9. Was lucky all these places accepted credit card payment, as I have almost nothing in cash. And didnt had time to go to a bank.

OMG! Sorry to hear about your day--that's really bad! I hope today is nice for you though.

My cold is still in full force but I made it through the day at work. When I came home I knew I had the summon the energy to take Kapono for a walk. I got a huge smile on my face when I saw her, as hubby had put one of her new harnesses on her. I think she looks beautiful in it and I think she felt pretty too. She had a little extra prance in her walk today. She has the Minnie leash that matches it on too. And no @MinnieM123 they don't have one in your size! :);) Disney has Mickey ones too but the only sizes her small and medium. I got Kapono a medium.

My husband will not get rid of his books. Sure he has old/older books, but I am talking about new books that he has just bought/read. So, my basement is lined with bookcases holding his collection. He even had books in my mom's old china cabinet. I finally moved the books, and put my Christmas dishes in there. Gotta put the foot down somewhere. He complains that I don't read. I read. However, more for information, than pleasure.

Dang she looks so cute!

Question? When she is groomed do they leave her eyelashes long? That photo makes her look like she has pretty Betty Boop eyelashes.

She actually is in need of grooming, she is getting really gy & fuzzy. My husband like when she becomes a fur ball. My sister is the one who grooms her for us. She just basically shaves her down and will trim her eyebrows really short. I like her look best about a week-week and a half after getting shaved, her fur then is a little bit long so it feels nice on my hand, but not a fuzz ball.

My old dog Henry, would get stand offish when his fur got too long. He wouldn't want to cuddle much and then as soon as he got clipped he wanted to snuggle all the time. We called it his Sampson complex, like his fur gave him independence and once it was cut he was "weak". He was a great dog. Kapono just wants to snuggle all the time.

Felt good doing something that I had needed to go.
Since its far to the other side of the bay. I do not like to got that far much.

Also forgot to mention that I also took a few hours to get to the Government office to get my circulation card and permit renewal (for my car). Its amazing how much it takes in my country to solve such simple things.

I think your last statement could be true here too. Sometimes government just runs slow, like the Department of Motor Vehicles nearest us is only open certain days of the week and for limited hours. So going to get something renewed is a hassle.

Oh Boy. Am I jealous of the time to be able to read 10-20 books a month. Wooba. As of late if I finish a novel in a month I'm blessed.

I know what you mean, it would be great to read so much. Although if I didn't spend so much time on the internet I probably could!:) My goal for 2017 was to read more. I started January strong with 5 books and since then barely a book a month. The other day I got a library alert that an item was in, I was shocked. I hadn't been on the library site for awhile, it turns out it was something I requested in early March for school that I didn't need anymore. But I took that opportunity to request some books, so hopefully I will get back on track. And with summer coming up the reading time will be more available.

And yet in the end I think our kids will be different. NewsPapers are already leaning this way. More and more schools are going full on tablets in lieu of paper text books. They grew up with tech so it is the norm.

Yep, we are looking at new science texts and the e-book components are great. And there a lot of features that the kids can use to help them understand the text better, like it can read it to them or they can highlight text and make notes in the "margins". One we are looking at I have access to their ebooks so I can see what they do and correct their work online. The company also has a paper version that we will probably go with as well since we are rural and have many low income families so not all the kids have internet access at home. But it should be interesting to use the online stuff.

Now rest up and kill the rest of the germies. GWS xoxo

Thanks Kapono and I ventured out this morning for our Saturday doughnut run. But I plan to spend the rest of the day in the recliner, well at least until 6:45 pm. Then I have to go over to school, it is prom tonight and the prom coordinator talked me into counting ballots for king and queen again. She likes to have a staff member be one of the people who count ballots so parents aren't counting. That lead to fights and accusations of rigging the prom election in the past. So now I count the ballots with this lady's husband (who doesn't work at the school and doesn't know the kids at all) Which will be fine as it will only take about an hour at most. I think she was counting on me to stay and chaperone the dance a little but with my cold I said I would come in and count ballots and then leave at the grand march.

Seeing everybody will be on much different schedules this summer and trying to do anything as a family except the long list of mandatory family functions will most likely not happen I came up with a plan to do fun things at home besides the pool. James has been asking to learn to sew for a month or two and my machine is not one to learn on so I asked my favorite shop owner to keep an eye out for an inexpensive learner machine. I got an email yesterday and one of the school machines he sells is being discontinued and he'll sell me the floor model for just the cost of the tune up and of course he backs everything he sells. Guess where I'm off to today:joyfull: There's also a quilt shop hop this summer for kids that James wants to do so we can do that on a few his non band days:joyfull: I also signed up my older ds for bowling which he missed out on last year due to our being away for so much of our summer. So between swimming on nice days, a few small jaunts, family functions and a large stack of books we'll have lots of fun on our staycation:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull:

Sounds fantastic. It is so cool that James wants to learn how to sew. It will be a great skill for him in the future.

This is so funny, because it reminds me of a story my mother told me--about me when I was a little tyke. I had no patience at all for "naps" and by the time I was only about 1, I stopped. She'd put me in the crib for a nap, and she said that every time she'd come to see if I was sleeping peacefully, I'd be sitting up in bed fumbling with the blanket, or staring out the window, or up at the ceiling. She said I looked frustrated! :hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious:

I was not a napper either. I would hide under the blankets and play with toys quietly or read a book (once I learned how to read) with a flashlight. Or I would sneak out and end up watching soap operas with my mom, it seemed as long as I sat quietly she was okay with that.

With all this conversation about reading and books, it reminds me of a conversation I had with my mom before she met my husband. Mom was an avid reader and luckily she shared her love of books with me. My father is not a reader (nor is my sister), he will read the occasional western. Anyway, she was asking me about what Brad (now hubby) liked to do and when I said that he loved to read she was tickled! She thought it was wonderful and even commented that because we were both readers we would always have something new to share with each other and talk about. It was one of her favorite traits about him. Actually, hubby and I were such reading nerd that sometimes when we were dating we would just hang out in my apartment and read our books next to each other. I know we are geeks! Sorry for the ramble down memory lane....:bookworm:

@donaldtoo , a belated Happy Birthday to dwifey!! :joyfull:

We've had internet issues at home for 3 days, and Verizon just fixed (their) MESS last night over this. So I apologize for not acknowledging her birthday sooner. Glad you all had such a fun celebration. :)

Thanks, and she says thank you! :)

I wondered why there were no posts from you the one morning...glad y'all got the Internet issues fixed...! :)

Ours has not yet but many surrounding districts have gone completely to tablets. Example, each student at a local high school is given a tablet Freshman year. Parents can buy insurance which is cheap. All textbooks/workbooks are loaded on the tablets. Also helps with students that are out ill as tablets go home every night. Homework is listed for the day on the tablet and for those sick and quick email. No pulling a stack of stuff and a parent having to pick up. Further no kids accidently forgetting a book at school. Student notes are on tablet too. Basically removes the need for folders, paper, pens etc in volume. Even many tests are given on tablets and the 'submitted.' The parents can easily see what the homework is for the night and long term projects. At the end of the 4 years the students family can buy out the tablet for next to nothing.

My DD is out of college since the end of 2013 but even back then the last 2 years half of books were etextbooks Also with her being very small not having to lug these texts in their backpack was nice and would have been even better in elementary/middle school.

Can you tell I am a fan too?

The fact that Mrd Ferret starts work at 6:30am and i don't start until 9. As i am already up and taken her to work most days i go to work early and sit in the office reading until i have to do something.

It seems you have a soul of hardworking who hates just sitting doing nothing.
I wonder if in another life you were a great explorer or inventor!
