Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
So I'm off from work tomorrow, because the Governor of the Commonwealth has shut down the entire public transit system and has also ordered all vehicles off the road (except for emergency vehicles). Yay, I get to stay home!!

From the latest weather report I just watched a few minutes ago, apparently there will be 3-4 inches of snow PER HOUR starting very early tomorrow morning when the blizzard really starts to hit. (It's been snowing lighter since this afternoon, but that will change overnight.) We're supposed to get wind gusts up to 60 mph, and with heavy, wet snow predicted at 2-3 feet over the next 30 hours, that's going to mean power outages. I hope we hang on to ours. Anyway, if I go MIA on this forum for a few days, it's because the power went out. But rest assured, I'll still be fine if that happens, because I'll be outside in the snow making a snowman! :p :hilarious:

And you can keep your refrigerated food in the snowman!

This storm is similar to the one we had around 3 years ago. It was the drifts that got us. Entire day of DH and me shoveling out the driveway. Both door sealing us in with drifts up to the eves. I'm sending all you guys Pixie Dust and Good Karma. God Speed.

Oh, @JenniferS wishes she were at 700.

A typical day (from which I seldom deviate):

1/2 protein bar - 80
100 g. (3 1/2 oz.) grilled chicken - 170
1 tbsp. reduced cal. Greek salad dressing - 25
100 g. 0% fat Greek yogurt - 50
1/2 yellow pepper - 25
2 cups baby romaine leaf lettuce - 10
1 tbsp. 5% coffee cream
= 370 calories

If I wanted to set myself up for non-stop cravings all day, I could eat 2 tiny pieces of a very limited selection of low-glycemic index fruit & 2 servings of bread (which would be the equivalent of 2 x 1/2 slices of diet bread - 50 calories)

Now you know why the diet is so closely medically supervised, and why the vitamin and potassium supplements are so necessary. FYI - the 3x weekly B6/B12 injections are in the belly.
Good thing I am unphased by any kind of shots!

ETA - I ate like this, day in and day out for 4 months after my dad died. Like I said, I lost 55 lbs. without any hunger pains. I hate being hungry!
Yikes, I would definitively break if I had to eat such limited food options D:

We had that happen with our FIOS DVR box right after we got home from Hilton Head. We came home and the box would not turn on. I looked at it and thought that it was a major hardware failure based on the clicking noise it was making. I hate being right sometimes.
clicking noise.. the dreadful feel when the internal storage unit is dead.

We too have a variety of choices.

Verizon or Comcast. Comcast stinks, therefore, we've got Verizon.

Can't get satellite here; too many trees.
you cant elevate the antenna higher??

I chose not to know what I was having. I wanted the surprise. The surprise of 9# boy the first round with zero drugs was enough for a long while. 5 years later was the DD. We both agreed early on with 3 children. Between a boy a girl, and the girl being in the NIC Unit I was DONE! I hate family names. My BIL is stuck with Albert. My MIL was so ticked when he had a son and they didn't stick with that. My DH showed interest in my DS being named after him which I was OK with just so he was called something else. My DH had the most popular boy name for decades so it was acceptable but I was not willing to have two people in the house ignoring me cause they thought I was talking to the other. We went with a another name. My DD was named by my son. He was in love with a little girl by that name in Daycare.
I named my brother. He's named after Brady Anderson, my favorite Oriole at the time. :)

We have so many family names and the only one that's not horrible (both my brother's and my middle name) is Lee. Among them are Thelma, Mildred, Laurence, and Frederick. I would have been Frederick after my dad if I had been a boy. The sad part is that he uses his middle name, Lee () because he doesn't like it. And his father, Fred, said not to do it because he regretted it. Strange coincidence, but my mom's middle name is...Lee.:hilarious: The newest family name is William, which isn't so bad. My cousin and nephew are both William. But they gave him his fiance's father's name as a middle name and he goes by that.

Yet some people who should not be parents pop them out like rabbits.

My one cousin and his girlfriend are total deadbeats. They popped out two beautiful girls who are living with my aunt because both are in prison.

On the other side of my family, my one cousin just had a baby with her boyfriend last Thursday. He works at a bar, and she has no job. She also has mounds of students debt and owes my grandfather $800 since he cosigned the loans when my grandmother made him. And now she's got a baby, that was planned FYI. Very bright. Yet she reamed out our other cousin when she got pregnant (and later had a miscarriage) for being unwed and jobless and having a baby. Seems quite hypocritical to me.

Yet my cousin who is happily married, has a steady job as a nurse, and would make an excellent mother (and her husband an excellent father) has had four miscarriages and is still working on getting pregnant, and she might never be able to do so. Quite sad

is this some sort of money savings technique by the pencil guys at WDW?
The theory is that there is a Florida law that prohibits children from gambling and also prohibits them from receiving prizes of over 75 cents. A few places, like Chuck E. Cheeses and Dave 'n Busters have gotten sued recently.

My theory is that Disney is waiting to see how the cases play out before pulling the plug on all of the claw machines.

That was my Mom's thought of being Left Handed, like the devil's hand. Yeah, not only did I have those nuns, my Mom did too and my Aunt was a Nun and boy she was a scary thing. No way was my Sis going to be a Lefty.
its amazing how some people can be freaking scary, all because they fall for the "different is scary and evil" point that routine the super religious crazehs :|

I think they are only going to have kids if they can do it themselves.

He already has a son from a previous relationship. The kid lives primarily with his mom and spends summers with them. I've met him; he's a good kid. But I think they have it in the back of their minds that he could need to live with them if something goes wrong with the mom. And if something happens with my aunt and she can no longer care for the nieces, then they would end up with the girls. They already have them quite a bit so my aunt can get a break.

So I think they are only trying naturally and would try to limit it to one. But I know she does want one of her own, and it's sad that she had all of the miscarriages, though not surprising because her mom had a bunch as well.

ohh gotcha. I still have no idea why it could affect the claw machines.

no,
I expect Disney to try to be original and not copy and paste.
I never said anything against the long line of "fairy tale". but the almost identical face must go.
It's not really an almost identical face.

All Disney princesses for the most part have big eyes and pretty faces. Even before Frozen. Look at Tangled. Rapunzel had a similar face (of course, she and Anna and Elsa are supposed to be cousins, so that's a different thing entirely). So they aren't copying, they are following the mold for princesses that they've already set.

They tried to change that with Merida and Brave and it didn't really work. So they stick with what works. Can't fault them for that.

Because the law states that kids cannot receive prizes from any game machine worth more than 75 cents.

The stuffed animals and other toys are definitely worth more than 75 cents. The beanie baby Olaf I have was in the claw machine. I got it at Five Below for $5, but I've seen them elsewhere for more like $7-$10. Candy claw machines are not there because they're worth less than 75 cents.

thats the problem, repunzel set the "set" design.
All prior princesses had more apparent differences.
now they seem cookie cutter made.

Keep warm, stay safe, and I hope you get to enjoy some of your favorite snow fun on your day off...! :)

Got up at 4:30 a.m. and looked out--the snow was blowing horizontally left and then immediately to the right! HA! Opened back door; snow had drifted up a foot so far and blew in on me when I opened the door. My dog, who had followed me to the door, bolted in the opposite direction when the powder snow flew in at me! He's such a pansy. Meanwhile, hubby is sound asleep. I was excited to wake up and go see what was happening. What's the matter with man and beast in this house? Am I the only hearty soul? I can't wait to go out and shovel some of this later on; like I said, it's powder snow and very light.

Municipal plows have been going up and down the road constantly since last night. Note: the private plow drivers out there will make a fortune in $ on this storm. (Also, quite a few landscaping companies switch over their businesses to snow plowing in the winter.) When I finally do start shovelling later on, I'll be out there waving to them. (They wave and smile back to me. You'd think I was a 5-year-old; love this . . .  )

Yay, @MinnieM123 is up!
What's the weather doing?

I'm going to break my "no t.v. before 8:00 a.m." rule just to to see the idiots at CNN standing in the middle of a blizzard.

I had the tv on for about a half hour. I love local tv weather coverage; you get to see all the "on air personalities" (that's what they call them nowadays on the news . . .) out there getting blown to pieces in the wind and snow. It's hilarious. They put these people all over the state and the message is always the same; it's snowing. Oh, one guy was in the middle of Boston, and he reported that he saw a mouse run by. Okaaay . . . I think they need to write some scripts for these characters, as they obviously don't have the skills for ad-libbing . . .

I heard stories from you and others about the left-hand thing and nuns. However, I had 8 years of parochial school and never saw any evidence of that. My best friend there was left-handed, and it was never pointed out by any of the nuns for the 8 years she was there. (Maybe all the nuns there were also left handed?? o_O :D)
