I don't get it either. I even do some extra research when I go on "cheaper" vacations. My dh's cousins planned a trip to Disney so of course I offered to help make ADRs and such, they said they could handle it. Long story short. They stayed on property, made not one ADR, not one EMH and complained they waited all day every day one line, ate nothing but dry burgers lunch and dinner, couldn't find the big Disney store, thought I was kidding about there actually being a French pastry shop, etc. worst of all they never caught any night time shows. Needless to say they have no plans to ever go back:( On the other hand I have a friend who when planning a Disney trip invites me down for a weekend of no kids a couple of nice meals and all the wine I can drink:joyfull: That friend is somebody I wish would go way more often:angelic:

Hahaaa...!
"Will plan Disney trips for Food and Wine.

My iPhone's been askin' me to update ever since I got it Christmas before last. I keep hittin' "Later" and "Remind me later".
I'm not sure...is it safe to go there now...? o_O

A year ago October after I updated my iPhone it was the last thing it ever did. It was almost 2 years old.
The Apple Store declared her a goner. I had just under 2 months left of my service contract. I got a new iPhone from Apple. *phew* 'cause they are 'spensive little hand appendages.

In a way, they are correct, however, they have missed an important part of that whole scenario. I have always felt that it was the guest themselves that either experienced the "magic" or didn't. If they felt overwhelmed with excitement, marveled at what they were seeing and surprised at every turn, the magic as partially there and only a minor effort on the part of Disney for them to feel the magic.

Now if it starts out with stress, decisions making concerning FP's, ADR and special cost events, the magic starts to fade before they even get there. Excitement is replaced by confusion and fatigue, obsessed with costs and planning. Worried about if they did everything necessary to have a good time and not have forgotten something crucial only to have it confront them when they got to the gate then the magic will be reduced to a firecracker when it once was full blown fireworks. Guest attitude is what creates the magic feel, if the attitude is bad going in almost all of the alleged magic will be hard to find. Because of all the effort required to successfully set themselves up for a good time, the expectations are higher also. Lately that is something that Disney cannot deliver on. That part Disney management is to busy counting their magic bonuses to notice. Hopefully they will before it's too late.

I was referring to simply planning a trip, not good or bad attitudes going in. We've always had good attitudes from the first trip to the latest...why would you go there if you had a bad attitude about the trip in the first place...?!
I don't wanna' be anywhere voluntarily if I think it's gonna' s**k.
The first family trip we took with all 3 kiddos was in '01.DWifey had been there twice before (including our honeymoon), and I only once before on our honeymoon in '88. Only 2 Parks open back then.
By '01, all 4 Parks were open, and we did a lot of research/planning, especially because we had never been there before as a family of 5.
It went like a breeze...and the one after that did, too. :)
Fast forward...
We don't plan quite as extensively anymore, and are easily adaptable, because we've been several times, and are mostly familiar with the flow, what's where, and don't feel the need to adhere to a plan to the Nth degree.
I think those of us who planned early on and got used to most things over the years are at an advantage. Those who go for the first time without any planning effort or research are much more likely to experience a major fail, IMO.
Bottom line, we weren't overly stressed early on because we did plan, now we're not overly stressed because the early on planning got us accustomed to it all. :)

OK, I give up... it is impossible anymore to have a discussion without everything going to absolute extremes. I could explain myself, but, frankly it just isn't worth it anymore. Everything is black and white and there are no gray areas anymore, I guess. The Monkeys (the group not the one with diapers in a stroller) were way ahead of their time. I'll see y'all.

Hey guys. Things are going to be very rough at my house for a while:( We just lost a friend who was very close to all of us and like my big brother or second father since just after I got out of school. He was one of the sweetest people to ever walk this planet and I have no clue how to tell my boys. My older ds will be devastated because when he was little we lived near to each other and he spent a great deal of time at our place. Even though life left us many miles apart we made sure to talk every week.:(

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. Hugs! :(

What the heck is your problem...?!?!?!
And, WTH "extremes" are you talking about?!?!?!
I was just giving my point of view in followup to your post. I wasn't arguing with you, nor did I get argumentative in any way with my reply. Just my point of view.
Again, WTH? Good grief, already...
