Many years ago in high school I dated a girl whose mother was deaf from birth. They, of course, all signed (mom, pop, her, and her 2 younger sibs). Plus mom could read lips and also speak (like Marlee Matlin).
I remember that there were lamps around the house that would blink when the phone was ringing.
I can't remember the exact technology, but, I think whoever was callings words would show up on a screen on the phone and she could talk back to them, and then if the caller had a similar setup they could also type back and forth.
It was all a pretty cool setup, though...! :)
Thanks, I pretty much expect to go deaf in my later years. That happened to my Grandma. Will have hubby look into these.

Good afternoon, everyone. We are finally out of the deep freeze. We spent Friday, sending out cards, and doing the wrapping. It's hard to get into the season. Saturday, we got 12 inches of snow, with the high of 0. Sunday, at 3 degrees, we dug ourselves out of the snow mountain. I'm a touch, sore today. But we will be 54 tomorrow. That's a literal heat wave!;)

In other news, I have bronchitis. I've had a cold for about a week, and last night I started feeling really miserable, so I went to the doctor today, and sure enough...

Ideally, I would just stay home all day today, but sadly, not an ideal situation. I have my very last final today, and I don't want to delay it. I also have to go pick up a cord for my honors program and drop off my creative writing portfolio, so I unfortunately have to leave. Tomorrow, I have plans to take my brother (and his one friend since I let him invite one of his friends and FYI, I am an awesome sister) to see Rogue One, so I will do that, and then I will stay home on Saturday and Sunday.

Lovely stuff.
I hope you are feeling a little better.

I was one of those awful parents that actually purchase several of those pirate pistols from the Pirate Gift shop for my kid. Now those guns are props not sold to guests. Same thing in all the Disney Parks now. Have you seen some of these fake or not even close to resembling a weapon that kids get tossed out of school for here? It is that zero tolerance mentality, me I referred to the policy as zero brains on part of the administrators.

Really??? Baltimore 2nd Grader Suspended For Biting A Breakfast Pasty Into The Shape Of A Gun

A boy who threw an imaginary grenade at recess, another for having a firearm piece on his tiny lego person-suspended for the balance of the school year.

This one made me bang my head. The girl was not only expelled but couldn't be in car when siblings were dropped off or picked up from school as she was a threat to other students.

It wasn't me! I know better! It doesn't look like it is going over 20 degrees today and I can hear the wind:mad::cautious::arghh::bawling::cold::coldfeet::cry::cry::cry: I hate winter, it's currently 71 in my house and I'm still cold. A few minutes ago I had to go into the pantry and a bottle of spied red wine caught my eye, I was good and put on some herbal tea:( Frozen seems like a good movie for today:hilarious:
I hope you are getting warmer weather. I'm many pages behind. I will catch up, I hope!

DD went back to school today...I didn't want her to miss the reveal of the new school name, but she is still feeling off and her temp was up tonight, so she may end up staying home tomorrow. Though if that happens, we can't go to my nephew's birthday party because of my BIL's kidney problems. I hope you got to relax today!!
Thanks, it's been very stressful around here. I just want the Holiday's to be over for this year. Christmas music and happy holiday greetings are making me sad this year.

Well, he had a transplant 11 years ago...it seems to be going well, but he does have to be careful and it means that if we are sick, we can not be around him. His body can't fight off infection by itself, so if he gets a fever, he goes straight to the hospital. He got sick 2 years ago around this time, wound up going to the ER on New Years and spent 6 weeks in the hospital recovering from Pneumonia. So we don't mess around with it. If DD isn't feeling better, I'll stay home with her and DH will go with DS. It will all work out. How are you feeling today? Any better?0
Thanks for asking, I go in and out of my sadness. I will recover after all is settled.

We used to rub a little cooking oil on our dog's paws. The snow was less likely to stick. And if they licked it, it didn't hurt, and can help a dog's coat in the winter.

I'm not so worried about the snow on her paws it is all the road salt. I don't want her licking that up. And the boots do keep her paws warm. I figure if boots are good enough for sled dogs they are ok for my baby.
