It got into the yes/no gun control debate . It's future was limited at that point.
Yeah, that topic always seems to lead to a lot of confrontation. Here in the states we seem to have lost our ability to calmly sit down and discuss issues. Things seem to deteriorate into a screaming match pretty quickly. I wish we could all learn to get along and respect others and their opinions, even if they are contrary to our own...

Many years ago in high school I dated a girl whose mother was deaf from birth. They, of course, all signed (mom, pop, her, and her 2 younger sibs). Plus mom could read lips and also speak (like Marlee Matlin).
I remember that there were lamps around the house that would blink when the phone was ringing.
I can't remember the exact technology, but, I think whoever was callings words would show up on a screen on the phone and she could talk back to them, and then if the caller had a similar setup they could also type back and forth.
It was all a pretty cool setup, though...! :)

Prehistoric IM'ing.

In other news.. saw Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children.
It was a fun movie until they.. again.. like many other movies.. depend on outright character stupidity to advanced the plot (to make the evil guys have an advantage).
I swear I lose neurones everytime writers use that cheap way of writing to move the plot towards a certain target instead of being creative.

Ironically, the movie feels a lot like a "classic oldie" x-men movie.
Where the majority of the powers are indeed varied and not always useful unless on the specified circumstances.. (unlike x-men, where all characters can pull super strength or some BS powerups out of their butts to win)

My dog hates anything put on him. He thinks he's handsome enough -- no embellishment needed! :D

Walt hated anything on him, even when he went Trick or Treating. I will have to find the photo of him with his Lifeguard visor on though. Pretty silly Pup he was.

Thank you! It did and they perform again today and tomorrow. My poor baby hates getting dressed up

My kids rarely got dressed up but they seemed to enjoy it once in a blue moon. Choir was originally OK they were required to wear black pants or skirt/dress and white top and no gym shoes. It went smoothly for many years until we voted in a couple of overzealous parents into office for the Music Booster Parents Assoc. It was never the same. They got into their heads that our students didn't score as well in compititions because they were not 'uniformly dressed.' (not that some other choirs actually sounded better-bigger schools, bigger pool of talent)

Student Choir Uniform became Docker type black slacks, school ordered White Tux Shirt with Black Buttons and shoes had to be black, flat and tied, solid black socks. Belt had to be a standard black belt with generic type buckle. Nothing in hair allowed. I had a Mom wig out at me during a performance because she noted my DD socks had the tiniest spec of white polkadot under her slacks mind you. Truth be told the laundry somehow ate one of the socks and that was the best I could when I remembered before the concert one went missing.

They looked horrible but they matched. They sounded pretty good (I'm a realist) but white Tux shirts look even worse on middle school kids then they do on Men without a tie, vest or jacket. It is also a pet peeve of mine to require girls to dress up in guys clothing. DD weighed about 85 pounds in a boxy white shirt and she is as white as a ghost to start with, little boy Dockers, boyish shoes. Not a good look for any of the females in the choir. Middle School is rough enough without parents acting crazy to 'win.' Being in the Choir wasn't a 'sport' so they already thumbed their noses at some of the athletes already without making them look like dorks.

Note: They came in 3rd. The two schools that won were in jeans, one black, one blue and both schools designed and ordered custom T-Shirts. They were dressed for their age in the competition.

Add a few more layers and a London Fog puffy coat and that's how I dress for my daily walk this time of year. I love that coat, it's very warm and I'm currently trying to find one like it. It's still in decent shape but is older than James.

My DD bought a Long Puff Coat at Eddie Bauer outlet last spring. Might look at theirs.

Then a week later got a notice from there that her credit card info might have been part of the hack of their accounts.

Good dogs.
While I appreciate the creativity that some parents have with it, that thing creeps me out.

I agree. Most of what I've seen from Mom's has been kinda cute but it did get old seeing Elf stuff overly posted.
Then I started to be dumbfounded by what some Mom's would post especially where children could or would see.
Yep those creep me out big time and I wonder what the heck those Mom's are thinking.

Note: I say and single out Mom's 'cause I can't recall ever seeing my Dad friends ever posting Elf on Shelf photos.
Wouldn't be sad if the Elf thing faded away.

She made it with stone beads and elastic, I think they're a couple and he gave her and one of his best gal pals earrings he got at a buy one get one sale.

And so it begins.

My DS didn't date, he did relationships, some long term some went away pretty quickly. One during high school I put an end to, only time I voiced an opinion. I knew way more about her, the family from sitting on our school board. That girl was freak'n scary. Pretty but scary. In college there was a summer love that went away by fall, praise the Lord. Then another one that just rubbed me the wrong way he met during the Disney CP.
Fortunately that one just faded away as one living in the midwest and the other on the East Coast it was just doomed. I've actually liked the majority of the young women, he has pretty good taste and judgement.

Hang on to the coat if it works for you, because if you try to replace the same style (same company), you might not get exactly the same thing. About 9 years ago I had a long, down coat from Eddie Bauer. It was great. Then two years ago, I bought the same coat, but in a different color. Big mistake. They had cheaped out on the quality of the components (except for the down). I pulled a snap open and the thing ripped right out of the front of the coat. (There were some online comments from customers who also experienced the same thing.) The zipper was not finished off in the bottom seam, as nicely as the older model, etc. Even the material wasn't as strong as the previous one. That company is off my radar now--I'll never buy anything again from them.

(Oh, I didn't return it, because at the time, I needed a very warm coat--I was stuck. So I took it to a tailor to mend the snap area, and he said it was stupid that they didn't line the backing of the snap--the pulling would assure it ripping out of the coat. After that, I didn't use any of the snaps--just the zipper. I replaced just that one snap so that the front of the coat would look the same.

I have had real good luck with Eddie Bauer coats and clothing. I just went and looked at my DD long coat, maybe they solved the problem. Hers has a long zipper and a collar that goes up the neck to chin if zipped all the way. There are not any snaps. The hood is removable but it has little bolt type grommets with material loops that attach the hood.

My longer (car coat medium warmth) is Khaki Green heavy cotton has snaps that go over the zipper with a flap. The zipper does it, I never snap. What is it with the zip and snap thing?

I always had a philosophy about that. Stop doing the elf on shelf thing and it will fade completely out of sight. I was fortunate that it wasn't around until after my kids had grown up, but, even they took the page from good old Dad's playbook and never did it with their kids. There is enough to do this time of year without adding to it.

I'm not sure how we used to survive and have wonderful memories about Christmas without that stuff. We had simple stuff like letters to Santa read on the radio by Santa himself. My sister and I used to sit every night glued to the radio to hear our letters read by the big man. We did have the religious observations of Advent and Advent Calendars, carols and visiting the elderly in homes and hospitals, Midnight Mass (my Dad sang in the choir). There were Christmas trees (real), the smell of pine, tinsel on the tree, one present allowed to be opened on Christmas Eve. (always regretted that because that meant one less on Christmas Day), laying on the floor below the Tree and looking at our reflection in the ornaments, bubble lights, Homemade Christmas ornaments, gifts laying in wait under the tree with room left for Santa's stuff. Cookies and milk plus a carrot left for Santa and the Reindeer.

Panicking when there was no snow on the ground on Christmas Eve, filled with anxiety concerning how a sleigh would land without snow. (Dad told us that Santa had tires that he could lower to land if there was no snow. We bought it just like we bought the no fireplace thing. They left the door unlocked.) All good memories that don't seem to be used much anymore. Some yes, but, not many, instead you have an Elf on a Shelf.
