One of my favorite Thanksgivings prekids was one where almost nobody was related to more than one other person. Everybody got along with no family dynamics to worry about any everybody brought wine My least favorite one was when I was in the hospital due to a car accident and my step-sister tried to sneak me out to cook She called and asked why there were apples in the fridge and it went downhill from there. My family wound up in a restaurant and I got hospital food
Quite a few years ago, my family had Thanksgiving dinner with my father, who was an Alzheimer's patient at the VA Hospital. It was bittersweet. There was a small meeting room on the ward, and the staff set up a few tables for families of patients, that chose to come and have Thanksgiving dinner with their family member. (Families called ahead of time to reserve, so they knew it was just 4 families coming.). So, out of a ward of about 30-40 patients, only 4 families came. We felt that being with my father on that day, was the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
We were all so grateful to the staff at the VA for trying their best to make the dinner pleasant. They were always so busy there, and yet they took the time to type up a Thanksgiving dinner menu with a holiday picture on it, and placed it at each plate. They had cheerful Thanksgiving paper tablecloths and napkins. Their food service dept., also did their best to provide a nice dinner. I'll never forget the wonderful staff at that VA Hospital.
