I knew it was a southern Pa. thing but never realized it went all the way down your way. Some of the diner menus by the Pa Md border are a bit different. Combination of southern and Pa Dutch. Grits, pickles and sauerkraut with everything:eek:
Yup, stuff comes between that border. Southern PA is closer than even other parts of the state are. Only takes us about 30 minutes to get to the Mason Dixon line. We've got the Dutch/German food culture to a certain degree, and some southern Pennsylvanians eat steamed crabs.

Cranberry sauce comes out of a can? You don't make it yourself? When did this start happening?

This goes back to my childhood. One year, my mother made 'whole" cranberry sauce and everyone hated it. After that, she went back to the can of jellied cranberry sauce. I've been eating that kind ever since. I also like the challenge of getting it out of can in one piece--takes practice! :p

Actually, a few times (as an adult) I did make cranberry sauce at home--came out pretty good, actually. But there's just something about the canned, jelly kind that I love. :hungry:

:hungry: What fillings are you going to put in them? And how do you get to your house again? I think we can make it by 4:30! ;)
80 east exit with lots of trees go all the way to the big grey rock not the big brown rock. you may just make it if you leave now LOL BTW my house doesn't show up on GPS so trees and rocks are how you find it. Just a simple mashed potato and sauted filling

Nice directions, kind of like the ones I would give someone when they were trying to find the house I grew up in. And the filling sounds great. I loved the pierogies in Poland at the Food and Wine booth. They were served with caramelized onions and kielbasa. I think they were the Mrs. T's brand, but it was still good. I'm sure the homemade ones would be even better. :) A friend of mine her mother-in-law makes pierogies with lots of different fillings and most sound good except for the one she fills with potato and raisin. :hungover:

Good things and bad things..

The good.. Matthew degraded to Class 1 storm And seems to be quickly dissipating.
Not many deads and most of them were caused by second and third party stuff (tree falls, hearattacks..etc..)

The bad torrential and deadly floods in the carolinas, and the expectation of Matthew returning to hot waters later on by absorbing the remnants of Nicole.

Not sure what airlines, but they all had travel insurance. But, insurance doesn't cover every situation. The guy traveling to Turkey, his insurance refused the claim, because all other reservations were still valid. He still COULD have stayed in his hotel, and he would have had a flight back...the fact that he couldn't GET there, didn't matter, because he could have driven or taken a bus, or flown out of somewhere else so he could use those reservations. Since those reservations were not canceled, it did not count. With the choir, I think there was something like...insurance didn't cover weather conditions or something....only things like, if you got sick and couldn't go. Makes me think it couldn't have been very good insurance. What's the point of having insurance in case the trip falls through if it doesn't cover anything? Insurance companies are really good at avoiding claims though. If they can string it out long enough, the statute of limitations invalidates the claim. In 2010, on our way back from Disney, our flight out of Orlando was delayed 7 hours. Instead of flying out at 5, we flew out at Midnight. We had just left Orlando when we were supposed to be landing and we had a short time to catch a connection in Amsterdam. Because we were 7 hours late, we obviously missed that connection. It wasn't our fault and the airline had a responsibility to get us to our final destination, and there were so many people on that same flight with the same connection that we missed, they would have had to set up a completely new flight for all of us, and that was too expensive, so they took us by bus which took 3 times longer. Things took so much longer that they were obligated to feed us because they would not let us stop in Amsterdam for food. They provided sandwiches on the bus, but it took us so long to get our luggage, which they temporarily lost, that they had already given our food to other passengers...so we got nothing. My kids were 2 and 4, starving, exhausted, and cranky. So we had a delayed flight, no food, and lost luggage (we didn't get our car seat back for several days) and a broken suitcase, and the ONLY compensation they gave us was a $15 food voucher for the airport food court in Orlando while we waited for our delayed flight. We put in a claim and it was denied. Legally, they were supposed to compensate us, but somehow they got out of it...they just kept denying appeal after appeal until the time was up and the claim was no longer valid. That's how they make their money. People get tired of chasing after them and give up, or they stall until the time is up.
wow, seems everything went wrong..and what the hell.. How nasty of that airline for not sending a new flight to get all of you.. by bus? really???

I'm starting to work out more (after 9 months of putting off my New Years Resolution), and I would rather be doing the Walt Disney/Universal workout plan, aka, walking nonstop around giant theme parks.
I'm doing a three week coast-to-coast version of that program in January. :D Until then, have to stick with working out here...

I'm fine, but, I also live on a much higher piece of land. To be honest, if the time comes that I have to be concerned about high water we will be having much bigger problems then just a hurricane. The ark would come in handy at that point.
As a follow-up... the rain has finally stopped and the wind has died down a whole lot. One of my daughters has been without power since 3pm with no indication of how long that will last. Other then that we have all done OK. Four storm related deaths here in NC up to this point.

I'm glad that you and your family are safe though and hopefully your daughter's power comes on soon.
