Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
So are all the restaurants in the resorts closed as well? Are these boxed lunches the only food available?

Food availability at the food courts greatly varied by resort and also by time of day. May of the resorts discounted their TS prices last evening. They'd run out of QS limited menu choices then offer the box $12.99 meal. (Twitter was a good source last night) Disney did attempt to replenish some choice through evening last night. The box meal on the other hand seemed to be a surprise. Closed until you took one. Most had a slice of meat and piece of cheese on two pieces of generic white all purpose bread. When the price comparisons were being made it came out to about $7 for the food in the box but minus the beverage that children get, milk, juice etc. so in the case of kids maybe $6. The food in the box couldn't be considered a QS credit and the price is what Disney World is getting ding'd for not for trying to feed all their guests, after all it was an emergency life safety event. Basically if you could get your hands on it by Disney's own price structure you payed around $5 for it all being in a styrofoam box.

I cannot fault Disney Resort Managers for the food availability or staff shortages. Those resorts were not designed to have every guest in those areas nearly at the same time, normally they are spread over 40 sq miles of dining venues. The pre packed boxes were actually a good solution to feeding the masses of guests. It is the over the top price for the same items normally available at Disney's own price structure. As example a whole apple is $1.69, 2 pieces of same bread for toast from bakery in morning $1.98, the cookie while maybe hitting the spot I fail to see how it is labeled Gourmet given how yummy Disney Gourmet cookies are in the Bakery of Disney QS resorts that can be your dessert with a QS meal. So the only complaint I have is with who ever priced that box of emergency food.

Thank you.

We will be having turkey, stuffing, veg, gravy, 10 lbs of mashed potatoes ... pretty much the same thing y'all will eat next month. Minus the marshmallow/sweet potato casserole thingy. We don't do that.

Are you going to make your special mashed potatoes, the ones with the cream cheese and in the crock pot? I made those after your raves and they are so yum! :hungry: I might have to make some this weekend now.

I want to like it because it is pretty, but I can't because there is snow in it. We were in the 40's to low 50's today, so that snow idea is hitting a little too close to home.
Mid to high 70's here today. It was absolutely glorious.

It's been a long time since I saw so many people Thanksgiving turkey shopping in shorts and capris.

It was in the low 70's yesterday and then the swing today to colder temps for the weekend. Next week it is supposed to be nicer again. All this talk about Thanksgiving, I really want turkey, stuffing and potatoes now.

Here too.
The green bean casserole with crispy fried onions (funyons?) - not so much.

Canadians are quite fond of Pillsbury crescent rolls. It's not really a holiday meal until you pop a tube or two of those.
We don't either. It's turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and sauerkraut. But no rolls. And definitely no casseroles. I eat the cranberry sauce and the turkey. When we have leftovers with the Hungry Jack mashed potatoes, I'll also eat the potatoes. Not the real ones, though.

Sauerkraut with Thanksgiving dinner? :hungover: Actually, that is my reaction to sauerkraut all the time. I make Uncle Ben's Original wild rice dish in place of green been casserole (unless my sister's family is coming over) then we have both.

Oh my. I can eat a whole can of sauerkraut almost any time! Especially, if it's the slightly sweeter kind with the caraway seeds in it... YUM...!!!!! :hungry:
