Since it was the first sea day, there wasn't much todo except relaxing and checking stuff from time to time.
We had breakfast at the small breakfast joint that is right in the central park. They have bagel sandwiches(3 types with a variety of stuff), Salads, Pre made Sandwiches, basic crepes, sweet bread, and juices.
Also one employee always made my day (did I tell you guys that I love when people smile?)
The employee, a chinese teenager looking, was very nice with us the whole trip and always had this mischievous smile that somehow made me happy.
And then my mom had to ruin it lol.. saying "ask her to marry you HAH!"
mooooooooooooooom stop ruining the moment! :|
After that, we went around the ship to know more, including going to the Casino area, other parts.. the flowrider. And we started to get the hang out of the coca cola freestyle machines.
While my mother was checking some handbags, I told her I would go to take some photos of the boardwalk.
\
The Boardwalk
The place is very good. Only sad that the icecream parlor was upcharge. The prices wernt that bad (still way too expensive compared to my country, at 3.5 USD the medium sized ball). In the other hand, I really was eyeing the hodgod stand that wasn't open yet.
The carousel, note the employee preparing the hotdog stand on the right.
Today was also the first day where they started to push the sales on everything. And announcing the clock sales for the day before St. Maarten.
My mom decided we should attend the seminary on how to buy stuff in St. Maarten. and the Jewel types we could buy.
We both agreed that it was horribly boring. I cant believe so many people were there lol. I'm not that kind of shopper.
Anyway we only lasted like 20 minutes before we were almost snoozing of boredom. As we were waiting for info about clocks. Turns out the "seminary" was 2 hours long and the clocks and watches were last. Mom was not amused.. so we left to roam around the ship.
After making a few rounds.. we decided it was time to Lunch. Since we eat pretty late compared to most Americans.. the windjammer wasn't that busy.
I mean, in general it was getting less crowded. So we were able to get a decent table this time.
Its kinda sad to say but the food at the windjammer was better some days compared to the main dinning room. There was also a very good variety of food. Despite having so many stations for food, the place was still packed with people and there was a few lines.
Employees were kinda forcing santizer in people's hands as they entered the restaurants. No surprise as some of them did not even wanted to use the hand sanitizers( or didnt know how to use them)!
We had a variety of different foods. My mother a bit more light as she was still feeling bad from that pizza on the first day. The sun and the huge walking didnt helped her. So she had light food.
My only complain about the windjammer (apart from the crowd). Is that the burger and hotdog breads are always cold and hard.
They have the burgers patties and sausages at very good temps. delicious fries.. but the bread? ewww
There were some really good combinations too. They had variety of dishes from different countries.
Anyway we left and we were checking our papers. We wanted to check out some of the dreamworks characters. They always appear either by the main pool or Royal promenade most of the time. And sometimes inside some bars for professional photos.
King Julein and his groupie.
The character suit was well done, and the cast member did also a good job in portray Julien's quirkyness.
They did a small dance with music and people lined up for the photo.
I have to say that they indeed do have problems. When people see the chars.. they just run to check the chars.. and they constantly get INFRONT OF YOU and block you. (note my photo above.. I was taking a photo and out of nowhere.. a person decides to (note all the empty space) go infront of me and take video. Same when parents were pushing their "precious" towards the characters who were mid dancing (dangerous anyone?) The good is that they apart from the dancers.. they always had 2 "bouncers" (big burly staff members in black suits) that put everyone in line and prevented things to go sour.
In other news.. King Julien's fabric is hella soft o_o
We also meet some awesome folks from Puerto Rico (who are heavy into cruising, they mentioning this was their second time on the Oasis and their 20th overall in Royal Caribbean with a few with Celebrity and Carnival.
Funnily was.. they were very into characters as well lol. We always end meeting each other when characters of Dreamworks were out.
I took the pleasure in taking better photos for them (as his camera broke down and only had a phone and older ipad cameras, which were terrible). Plus the staff do not know how to take photos ( or do it on purpose so the professionals could charge you lol. Interestingly. Unlike Disney.. the professional photographers WILL NOT take your camera to shot, even if you have the same model and brand. one of the dancers will take the photo. Hence why I think they are forced to take photos with their camera to charge you later on)
After this. We went our separated ways. I decided to take a pizza while my mother decided to take a small nap as we waited for the night show. Which was FROZEN IN TIME.
But before that... my mother's favorite Dreamworks char.. Gloria!
So after done of our nap, we got ready and we went to get dinner in the main dinning room.
The crowds finally cleared a bit and werent a nuthouse as the first day. We still had to wait a few minutes until they finally assigned us a room.
Funnily, the chinese girl of the morning coffee. Worked here as well to assign people to their rooms (they really looked understaffed).
Also I'm pretty sure that she was starting her contract. Because she sometimes had no clue where the tables were lol.
We had an acceptable meal, only complain was my mother's food which wasnt that good.
She also ordered a small tequila. It was funny to see her trying to explain in english a "Caballito" (thats what they call in Mexico for a tequila "shot", the spanish translation of caballito is "little horse" ).
I dont remember the order of the foods of each day, but pretty sure today I had the Lobster Bisque, the caesar salad with extra cheese on the side and the Roasted Beef chateubriand.
The steak was nice, and dont know why my steak had huge grease veins and on the corner. Was tasty! the sauce was a bit weak for my taste.
I remember my mother again took it slow and ordered mostly fish. Not sure exactly what. But she said the fish had absolutely no flavour, leaving her disappointed. I told her she could order something else but refused.
After that, we went to the other side of the ship towards the Studio B. Which we were confused. Because it was very close to us (back of the ship area). So we had to walk from the Opal theater again back to the front of the ship towards the rear passing thru the casino.
We reached Frozen on Time.
The "writer" and his desks during the intermissions of each song. This one was about the soldier.
Despite having reservations, the place was PACKED to the seams. There were even people standing.
We managed to find a very angled spot (which had some obstructions from a pillar) and we watched the show.
The show itself is not Frozen related. But a collection of songs and stories (on ice) of the writer Hans Christian Andersen.
It contained segments of The Ugly duckling, the emperors new clothes, the little mermaid, the snow queen , and the steadfast tin soldier (Where a "painter" who was using sand to paint on top of a white scanner that sent the image to a projector screen. )
The little mermaid segment.
I did not lung my big camera to this show as photography was supposed to be forbidden. Hence bad quick photos with cellphone.
I have to say this show is AWESOME. Its definitively a must see if you board the Oasis.
They pull some really NASTY stunts that are downright dangerous. Particularly in the emperor's new clothes segment.
They indeed leave you in awe!
And thats it for Today!
Tomorrow is Sea Day 2 (September 5)
