Thanks for the information, I have asked many people , no one likes their Dr. We have AARP, but they aren't much help. Those who advertise get the most likes. My friends next door, who belong to church, baptist don't like their own Dr. When, we moved to Denver....I asked my former Dr. for a good Dr. out here. He said he couldn't recommend anyone, as Denver has a very poor, system of Dr's. We looked for years , to find this gem. I'm so unhappy to have to find another Dr. I need my meds. and it has to be a quick process. I don't make these decisions quickly. Just another life's problems. Gosh, I don't know what to do. Hubby is very upset too. That's lousey about the doctor who retired. I've often thought that finding a good doctor is like finding a good car mechanic--once you luck out and find a very good one, you stick with him for years.
Some places will notify patients when a doctor moves on to another practice, or retires. I always felt that was the decent thing to do (if, for no other reason, you have paid money for services, and were a customer of the doctor for many years). That's right--it's a business, pure and simple, and good customers deserve respect. However, not all places notify patients and you only find out when you call to schedule an appt. That's very frustrating and quite a let down.
Just wondering if you've asked around to maybe a church group, for example, in your area--if others might refer you to a doctor that they like. Have you ever looked up doctor reviews on local sites like Yelp? (I wouldn't solely rely on Yelp, but sometimes you can pick up a tip here or there.) Are you a member of AARP? I wonder if they have a members' forum where you might be able to ask others for recommendations?

Thanks, we were so upset with this, we are trying to find someone that will be as kind as our last Dr. These people are hard to find. We are looking where to turn, I'm sure we will find someone. I love your kind words. We really bonded with this Dr. but, the practice own's the patients. The Dr's. can;t notify the patients. That's a terrible system out here. I would like to know it this is the system in the U.S. I'm thinking of moving.Well, looking at this from an objective viewpoint, instead of going crazy trying to find another wonderful doctor right away (you said you'll need to get some prescriptions fairly quickly), why not pick just an interim doctor (you don't have to tell him or her that--just someone to tie you over). Then, you and Mr. Bets can take your time to find someone better when you're not as rushed, and can devote more time to it. Also, you may have to travel a bit of a distance for someone better suited to your needs. Really sorry to hear you're both going through this. You're such nice people, and this makes me sad. You deserve better.
I thought, that going to this practice for over 17 years, would give us notification of our Dr's retirement. The Dr. can't do that under the rules of this practice. This seems very sneaky to me. They seem to be hoping people will stay with the owner's. But, in my opinion; owner's who won't tell patients their Dr. has retired, is very shady. This situation sounds like a pain in the butt. It was pretty lousy that you weren't informed when your Dr. was leaving. I had two Dr. relocate on me and I was sent a letter each time, one had even put some recommendations of who to go to. My dog's vet is leaving the practice and he called us to tell us about his move, which I thought was super classy (we really liked him).
I think Minnie gave some good info, maybe just find someone for the quick fix of getting the meds you need and then continue to shop around. Who knows, maybe and hopefully, you will find someone you like right away.
I've thought similar for years...but more how many Scotches they had when making the decisions.
Oddly for me my idea of a dream fun ride is a Jeep Wrangler. So not practical yet I want one and I'd prefer a nice older one over the newer models because of the engine switch. I don't know what the draw is but I've wanted one for a long time.
not a fan lolOh yea, other than the hot rod blood in me, I've always also wanted a Jeep, too. Somethin' I can go out in and get all muddied up in and then just hose everything off, including myself...!!!!!![]()
