Coldest day of the season so far here.
With windchill, it was -29C, which is approx. -20F.
I was out numerous times today for brief periods, and my cheeks and ears are bright, burning red.

A lot of the schools wisely cancelled outdoor recess and lunch periods today.
My niece lives in Fairbanks and she was in - 39 degree weather. I would seriously cry if I had to endure anything negative.

I love this troll. Every year we go, I take a picture of my son with him. It's sad to see how much he has grown, he is now six feet.

They always build snow days into the calendar here. It means that it's rare that they have to tack on days at the end of the year.

When I was a freshman in high school, we actually had the state forgive days. Remember "snowmagedon" when everything, including the government, shut down? Yeah, two weeks straight of no school. And that wasn't the only time that we didn't go. The state waived days for most counties in the state because otherwise, we would have been there until July.

I also recall in grade school and high school, the town automatically built in "snow days" for us; I think it was 5 days. If we went beyond 5 days, they added the extra days for us to make up in June. One year, we didn't have a lot of snow, and we actually had 2 days left out of the "snow days", so we got out of school 2 days earlier for summer vacation in June! :)
