When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I already live with the mosquitos and we've had more hurricanes here in the past few years than in Florida.

As for the gators, I live with deer, snakes, fox, groundhogs...gators are just one more thing.
We have packs of coyotes less than 100 metres outside our bedroom window every night. I hear them traversing west to east, and then a few hours later, east to west.

In the summer/fall, we also have mosquitos, and nasty black flies; which actually take a chunk out of your flesh when they bite.

On the plus side, we don't have hurricanes, and seldom have earthquakes or tornadoes.

It's 15 degrees outside. Feels like 5.

I don't know how all of you who live further north deal with these temps because it's warmer here than it is for many of you and I am definitely not dealing well with it.

Just dress warmly for it. I'm always amazed by the people who've lived here in New England all their lives, and they still don't know how to layer up properly for the bitter cold.

It's kind of amazing when they went with one low flat price instead of sales and everybody stopped going. I didn't understand that. It was like a sale everyday and prices were cheaper than other stores too.

From a financial report I watched on CNBC some months ago, it was precisely that ill-fated marketing scheme that contributed to their serious downturn.

No, everything came down on New Year's Day. I get sad seeing it after that, as it only reminds me that Christmas is over and won't be back for a whole year . . . :(
Orthodox Christmas was just yesterday, and today is a very sentimental day for me, so the stuff all stays up at least until the 9th. The year my dad was ill, it stayed up until March some time.

Maybe this weekend. Maybe not. :)

Are your trees real or artificial? (I think you have at least one artificial one that you bought with pre-strung lights, if I recall correctly.) Anyway, my tree is always real, so after about 3 weeks or so, it needs to be put out for the trash men to put into the chipper; otherwise it will eventually drop tons of needles all over the floor and is a fire hazard once it dries out. So that's part of the reason why it gets put away on New Year's Day.

@Wrangler-Rick , how do you care for the horses when it gets down to below zero weather? Do they go out as much and run around, or do you keep them more inside (similar to dogs when it's extremely low temps, except for maybe Mals, Huskies, and Samoyeds, who were bred for colder climates). Do they eat more to keep warm, and do you warm up their water? Do they like hot chocolate with marshmallows melted in? :)

@donaldtoo , how are Ranger and Belle in your somewhat colder weather? Do they enjoy it, or are they hot weather dogs? My dog is a wuss; he wants no part of colder weather at all. Basically, he just likes to stay inside with us and get into mischief. He gets all out of sorts when one of us is not home; he'll often wait and stare at the front window until we come home. Then he gets all excited again, runs around and acts double crazy to celebrate that the pack is all here together! :joyfull:

Yes, my tree is artificial. I don't like real ones, primarily because of the mess and the fire hazard.
Lucky for me, I am allergic to pine sap!

Right now they are outside, but we will bring them all inside tonight because it will be below 0 with strong winds. They do eat more to stay warm! We put out 1,000 pound round bales of grass hay for them to eat and there is a heated waterer outside for them. When we bring them inside, they each have their own stall with a heated water bucket and they get flakes of hay to munch on. We never tried hot chocolate with them, but they are always trying to drink our coffee! ;)

Holly is all of 7 lbs, and more than 12 years old. She is not a fan of these temps.
Unlike in the summer, when she has to investigate every square inch of our large yard for "just the right spot"; in this weather, ANYWHERE will do!

I'm not sure if this has already been asked - how many horses do you have? And what do you do with them?
