O.k. So without looking up the word, how many of you know what a fortnight is?

At work today, an elderly executive sent out an email to his meeting group, and told them that they would not be meeting every Friday at 2:00 anymore. Starting January 16th, they would then switch to a fortnight.

Well, one person in that group asked me about the word, and although I had heard of it, I didn't have a clue what it meant. We then proceeded to ask about 10 more people (from different professions) and not one of them could come up with the word's meaning! Ha!

We finally looked it up and it's 14 days, (two weeks). (Forsooth, none of us were up on our old English! ;) :p )

In a sad turns of events: Covert Affairs got cancelled. The reason: too expensive. The other reason: last in 18-34 category. I was one of them watching so I did my share.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

A lot of British words have made it into the Canadian lexicon, which is a roundabout way of saying:
I knew. I knew.

Sorry to hear your show got cancelled; it's frustrating when you really like something and it gets cancelled. :(

And, if it doesn't score well in the 18-34 demographic, it drowns in the water. For some reason, sponsors think that 18-34 year olds are the only ones spending money out there.

Which is funny, because I would think that in a down economy, 18-34's have the least to spend.
Under 18's are spending Mommy and Daddy's money, and 35+ are usually well on their way to being established - ie. student loans paid off, career established, house and car already purchased.

My guess is they're targeting the spenders with discretionary income, and whatever market research they've conducted, it must be the 18-34 group.

But, I think they're overlooking the lion's share of the population.

All I can say is that ever since I broke open my piggy bank when I was 5, I've just had this overwhelming sense of euphoria every time I walk into a store and there's money in my purse, ripe for spending!!:D

Being Canadian is often an unfair advantage.

Just ask @Goofyernmost. He'll vouch for me. He always does.
I don't doubt that it is unfair, but, I hesitate to call it an advantage. Yet another example of Canadians using another country's language to make themselves sound smarter. Fortnight, really? What? Two weeks is to complicated for you guys? When you go to Disney for two weeks is it called a Fortnight Holiday? Still shackled to the Crown Jewels, eh! :cautious: The only three things that are truly Canadian would be the words, eh, aboat and Molson's. Even Molson's came over to the good side when it merged with Coor's.

in other news, tried to purchase tickets for the parks.
Cochlear insists that there are lower priced tickets for those going to the convention. The website says no, neither the phone reps.. who to believe?
also they said the coronado springs resort is packed.. and they made the Animal Kingdom resort the overflow for the convention. I read that one lady attending asked for the change to animal kingdom and they did.
I asked(via coworker of mine) and they said its impossible.
I am not amused...
