Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I've been on numerous vacation trips in my life. Never once cleaned a dining room, including windows, prior to a trip. (Come to think of it o_O , I don't recall cleaning a dining room or windows upon my return, either.) Rest assured, you have no competition whatsoever from me, in your quest to win the Good Housekeeping Award! :joyfull:

I try to clean my house before I leave on vacation. I really do not like coming home to messy though windows have never been part of the check off list. We generally have someone in and out of the house while we are gone especially in the winter to run some water etc make sure no pipes freeze, furnace works. Plus if we leave Walt behind someone is always looking after him.

That was my mom's reasoning too. I just don't like coming back to a messy house or having to do a lot of housework when I come back. When we went to Europe last summer we had the wood flooring redone in 2 rooms and when we did Disneyland at the end of December in 2015 the kitchen was redone, and it really bothered me that I would come home to cleaning up and unpacking things. Actually, there are a lot of kitchen things I packed up that I haven't unpacked yet. So I guess I don't really need them.

Over the last 5 years I've really downsized the amount of kitchen/dining stuff I accumulated over the years.

Thanks, you won't believe this. Our air pressure has changed so many times today, it's driving my ears crazy. So I was cooking in the kitchen. I heard this really loud pop. Hubby heard it back in the bedroom. I thought it came from the refrigerator. Yup, the lid on my canned biscuits blew it's top. Biscuits and a mess everywhere. Glad I didn't have my head in the fridge at the same time. At least I have a very clean refrigerator, now!:D
the pressure made the can pop?

Thats how it was in january lol, except we had one day with very low crowds outside because of rain.

Besides, like I said before.. You know MK is busy when Stitch breaks the 30 min wait barrier.

I can't say I'm not without understanding for the corporations but I can't wrap my mind around the age discrimination that it appears to be at first blush. I wish we would just pick an age that is considered an adult and stick with it. This military 18, drinking 21, hotel 21-25, rent car 24, car insurance break at 25 etc etc I find the entire practice annoying. And if you do something illegal as a teen you can be charged as an adult. Really hard for me to wrap my brain around. :in pain:
I blame lawyers and legislation.

I'm doing my pretrip cleaning on Friday, so there is less time for hubby to mess it up. On Sunday morning I will changed the sheets so that when we come back it will be clean sheet night.
It's part pretrip and part fall cleaning. Almost as soon as we get back school starts, I'll have tons and tons of pics to sort through(3 cameras are going with us), a mountain of laundry (I'll be able to keep up at the condo but not after), fall clothes to pull out, and a very, very, very long TR to write. I won't have time for much for extra things the first few weeks we get back

Nothing irks me more than asking for my size and staff coming out saying sorry we don't have that size carrying a couple boxes, but we have a 6 and a 8 1/2??? Would you like to try them on?

THAT is the most insulting thing a salesperson can do, and it's been going on ever since I remember, even as a kid. But as you get older, you don't have any tolerance for outright stupidity like that. The last salesperson who pulled that on me, got an earful: "My shoe size has not changed in the few minutes that you went to the storeroom to look for the size I asked for. Why waste my time and yours by bringing out sizes that are NOT mine?" Then, I walked out of there . . .

While shopping for clothes for the trip I saw a dress in the store's window, went inside and asked if it came in my size. The sales person said "let me check" and came back and said sorry no but try this on. My ds and I could both fit in it:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I know practically nothing about home maintenance because I've never owned a home. So why do you "drain" a hot water heater and how do you drain it?
The night before we go we shut the power to the tank( we can live with cold water just for the morning LOL. Then right before we leave we shut the breaker to the well pump and run the system dry. It only takes a few minutes and my dh goes to the hot water tank and opens the drain valve after the pipes are clear just to make sure it's empty.

That's a smart idea. I've heard horror stories over the years about floods, broken pipes, etc., when people have taken off for a few weeks on vacation, and come home to a water disaster in the house. Yikes.
