I've been on numerous vacation trips in my life. Never once cleaned a dining room, including windows, prior to a trip. (Come to think of it o_O , I don't recall cleaning a dining room or windows upon my return, either.) Rest assured, you have no competition whatsoever from me, in your quest to win the Good Housekeeping Award! :joyfull:

Ryka are supposed to be very good. I've found for myself, that New Balance are the best for me; I buy the more expensive models in NB. They're my favorites! :)

That was my mom's reasoning too. I just don't like coming back to a messy house or having to do a lot of housework when I come back. When we went to Europe last summer we had the wood flooring redone in 2 rooms and when we did Disneyland at the end of December in 2015 the kitchen was redone, and it really bothered me that I would come home to cleaning up and unpacking things. Actually, there are a lot of kitchen things I packed up that I haven't unpacked yet. So I guess I don't really need them.

I have moved onto high end Asics running shoes. I wear model Gel-Kayano's This particular model has great arch support and super cushion in both the heel and ball of foot. Due to the good arch support your foot does not move around in the shoe which causes the blisters. I went down one model level in my Asics once, my 20 something DD wears those. They work for her but I need more support and cushion. These shoes Retail around $165 but can get them for $99-$120 by buying the last model vs the newest design.

They last about 6 months with me wearing them almost every single day. While pricey they are worth every penny if you've ever had feet that get sore from walking. I do miss the days long ago when I could wear sandals into the parks. I can wear Keen's or Merrill sandals for a portion of the day because they also have good cush and support however not all day in the parks. These are in my closet and I love both of them.

Not only do you have good taste in cheese, but shoes as well! ;) I have been an Asics fan for years, and my Keen sandals are probably the best shoe investment I've made. They are a little heavy, but really supportive to wear walking. I originally bought them for hiking in Hawaii because I knew we would be going in water with them too.

It really helps to talk with people who know their shoes and for them to ask some good questions, even quality shoes are not created equally.

The Merrills I also have have great support and have a suede type inner footing so they are cool on your feet more than the Keens. Also Merrill's have some cute styles that dress up nicely.

The trick is to find something that you like, by trying on a slew of different brands and sizes--don't forget that sizes are not all the same from one brand to another. One time, I bought a pair of shoes in two sizes and found that my feet were different--I kept one larger size for my right foot, and one smaller for my left. It stunk that I had to buy two pairs of shoes, but I liked the style and this was the only way I could get a proper fit.

You mentioned Merrills above, and they have a definite fan base. I also know a woman who recently bought a pair and hated them. She thought they were comfortable when she tried them on but after a day of walking, she hated them and eventually threw them out. (She spent a lot of money on them as well. These were not sneakers--they were clogs.)

Yeah, clogs are a totally different, they don't really fit into any category, much like flip flops that make you hold the footware onto your foot weirdly.

Merrill's just like my Asics come in all sorts for different activities. I have their dressier sandles, if you can call that that dressy casual anyhow. I also have Merrill winter snow boots. They are suede but waterproof, very warm and plus they are cute. Still the inners have a great deal of support and cushion.

My favorite pairs of work shoes are my L. L. Bean leather slides. They're open back, but fully covered tops and sides (I have a pair in brown and a pair in black). They are so comfy! I just wear dark socks to match the shoe color (and I usually wear slack suits to work) so you can't even see that they're open backed slides. I wear them year round at work. :happy:

Yep, serious close quarters, never really knowing what might happen next, not knowing if you're gonna' even make it home alive.
The USS Lexington is a really interesting museum. In one section below decks, they had some pretty graphic photos of the aftermath of a kamikaze attack (I believe from the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philipines).
Sobering all the way around, indeed.
