Yea, not sure what that's about.
We always had plenty of staff/all the teachers on those trips, as well as plenty of parent volunteers.
As I've posted many times before, we too always found many other ways to support learning, but, we also enjoyed all those trips. :)
Our local High School Marching Band has been invited to NYC for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. The staff and higher ups at the school are all excited about it. It is an honor. All the parents I have talked to just roll their eyes and struggle to say, "do you have any idea how much this is going to cost us to send our kid(s) there?" The point... there's always a negative side.
Yes but it may be due for it's first change on our ride home. It's free so we'll do it before just to make sure it gets done on time. It's also getting a bath while I'm getting my nails done the day before we leave.
You make the idea of washing your car sound like an event? Isn't that something that is done regularly anyway? Just so you know, there is no more predictable way to encourage bad weather then to wash your car. That's when you get mud storms. The weather channel has planted a chip in cars and as soon as they see that one is washed, they send bad weather in your direction.

Thanks!! We were EXHAUSTED by the time we made it to our lodging in Wyoming last night. We had been traveling for over 48 hours straight. We got up at 4:30 Sunday morning to fly to Chicago, then had a connecting flight to Orlando. It had been 25 hours once we got to our hotel. We slept for about 6 hours and then got up again to fly from Orlando to Denver, then we rented a car and made the 6 hour drive up to Gillette, Wyoming. We got in at about 10:20 pm, which is 6:20 Dutch time...so we got in and went straight to bed. My ds, who is usually the first one up in the morning, usually at 6, slept in the car, then went to bed as soon as we got to our lodging, and he was the last one up this morning, probably around 9. TIRED!

Wow that sounds exhausting! It is kind of funny that you had to go to Orlando and then you will be back there. Get lots of rest and enjoy your time out there. Oh and this may seem like an odd question but did you manage to get any popcorn in Chicago?

@Goofyernmost we have a few day before the trip traditions. First and most important is my mani-pedi appointment first thing in the morning:) While I'm doing that the guys all go to get their hair cut and get the car a bath. After the car bath my dh puts some Rain X stuff on the windsheild. Silly little thing that make the day go faster until it's time to load up the car:joyfull:

We have some great educators under our belt in our district. Paid in the upper 10% of the state. They are mostly mastered which we 100% fund and we rate A+ in our state. They educate our students well. Still they have their quirks.

Professionals will do nothing beyond the physical classroom without drama. Don't attend science fairs, art or music assemblies. Lots of drama, always in our boardroom with issues. All of us on the board do not work in education and know the above and beyond the job description so it is difficult to relate to all the 'issues' that we all cope with in our careers. Field trips are beyond their coping skills. My kids being 5 grades apart my DS with the old school staff was afforded so many educational experiences from museums to plays along with visiting a working farm. My DD had a new influx of staff got to see films and slides of the same for her in school field trips. So not the same.

Our staff will not greet students at door or walk a classroom to the bus without an additional stipend. Will not go to the library with their classroom. It is a trade off. They do their jobs well in the classroom but refuse to step out of that sole responsibility. We hire additional staff to release the students and greet them etc. There is only X amount of dollars in the budget. It comes out of the extras the classrooms use to be supplied and the extras for sports, art and music. We always have a balanced budget. Ultimately it is the balanced budget and well educated students that prevails. The outside the classroom experiences have mostly disappeared and when they do it isn't pleasant and very moody. I chose to avoid. I can do without the quips all day long.

That does sounds like a lot of drama. We all are assigned a duty, like lunchroom, bus, morning hallway supervision, it is just the way it is. We are a small rural district so it is always all hands on deck. I like going on field trips with the kids, I don't balk at that at all. I do get annoyed that one colleague never goes on trips though. I wouldn't want to go on overnight trips as I don't like sharing rooms with people I'm not close to. And I don't feel comfortable sharing a room with kids.

Some people have told me to plan a Disney science field trip. No thanks! Disney is my escape from work!
