Hahaaa...!
My folks have a pay-as-you-go cell phone that is on all the time when they are away from their landline at home. They don't text.
My pop is very proficient when it comes to PCs, as he worked for IBM for 27 years, but his career was in regards to mainframe computers.
He still has to get assistance from my IT (at the state Capitol) youngest bro every now and then. :)
Our phones are pay as you go. For as little as we use them that makes the most sense. It will also teach my baby how to budget his time on one.:)

Okay it's 2AM and I am wide awake. What the -----??!?!?!!? Of course, tomorrow being my last day in the office, what are the going to do if I come in late? Fire me? ;)

My heart goes out to you. At one point in my life, I was laid off from a job I had for 16 years. A whole bunch of us were shown the "door" in two waves (I was in the 2nd round).

Eventually, life goes on and new opportunities present themselves. Better days will soon be ahead.

Well, my last day at ICM is about to happen. After 19 years, I can't deny that I feel like I've been bit by a bus. I know I should concentrate on the new opportunity in front of me, and it may end up being amazing, but at this moment, I think this Ben Folds song sums up exactly the situation happening to me - just replace Mr. Jones with Mr. Thomas, and it is almost exactly the same scenario. Anyone who has ever been the victim of corporate downsizing should be able to relate :( :

It is sad to be leaving somewhere you've been for so long, but hopefully you will love the next job too.

Happy birthday! Sorry I missed it. Here is a little "cake" I made you. :)

Thanks for the "cake".

More random musings and observations:

The worst part of not being super familiar with a park's layout is not knowing where the bathrooms are.

Speaking of bathrooms, there are too few and they are too small.

Crowd control at WDW is better by a long shot.

DL's Splash Mountain is nowhere near as good as WDW's. You go too fast to look at anything, there are parts where there's nothing to look at, Brer Fox must've had a drink from the fountain of youth in between building this one and the WDW version, and Brer Rabbit just looks pathetic.

Naples in DTD and Via Nappoli are run by the same group, yet Naples is WAY better (albeit still overpriced). Naples has way more other dishes, including an incredible lasagna. They also have the usual overpriced pizza, but the menu was much more extensive.

If seeing fireworks during wildfire season, plan for more than one night. If conditions are too breezy, they won't show the fireworks due to the increased fire risk. They've been cancelled at least twice since we've been here.

We did Grizzly River Run. We planned to do it and head straight back to the room. I wore a bathing suit under my shorts along with a rash guard. I was the driest person on the raft. I went back and jumped in the pool just to cool off.

Portable power packs are your friends.

Say what you will about MBs; they make the entrance process MUCH faster.

I don't know about WDW, but here, the metal detectors are not just for show. We've also seen police dogs around the main entrances.

Luigi's is just about the cutest ride ever.

The seats on Jumpin' Jellyfish are oddly shaped. They have a piece in the middle of the seat that those who have a Y chromosome should be careful of. :in pain::cyclops:

For this trip, I am my family's reigning champion of TSM and Astro Blasters.

Speaking of Astro Blasters, while the effects are better than Space Ranger Spin, there are too few targets in each room.

I agree with you about the bathrooms, there are too few sinks too. I think Naples is really good too. And I though your comment about jumping jellyfish was spot on, my husband doesn't like that thing in the seat and now won't ride the ride. So I laughed when you mentioned it!

As for security, we have see a lot of officers and more WDW security wandering the parks. Often there are dogs out front too. Only in the morning at MK did everyone have to go through metal detectors otherwise it is random screening.

I don't have a problem with keeping my phone on and handy. All I have to do is think about how bad a dead body looks and smells after a few days. I want to be found quickly. Maybe he should be reminded.
Yes, well, my dad seems to think he's invincible. Even BEFORE his strokes, I was talking to him, saying maybe it would be a good idea for him to at least move into town. Just get an apartment somewhere so that he would have neighbors to look in on him every day and make sure he's ok, and maybe he could get meals on wheels or something. He said he had numerous friends who call every few days to check on him and that they all call different days, so he's checked on every day. I said that if the timing was off and someone had called just before he fell or something, it would be several days before they called again. And most of the people who call him don't keep trying if they don't get him at home. They wait a few days and try again. So it would still be days. I asked what would happen if he fell, since he has bad knees. Oh, no problem, he has a phone right by the bed. He'd just call someone. Ok, what if you don't fall right by the bed? Well, I usually have my mobile phone on me. Ok, what if you haven't just fallen, but had a stroke or heart attack and you can't call? Well, if I feel off or the weather's bad, I can go stay with friends. (which he didn't do, I might add. He had a series of strokes and wouldn't even let a friend take him to the doctor to see what was going on much less leave his ranch when he was "feeling off". I don't know what "feeling off" entails, but I would think, in general, not having feeling in one half of the body for 30 minutes and then not being able to walk well for 3 days would be included. But he had it several times and never did a thing about it.) He just doesn't want to admit that he can't be as independent as he used to be or would like to be. He'd rather have a stroke in the hallway and lie there for days than move into an apartment where someone had to check on him or even turn his darn phone on! And I checked, in Wyoming, a person has the right to live independently as long as they are not a danger, so I can't really do anything about it.

He doesnt get the concept? or he just thinks having the cellphone on is a nuisance/waste?
He pretty much thinks of it as for him to reach someone else if he needs them....not for anyone else to be able to get a hold of him, too. And he thinks the battery will die if he has it on for more than a few minutes. So if he needs to call me, he'll turn it on, call, then turn it off. So if I'm too slow getting to the phone to answer, I can't call him back because he's already turned the phone off. Or if I hear of something in my hometown, like the tornado in 2005 that wiped out half the buildings in town, I can't call to make sure he's not lying under a pile of rubble. I have to call friends and see if they've seen or heard from him since whatever disaster happened. With the tornado, he wasn't supposed to be there...he was supposed to be in Kansas at a reunion, so I wasn't worried...UNTIL my cousin emailed me to say he had never shown up and did I know where he was. So I ended up putting a desperate plea on FB asking if anyone had seen him or heard from him and finally someone went out to check on him. He had slept through the tornado, which must not have come too close to the house, but the winds ripped the roof off of his trailer and the hail had broken all the windows. So he had to go buy a new trailer house as it was a total loss, but HE was fine, just oblivious. But that's the kind of thing that the phone would be handy for...I could just call him directly. The tornado had knocked out all the telephone and power lines so I couldn't get him on the land line. They got the lines in town up and running, but dad is 20 minutes out of town, so they do the towns first and the ranchers when they get to it. Having a cell phone on would have meant I could call directly instead of asking friends. He didn't know to let me know he was ok because he didn't even realize there had been a tornado that caused me to worry.
