All week the stories on the news were about the long lines at airport security. They kept saying be at least three hours early. So, we got up at 5:30 to get my son and his gf on the plane to LA. They got packed, and we got them to the airport by 7. We dropped them in the garage by the elevator. Before we even got back to AoA, to pack our stuff to drive home, they called to let us know they were already through security. That was like 20 minutes from garage through security. I don't know if it was because they were so early or because it was Sunday. Either way, they didn't have to stand in line for three hours. I did have a hard time driving home after going to bed so late and getting up so early. Did anyone there last week have to wait an extra long time at the airport?
I would love to know this. We arrive at DW on Wednesday. Don't know squat about our airport, except it was on the news, we have very long lines.

No, I was extremely lucky. For whatever reason, I was TSA precleared for both inbound and outbound flights. It was a breeze!!

Bets, be sure to check your boarding pass when you print it at home, the day prior to your flight. It you and Mr. Bets are as lucky as I was, you'll see a (TSA pre and a checkmark next to it), in the top right-hand corner, I think it was.

Did you just return? (I came back Weds. night.) Although the heat was high in the afternoons, the mornings weren't too bad for the most part, and I didn't think the humidity was an issue until Weds. Anyway, I hate heat and I always get out of the sun every afternoon when I'm down there, too. So you're not the only one! :)
We leave after lunch. I need a nap then!

Thanks, we bought into pre check, but there is a long line at our airport for it. Word got out, and a lot of people bought in. It's way better than the regular line. The bag check line is always slow. We will print the boarding pass. But DIA is very busy. It's one of the busiest airports in the country. We have learned to wait our turn.;)

For anyone who's going to stay at AoA, I wanted to let you know that you don't have to use your band to get in the exit doors during the day in the Lion King Suites building 10. It was really nice to be able to just walk in without having to get the band at the correct angle. They do lock at night.
Anyone who wants one of the Lion King rooms closest to the food court, any room from 536 to 540 ground floor are good rooms. 536 or 537 would probably be best so you don't hear the exit doors opening and closing all the time.
Someone asked how long it takes to walk from the Mermaid rooms to the lobby. I walked from the laundry by the Mermaid pool to the lobby in 6 minutes. We were all the way down to the Mermaid end in The Lion King Suites and it took me 3 minutes to walk to the food court each morning. I walked through the hall instead of going out and walking on the curvy path. If you get in the building 8 of the Mermaid rooms, you will need a couple more minutes added to the time as that one is the last section. Ask for building seven or nine if you are staying in the Mermaid rooms.

Hubby grew up in Colorado and his family is still out there. I've been to DIA before and that place is mammoth, and spreads out for miles. (I used to prefer Denver Stapleton much better . . .)

Thanks for the information, we have stayed in the Mermaid rooms. It took us 15minutes to walk to the food court. We went outside, along the curvy path. Good to know about staying inside!

Yes, it's a big place. We were here when Stapleton was open. Much easier, and more compact. But, we have tons more air traffic now. Just like everywhere there is an "international" airport.

The red straps that you can see are to secure the wheelchair or ECV... the long one that you can see draped across the seat on the right is the over shoulder belt for the passenger. However, it only worked in a satisfactory fashion for those in a stationary chair whereas a person on a ECV was basically free standing with no other support other then the single belt. That left a lot of room for falling out of it. I'm not sure if it was state law, federal law or just something that our insurance company dictated, I really don't remember. I do remember hammering the procedure into the heads of new drivers over and over and over. A wheelchair passenger could refuse the belt and assume their own responsibility if injured, but, the ECV passenger was not given the choice.

The area just behind the driver is for the protection of the driver. Some of the wonderful public get enjoyment out of throwing things at the driver to get their attention. In many, cities, the drivers are completely closed in for their protection.

Isn't this sad that people just can't be respectful of others. Especially someone who is just trying to do their job.

Were you in building 8? The first time we stayed there, the day after Mermaid opened, we were in the very last room as far away from the lobby as you can go. We would drive the car to the parking lot by the bus pick-up, and then catch the bus to the parks. The only time I walked it, I made the mistake of walking on the outside on the sidewalk. That did take me 15 minutes. I never did that again.
The first time we stayed there the plantings were new. It looks so different now with all the lush plants and trees going up through the Lion King. I can't believe how quickly the plants grew and filled in what seemed like a barren area. That first trip was the only time I didn't take my own linens, which made packing so easy. It was also the only time we stayed in the standard rooms. We really need two bathrooms.
We have to get a suite for my daughter, her dad, and me and a Mermaid room for my son and his gf of 12 years. They have lucked up every time and gotten a king room. Someone said all the king rooms were handicap rooms, but their room didn't seen like a handicap room. The only difference I could see between the king room and the regular rooms is that the toilet is a little farther away from the tub. I though accessible rooms had to have roll-in showers. Their room had a regular tub and only seemed a tiny bit bigger.
There was a door connecting to the next room. Someone had said that they didn't have connecting rooms, but they do.

Kinda funny how that happens. Even with the downturn of Disney World upkeep that few can deny-I can't imagine my world without it. I'm getting up there in age but my first trip to Disneyland was when I was 18 months old, opened WDW its first year, honeymooned in DL, raised my kids Disney from infancy. Scary but it is a lifestyle with my family for over 50 years now.

I can only imagine how much money my entire family has dumped into the Disney coffers over a half a century. A statistic I will not calculate or I might stroke out. I still have all the package vacations/costs and perks since my son was born. Our first trip for 8 days with him was $1300. Instead I will take comfort in the fact that we are stockholders. Whatever gets ya through the night.

Yep, we all have different preferences. I could go into a long diatribe about it all, but I'm not. No point. We love our Disney, but, there is so much more out there. We recently decided not to even do the Princess 5K again next year...! ;) Other things, like trips to Europe, and cruises (non-Disney) are being discussed.
My first visit to WDW was on our honeymoon in '88 at age 26. So, I've been fully aware of the changes at WDW in my adult life. We'll always all love our Disney, but, it ain't the only game on the planet. ;)

Would you please tell me how to upload a picture? When I try, it asks for a url or something like that. The only way I can upload a picture directly is the avatar. Can I go straight from my picture files?

I just click on "upload a file", and it takes me to my albums. I click on the album I want, choose the pic I want. When it shows up in my pre-post I select full image. Done. :)

I'm not remembering. I was so disappointed with Via Napoli the last time we ate there. Did you have a better experience? How about you @StarWarsGirl have you ate there lately. I hope it has regrouped. I loved it the first few times, really really loved it so the last time being such a grand fail was disheartening.

We walked up around lunchtime and were seated immediately. I don't remember anything dirty about the place, at all. The service was prompt and polite. My Eggplant Parm was very good, and everyone else enjoyed their pizzas. This was also the lunch we attended with one of the ladies from our DDs national workout group that lives in Orlando and is an AP holder. She had to leave in the early afternoon to go pick up her kiddos from school, but her and her hubby eat there quite often. And, yes, even here we have plenty of good Italian food. We've got transplants here from all over the country, and, I assure you, we're not lacking. ;)
