It was in 2000 and for New Years we had a Y2K party to celebrate our surviving the new millennium. We had a cake made to look like a big old bug. Six months later my wife left home and come the following new years eve I had just moved into the mobile home that I bought, surrounded by boxes filled with years of memories I sat there and watched the ball drop. I tell you it could have been a Hallmark Movie of the week. Anyway, from that point on, I have never really felt the mood to celebrate the new year coming in. I might celebrate the year past when things have already gone OK, but, I don't trust the future.

I have no plans for tomorrow night at all. It's just another night to me. I probably won't wait up to see the New Year in. With any luck I will be in dream land by then. Yes, I know what you are thinking... Mr. Excitement is in our presence. What can I say, I rely on my charisma completely.

I think you should celebrate, even if it's just watching the N.Y. Eve specials on tv. Have a nice treat for yourself--a favorite dinner, or your favorite cookies and milk :hungry: ), and go relax in front of the tv in the livingroom, in your favorite chair. It's o.k. if you don't stay up until midnight. ;) (I'm beginning to think quite a few people conk out before midnight.)

A new year means a new beginning! Good things may come your way in the new year :); that's how I always look at it. If something crummy happened in this past year, it's already over and done with. Happy 2015 to you, @Goofyernmost !

So, the past few days, I've asked a bunch of people (both male and female, in the age range of 23 - 70), if they were going to attend any big parties of celebrations for New Year's Eve. Out of maybe 25 people that I asked, only one was going to a party. Everyone else was staying home, including us. We get Chinese food take-out and bring it home, and watch tv.

Does anyone attend big festivities for New Year's Eve anymore? Just curious . . .
I like to stay in and watch movies while eating pizza.

Nope. My brothers, spouses and kids are coming over.
We'll eat, play poker, watch the ball drop, and eat some more.

And then around 2:00 a.m., my phone will start ringing - friends asking if I can drive them home because they can't get a cab. Two years ago, I was up until 4:30 playing cabbie. The local food bank was $55 richer for my efforts.
You are awesome.

Thank you @MinnieM123. You always have such nice things to say about everyone. I'm getting to old to change my ways now (as many on this Discussion Board will tell you:rolleyes:). I don't really want anyone to feel bad for me, just that I do it kinda backwards. I celebrate the year past that has already developed and has become whatever it was and the fact that I survived it. Next year is filled with unknowns. We don't even know if we will make it to the next one. The best we can do is hope for a year that is no worse then the last. After all, that one we survived. I didn't get this grumpy by accident you know. :joyfull:

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
By the way, guess what series I found on Netflx? Wings! Just the other day I was telling my son how much I liked the show when we saw it on Nick at Nite.
Wings, as in with Brian, his brother, Helen and Roy?
Can't remember which brother it was (the older, stable one), but oh my gosh, I used to think he was so hot!

If you're talking about a different show, ignore the above comment.
