The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

I just actually poured a glass of wine. The rest of the mess is about the same. My Dad had a major melt down over the weekend too so I've been kinda banging my head a lot lately. Upside they have have not moved him again. Went to Doc myself today and my blood pressure is up. I was surprised because my blood pressure only rose when I was prego with my son years ago. So I'm thinking I'm going to have to take your advice and schedule some Calgon time.

I hope things get better. And a relaxing bath sounds like a nice treatment for you, I wish I had a Mickey bath bomb to send you.

Me too! :inlove:

I want to see Sir Elton John and Billy Joel again if given the opportunity. Good stuff.

Me too that was one of the best concerts I've been to.

You know if there is one thing really sad about what is happening in Disney at this time, it is that all of us are ridiculing something that was once special to us. And the sad part is we don't even know for sure what is going on. We, (the collective we) have been told by a few individuals that it has all gone to hell in a hand basket and now all of us are laughing at (not with) a place that previously gave us so much joy.

I read the stuff that is being generated in the Rumors section and wonder what basis of knowledge any of them possess to really know how any of the rest of humanity will see things or even better, how they have all that truly inside knowledge about what is going on. All we have heard is how Disney has let things go to the point of nearly going broke (by having some of the highest earnings in the past 5 years) and how investments in China have caused us to suffer because of overages on the other side of the world. Yet, all we are talking about is how so much of WDW, for example, is closed because of renovations, upgrades and new stuff. We complained when they were doing nothing and now we complain that they are doing to much. We blame China for the budget cuts, when it could just as easily be because of all the capital expenditure going on in our own parks. Half of DHS has closed down and yet we see no reason why many people have been let go, laid off or whatever vernacular they are using. Like all those people should be kept on the payroll even though there is nothing for them to do. (and before anyone tells me how Walt would never have done that... do some research. He did that a number of times.)

Concern about high snack prices when the entire place has been famous for it's incredibly high cost for years now and somehow a .25 cent increase on a bottle of water is the turning point. If we logically think about it even the price we pay for a bottle of water at our local store is robbery because we are paying for something we don't know the source of because someone has convinced us that the stuff coming out of our taps at home is going to kill us. And it's just water!

The boards have turned into a place where we are free to insult people if their opinion differs from our own, like they hold the formula that would save all of humanity from itself. If their so damn smart how come they have the time to spend so much of it on a discussion board. Real innovators and savvy business people are out there getting rich with every second of their available day. They are in demand, no time for frivolous conversation in cyberspace.

Anyway, am I the only one that wishes I had never found a Disney discussion board so that I could with "a touch of childhood whimsy" once again look at what was once my favorite place with less then tainted glasses?
I have always used humor when things start to disappoint me. I've always said it's much better to laugh, then cry. I hope no one, was upset reading the thread. So much has been said about all the cuts, am I disappointed with Disney, sometimes, but I will go and have a good time, regardless of the "cuts". I know better days are coming. The one thing I wish Disney would bring back, is having more attendants in the restrooms. Some of those are scary dirty. I didn't mean to bring any controversy to this thread. Sorry to all.

I just got done cutting the grass an hour ago and I just helped a black and white kitten get out between our trash bins and it made me feel happy knowing that it's no longer trapped or lost (It wasn't inside them though) but could explain why I heard this loud mews from said kitten. I also seen an orange kitten near the bottom part of our house. Our neighborhood always has cats and kittens wandering around the streets during the spring and summer seasons. But it was one of the cutest meows I heard from a kitten in a long time and it's been so long since I seen a kitten in person.

No, Bets... it's not about being upset by the joking, it is that we have gotten to the point when we are ridiculing something that we once held in esteem. I don't know whether Disney deserves that or if we are taking our actions based on the gloom of others. Some that cannot seem to see anything positive about anything. If something different then it was 20 years ago, then it is automatically bad. We, I feel, have been brainwashed into following that line of thought. I have said over and over that after 44 or more trips to WDW, I don't see where the place is falling apart. I am aware that they have not been building new stuff to any noticeable degree (in the parks) for a long time. But, I don't see any decline in appearance that cannot be explained by remembering that 20 years ago we all had respect for the place and did our best to keep it in pristine condition.

Just yesterday, I read a post where someone had thrown an empty water bottle on the bed in the Peter Pan ride. Why? Why? Why, would anyone do that and was it a problem 20 years ago? It is easy to blame Disney for all the problems that exist, but, we, as guests, are guilty of a lot of what we see today. That particular post was posted by someone that apparently was on the ride while that was happening because an announcement came over the system asking people to keep all objects within the ride vehicle. But, for awhile, until they could correct the situation it was to be seen by hundreds of people before they could even get to it to fix it. They would have to shut down the ride probably for at least a half hour to prevent anyone else from witnessing it. It just makes me sad that those of us that still enjoy the escape, that still find our own personal value in being there are now ridiculed for feeling what we feel. It is hard to keep trying to put a different light on events to keep that feeling alive. Some things are just going to happen, but, the negativity is so strong now that it filters into everything. Someone mentioned that there shouldn't be more then one major attraction down at any given time. The ones listed are in different parks. Is it fair or realistic to think that with all the complaints about lack of maintenance, we should not be happy that they are working on things or is it more fun to have it breakdown and make a big thing out of how awful maintenance is? We have to make up our minds. I have never been to WDW in all these years when something that was my favorite wasn't down, but, it is a fact. Even if they only had one scheduled to be worked on doesn't prevent another from having an unexpected problem on the same day.

I think that some of the posts on the "because of budget cuts" thread are quite humorous. Your contributions were clever as well and it is having fun with a real or perceived situation. It's just disheartening to see it happen when for so long we held the place at such a high level and the more I participate the more tainted I become. I need a place like WDW to erase real life from my mind for a few minutes. I would like to see the place as I saw it before, because I don't really believe that it is all that different, it's just that some of the wort's have now been pointed out and we can't help but see them ourselves. And I am tired of being labeled as something of a worshiper of a company, instead of worshiping those that are painting a much different picture. I'm not even sure what motivates them to do that. They say that they don't hate Disney, but, with friends like that you don't need enemies.

I remember the days, when we dressed up to go to Disney. That era just seems to be gone at the moment. I do blame the guests for lack of respect of Disney's property. Without being graphic, the women's restrooms can appear at times, like a pig sty. It's the people that trash them. I'm appalled at what people do when there isn't available space to throw things away. They feel like the floor is just one big trash can. Sometimes you find hazardous waste on the floor of the stalls. I don't know how we go about changing the culture at the theme parks.

Greetings, all -- just got back last night from WDW. Had a great time! :joyfull: I won't do a trip report, but I will share snippets (over the next few days) of some highlights and miscellaneous things.

I'll also go back to where I left off in this thread (before I left on vacation), and attempt to do "ketchup" today.

First a comment to @Gabe1 -- after seeing the national news reports of excessive security check lines for O'Hare, I assumed it wouldn't be much better for my airport in Boston, or Orlando's. Happy to say that I was given TSA Preclear for BOTH of my flights!!! I sailed through both in about 8 minutes.

For everyone: my review of Ample Hills Creamery (new ice cream shop on the Boardwalk, that just opened on Sunday). This is a nice shop, next to ESPN. They have odd sounding names of ice cream (you have to read the descriptions, because the actual names tell you nothing ;) ). So I had a (one-scoop) dish of Sally Sells Seashells, which was an orange flavored ice cream with a few chunks of chocolate (that had a hint of salt in the chocolate, but it wasn't overbearing). Cost with tax was $6.17.

The ice cream was very tasty, and yes, I do recommend it ( @figmentfan423 , you asked about Ample C. for your family's upcoming trip, and I'd say to go there). Note: I wouldn't say it was any better than Ben & Jerry's for example, but it was a high quality ice cream. Hence, I wouldn't recommend anyone make a special trip to go there, unless they were already over in the Boardwalk area. My only concern is the heat in Florida. There is no seating inside the shop, so I'd recommend getting the ice cream in a cup, versus a cone. If you get a cone, you'll have melting ice cream running down your hand in no time.
So glad you had a wonderful time! Looking forward to hearing about it!:)
