We had to have a roof replaced with hail golf balls too about 15 years ago. It is nasty here, branches down, power out all over the place, airlines delayed and canceled flights. They have closed many venues including observation decks in Sears and Hancock Towers. I'm happy I'm not flying today. Can't imagine the take off and landings. Nasty.
Is this do to snow and winds? Or just winds? It was really nasty here last night. Our weather alarm went off several times. What is with this weather?

I feel like it's age discrimination quite honestly. 18 is an adult. There are 18 year olds more mature than 21 year olds. Adult is adult is adult. If an 18-year-old brings a guest who is not registered, hotel kicks them out. Very simple. And what really irked me was that I couldn't get my own room there...but if I stayed with my parents there was an extra adult fee. :bored:

I understand, we all likely do as we have been there. There are all sorts of legal age discriminations.

Adult beverages is 21

Most rental companies wont rent a car or moving truck to under 25 and if they do they plainly state at a higher rate because their fault or not young drivers are not necessarily defensive drivers and are more likely to be involved in more accidents than more seasoned drivers are.

Car insurance is higher for those 25 and under. Many are written (like my folks) that nobody under 26 can drive their cars.

Some states won't let you have a CDL license until you are 21

In Illinois-requires drivers age 75 and older to renew their licenses in person and both a vision test and road test for drivers ages 75. drivers ages 81 through 86 to renew their license every two years, and those 87 and older to renew annually.

There are a couple states where you can't get married without permission without consent until 19 or 21. Some states have higher minimum ages for males and others only curtail females at younger ages.

Most branches of the military have a cap on how old you can be to enlist, under 40 for some areas and much younger for other areas.

Most police academies require you be 21 by graduation.

Can't be a house of rep here until you are 25 or be president until 35 years old

Can't go to a Casino here anyhow until your 21

I'm sure there are more but Uni isn't the only one and the majority are set into place by our legislators so I guessing it is legal to discriminate.

They are called Chinook winds, and can get up to over 125 mph. Our builders out here build for those kind of winds , so little home damage. Our houses sway with the winds. I don't know how they do it, but it works, the only time we had roof damage was after a very big hail storm, the size of golf balls....had to have the roof replaced.
the flexibility pretty much dissipates the energy. Similar to flexible buildings against quakes.
So, as long there is no resonance.. shouldnt be a problem!

It was actually pretty good. It's Asian-Itallian fushion, which is a little odd, but it was good. It was nice because I ordered online and my order was ready when I got there. It took less than five minutes. It was much better than campus food. Well, at least our campus food. We're not known for our food.

They make each noodle dish individually to order so it is always hot and fresh. I'm a fan. :hungry:

Good morning! I hope all of you are having a warmer morning than I am with the exception of @MinnieM123. It's 10 degrees outside:mad: and I'd  but my tears would freeze. Tonight's dinner groundhog a l'orange. Tomorrow it's supposed to get up near 60, we'll see and I'll believe it when I feel it

It had been 61 here and sunny though windy as all heck. Highest wind since Blizzard of 2011 when the drifts reached my lower eaves.

I was out and had car window cracked open around 4 inches and something blew in the window and smacked me in the temple. Ouch.

Yes! That was it...it was right near the entrance. My memories of most things in MGM are kind of vague because I think we left pretty early. We just weren't finding a whole lot that we wanted to do. I get motion sickness, so coasters and thrill rides are off-limits for me, and as we were on our honeymoon, we didn't want to be doing a whole lot of separate stuff. We did BTMR in MK the first day and it put me out of commission for the next hour or so, so we decided not to repeat that mistake in the rest of the parks. Epcot is much more my speed...nice, easy rides that don't go up high or fast or twisty, and the world showcase where I can just look around. So we did much more there than we did in MGM, and we had a hard time in MGM with timing. The Indianna Jones thing had already started and we could see when the next show would start, but then we had to come back at that time if we went further into the park, or we had to find something to do in that area of the park so that we could get back for the next show. I really could have benefited from all the research I've done this trip!!

Have you ever tried draminie for the moderate thrill rides? It doesn't help me with Rockin or rides like Tea Cups or Mission Space but it is enough to take the edge off of many thrill rides for me. I always swallow them before I go to Six Flags.

Is there a campus that IS known for its food? In a good way, I mean? I stopped eating pork at our university because it smelled like livestock and tasted horrible and I ended up getting sick several times after eating pork there. I ordered a LOT of pizza. We had a pizza place in town that had $5 deals for a large pizza and a 2 liter bottle of coke. They did a booming business in the campus housing!

My DDs University had great food plus they had custom food in several dorms, vegetarian, gluten free too. But the Princeton Review ranks a college in the North-West Suburbs of Chicago as #1 in food (it is also an excellent academic college)

(But every school has its bad too. This is the college that let the female, tenured political science professor go over “I stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book,” Hawkins wrote on Facebook. “And as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God.” The evangelical college didn't care for it. She is gone now with a confidential separation agreement as the school thought twice about firing her since public opinion along with staff and students did not support the boards strong hand.) But hey, who needs a good professor when you have excellence in food service? :banghead:

The first time I got a room on my own I was 18 but I had my own credit card. We were visiting relatives and there wasn't room in their house.

I'm never big with the idea of staying with relatives. Even when I went to my Sis's I stayed at this Shoreby Club this summer. It was pretty.

That room over the main entrance with the 3 windows on the third floor, that was mine.
