My kids had more days off for staff days. My kids went back to school in mid August. When I was in school we went back the day after Labor Day. I think it balances out just now they are more sporadic. We had equivalent vacation days. We had longer lunch breaks than my kids though and they were dismissed earlier than we were. My kids had early days on Thursdays for release. I had Wednesdays for early release, generally those wound up being Boy & Girl Scout Days.

Yep, like I posted before, I'd hafta' go back and do more research. But, I'm pretty sure there are at least a few more holidays the kids have now that we didn't have, plus, I don't remember as many days off for the big holidays. Also, I remember no early dismissal whatsoever. I pretty much just remember parent teacher conferences and summer.
But, then again, I'm pretty old, and have slept since then...! ;)

Can you park somewhere like a resort and take a bus? When is all the work supposed to be done, though? Won't it be finished by August?
We stayed at the Hilton, and walked across the bridge to take a bus. Disney was doing it's best to get people where they wanted to go. Sometimes we went to parks and resorts combined. They did a very good job. But the afternoon crowds, and local traffic over took the system. No getting around the traffic at the 3 to 5 o'clock traffic. That's when we had the long wait on the bus. My suggestion, if the roads aren't finished would be walk to the boat dock, and take a boat to Saratoga Springs, walk to the Grandstand and board that bus. Or just wait, I was tired and now know I was coming down with a bug, and couldn't make the walk. The timing may be the same, but you get to see the Springs, have a nice boat ride, and either go from Congress Park (as long as you don't mind standing on the bus, or waiting for another one). To Disney's credit, they are trying very hard to get people where they want to go. Because of the cold weather and rain, the water parks were closed, so they skipped them and added a park or two from Disney. I don't know how this will work in the summer month's. Just MHO. Disney has been handed a problem with the bus station at Disney Springs being changed at the same time I - 4 is torn up. I give them many kudo's for being kind and accommodating, to where people wanted to go.

I hope it's done by August. Getting on a bus won't save any time. We'll be getting there early in hopes of getting a good parking spot. early birds get the worm or in our case hopefully a good parking spot.
One of the parking garages is fully finished. I can't say how parking was, as we didn't use a car. But it's looks to be able to accommodate a lot of cars. I'm not so good with cars and parking places. Just avoid the 5 o'clock somewhere time span and week-ends. I'll be glad to give an update in June, as we take our annual Disney vacations with the kids and grandkids. Hubby and I am taking the Magic Express, SIL will rent a car and see how we fare during the week. Hubby and I usually leave the parks before them and want to use transportation with them in the morning and buses in the afternoon. It's a fun survey for us, and we get to leave when it gets too hot!

And, in other awesome news...
DWifey called me on the way home from the office to tell me she got the promotion she found out she was up for only two days ago! She may have shed a tear...or two... ;)
They told her they didn't even bother to interview two other possible contenders 'cause it was no contest.
The director of the department wanted her for the position back in Oct., but, higher-ups wanted to hold off for a few more months to see if she would still be performing at such a high level...apparently, they couldn't believe it...!!! :hilarious:
I'm sooo happy for her, and she sooooo very much deserves it...!!!
And, yes, it also came with a monster raise...! ;)

Interviewer: "Carolyn, now that ya' got the big promotion and raise, what are ya' gonna' do now...?!"
DWifey: "Whataya' think silly?!!! We're goin' to Walt Disney Wooooooorld...!!!!!!! :joyfull:"
:D :hilarious: ;) :)
God bless you DWifey, it's so good to see a wonderful worker get rewarded! So happy for both of you, @donaldtoo and your special partner.

Considering there were some injuries.. no surprise.

Also, I read the news update. Seems the office of royal caribbean was the one who were responsible of forcing the captain to head to the storm. They claim they gave erroneous information about the storm to the captain.
Wow, now that's bad. I was going to do another cruise with them, now I'm going back to Disney. I do like a land trip!

Ours are very different than that pastry form. They are very round and light and the various fillings are packed into the middle. The pastry is very light and delicate and yummy filling is smack in the middle.

Yep, we have similar too. Although, I'm not so used to them looking like filled donuts with lots of icing. Only a few drizzles of icing or maybe a little powdered sugar, actually.
What I posted were my Czech heritages originals...!!!
But, then again, the definition of a kolache has been extended, in recent years. We have them in all sorts of savory forms, as well...stuffed with sausage, cheese, jalapeño,bacon, etc....:)

ETA:
And yes, the pastry in a good kolache is always very light...a very light and wonderous food vessel, indeed...!
