My parents were smart; I had way more hours than I needed under my belt before taking the test. I took a bit longer to learn how to drive, which is perfectly fine. I passed on the first try. Back then, there was only about a 30% pass rate, so I was fortunate. They took parallel parking off the exam, so I don't know what those numbers are now.I also was in a rush to get my license, but in my case I probably should have gotten more hours under my belt before taking the test. Not that I want to promote the Asian stereotype, but I was not a confident driver back then.
Although after college I started driving way too fast and got many speeding tickets. So once I got tired of going to traffic school, I started driving more sensibly. I may have "bumped" into a few cars, but I have never gotten in a serious accident either.
Unfortunately, I have had accidents, but that's because other drivers are morons. Two of them were hit and runs. The third was when I was about three feet out of the parking lot when a woman driving like a maniac came through, hit me, and is still trying to say it was my fault because I was backing up. I was only about three feet out and have photos showing she was in the wrong lane. My insurance company went 50/50, but her insurance company disagreed, so now it will go to arbitration (at some point).
I'm still ticket-free, though. Of course, half my route to school is a place where cops can't sit because there's no shoulders for them to sit on, so...
