That would be Apollo 1. The 3 astronauts were killed during a launch rehearsal because of a cabin fire.
I didn't realize it was on display there.

Interesting...
I found a coupla' things online that say the Apollo 1 capsule was never on display and has been in storage since they finished studying it after the accident.

Anyway, will hafta' research more later, 'cause it's back to the grind for me...
Have a happy, all...!
See yaaaaaaa'...!!! :)
I dont think rocket = capsule.
Perhaps they were talking about an older recovered used rocket?

I believe that all capsules that were actually flown have that burnt look on the outside due to re-entry. I guess it might be pretty easy to mistake that for the Apollo 1 disaster. It would be quite morbid, however, to have that particular capsule on display, out of respect for the men that died and their families, I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

I was just thinking that was probably the reason Apollo 1 wasn't on display. If my loved one had been inside Apollo 1 I don't think I would want people gawking at the capsule where they passed away.

That makes sense. There is a bucket load of rockets there and it was the huge rocket that is on display in a building all it's own. Not the one that was sitting on the pad when the fire happened, but, I guess one that was left over from the program. Pretty impressive thing. You cannot even begin to realize how big that thing was unless you are standing under it in that building. It is huge.

Oh, I completely agree about the morbidity factor, as well as disrespecting the families of those brave men.
Also, I'm quite familiar with the re-entry burn look. I was a bit surprised that it would be on display there (or anywhere) too, but could think of no other rocket/capsule that burned (as she seemed, to me anyway, to describe), and wasn't completely destroyed, that would have enough historical significance to be on display at KSC.
Also, before I replied to @betty rose post, because I was kinda' surprised it would be on display, I googled it and found an image that really seemed it might confirm the display. That's when I googled some more and found several sites that said it has never been on display. That all made more sense, and I was glad to hear.

Anyway, here's the image that threw me. Check out the "Launch Pad Disaster" plaque at the bottom of the image...

ETA: I also googled for replicas of the capsule, and couldn't find anything.

I will make a proper report when I'm back and I clear up all the things I have to ketchup both on work and on other websites.

Awesome.

While I've never had the hankering for parades or shows that Dragon is freak'n amazing and I am in awe looking at castle all lit up.

Keep the photos coming. The bonus for me who is too fidgety to wait for a parade or show is I get to see the parade without having to stand there. Thanks. :inlove:

All of a sudden that picture looks familiar to me. I don't know from where though. I can't imagine it being at the Kennedy Space Center, but, I suppose it could be. Did it say where that picture was taken?

I've tried to find out where it was taken and, so far, haven't been able to.
I'm getting ready to leave the office and will try to research it further when I get home.
I'm very curious, myself...

I love the Peoplemover. I miss the old spiel with it. :( I can still hear it all in my head as we ride it.

I'm not at all sure, but, the name Henry Ford Museum keeps jumping into my head. I have no actual memory of it being there, but, then again, I have no actual memory of it being at KSC either.
