Day 12 of the Adventure.... October 31, Halloween (Saturday).. Time to start sailing!

Another change of focus. Left early to catch a train to the Port of Civitavecchia just outside Rome.

This would be a good time a talk a little bit about the street beggars generally in most of the cities in Europe. It is amazing the lengths that these folks will go to just for a handout. I saw people of all ages playing music (which I usually gave too if it were good entertainment), people in weird costumes (like bodies with no heads, one person that was really clever in that he appeared to just be levitating about 4 feet off the ground, people on their knees with their faces planted on the dirty pavement with a paper cup extended in front of them for donations) I suspect the last one was to show a degree of humility and desperation. Fortunately for me, I am, indeed, dead inside and found it amusing instead of worthy. The most aggressive one that I saw or experienced was as we were traversing our way to the train station on our last day. If you remember I told you that I re-injured my arm catching a lady that fell from the stairs on the train back from Disneyland Paris. As we were leaving we had two massive staircases to climb up ladened with two suit cases (about 35 pounds each). As I got to the bottom of the stairs I redistributed my weight load to help my arm and my balance as I carried the bags up the steps. I got up about 4 steps before, out of nowhere, I started to feel my suitcase rise upward. I turned around to find this old lady (even older then me, I think) lifting up on my suitcase on my left side in an effort to help? Instead it was throwing my balance off completely. I asked her to stop by using the universal "NO". She would not! I kept trying to maintain my balance and continue up the stairs and she kept insisting that she was going to help me. I finally had to stop and in my voice that used to stop my children dead in their tracks, literally screamed "NO, NO, NO DAMMIT". She finally got the message and stopped, but, continued to follow us up the stair and attempted to enter the train station. She was turned away by security and stomped away very unhappily. As I said, begging is an art form over there.

Were you also making this face when you were telling her "no"?

kinda funny, because AK is my mothers and myself's favourite park.

But would it have been your and Mom's favorite park for a full day admission with these attractions only. Remember Lion King is now in its 3rd venue. The Original didn't even have air conditioning. Think of the whole Asia side as not developed yet. A River Boat Ride that went nowhere and you saw little to nothing, same with Wildlife Express Train, Long walk then to a pretty lame and very limited animal petting area. You had basically Countdown to Extinction, Bug, Safari and Lion King.
