The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
OK, I need to rant a bit here. My not-soon-enough-to-be-ex sent me this text last night: "Also, from now on. The right side of the freezer is your side. Do not touch my food."

No wonder my hair is turning so gray now!!!
I'm kind of overtired and cranky this morning - you want me to come down there and smack him?
For you, any time!

I was hoping you got to throw a coin in the fountain so you could go back soon. But then again your travel agent is just a call away.
Nice thought, but, to be honest, I have no interest in going back again. I was more upset about the fact that this was my sisters first trip to Rome. I tossed a coin in back in 1967 and I went back last month. It was a shame that after all these centuries of its existence, we had to arrive during a restoration, but, such is life. I'm fine with it, personally.

Day 12 of the Adventure.... October 31, Halloween (Saturday).. Time to start sailing!

Another change of focus. Left early to catch a train to the Port of Civitavecchia just outside Rome.

This would be a good time a talk a little bit about the street beggars generally in most of the cities in Europe. It is amazing the lengths that these folks will go to just for a handout. I saw people of all ages playing music (which I usually gave too if it were good entertainment), people in weird costumes (like bodies with no heads, one person that was really clever in that he appeared to just be levitating about 4 feet off the ground, people on their knees with their faces planted on the dirty pavement with a paper cup extended in front of them for donations) I suspect the last one was to show a degree of humility and desperation. Fortunately for me, I am, indeed, dead inside and found it amusing instead of worthy. The most aggressive one that I saw or experienced was as we were traversing our way to the train station on our last day. If you remember I told you that I re-injured my arm catching a lady that fell from the stairs on the train back from Disneyland Paris. As we were leaving we had two massive staircases to climb up ladened with two suit cases (about 35 pounds each). As I got to the bottom of the stairs I redistributed my weight load to help my arm and my balance as I carried the bags up the steps. I got up about 4 steps before, out of nowhere, I started to feel my suitcase rise upward. I turned around to find this old lady (even older then me, I think) lifting up on my suitcase on my left side in an effort to help? Instead it was throwing my balance off completely. I asked her to stop by using the universal "NO". She would not! I kept trying to maintain my balance and continue up the stairs and she kept insisting that she was going to help me. I finally had to stop and in my voice that used to stop my children dead in their tracks, literally screamed "NO, NO, NO DAMMIT". She finally got the message and stopped, but, continued to follow us up the stair and attempted to enter the train station. She was turned away by security and stomped away very unhappily. As I said, begging is an art form over there.

Moving along, we had to leave the apartment early so we had a bit of a wait in the train station for our 40 minute train trip to the Port.

The train stop was about two blocks from the port, so we walked it and then there was a bus that took us to the Celebrity Silhouette where we boarded, found our cabin, attended the pre-cruise safety briefing where at the end of it the Captain, a guy that I feel would rather be doing stand-up, finished with the information that only he or, if something happened to him, his second in command OR if the second had the same fate, the third would be authorized to abandon ship. He then proceed to say that if something bad happened to all of those three at the same time, then you, as passengers, might consider that you are also having a very bad day. What a comic! After that we just sailed off into the sunset.

At least the captain was funny and a good sailor. You seem to have made it back in one piece

Thank you. I really try not to post too much about the carp going on over here, but it's gems like these that I've been dealing with constantly and I need an outlet and support. My therapist thinks I've been coping better lately, but I tell you it's a huge effort. I will be so happy for my week with DD during Christmas break! Not sure if I've posted our plans yet - we'll be spending a few days in San Francisco, a few days in Monterey Bay, and then probably one night near Hearst Castle. Can't wait!!
I'm so happy that you and DD will have Christmas together, away from all the stress. Enjoy yourselves, you deserve it!

I am really interested to hear when you return what your take is on OKW. It is spread out like POR actually built in the same general time frame. I really like OKW as the rooms are large and the resort reminds me of Florida of yesteryear. It has a very different feel than most of the DVC resorts, it is pretty private and relaxing. We are thinking of staying there in the spring after spring break of course. Buying points there is reasonable.
I've wanted to stay there too, but I'm always over ruled by the rest of the family. The grandkids truly think of Saratoga Springs as "home".

OK dear friends, send good karma and prayers my DD way. Been texting with her. She got up to use the facilities and tripped and fell. She has broken her one foot multiple times and is fearful she has done it again. Lets pray it is better in the morning and I'm not calling the orthopedist in the morning. Her apartment is in a 100 year old building, a steep flight of stairs and no elevator. Ahhhhhhh!
So sorry to hear this.
