You're all welcome. I'll just have to go down in the basement and bring up some more Ollie. A bottle only goes so far with my heavy had pouring. Beer doesn't ever get poured here by me, nor opened or purchased @ajrwdwgirl

Don't you just hate being served wine in a huge glass and it appears that there is only a splash of wine at the bottom?

Not for me...I fill it up no matter how big the glass. ;)

I like most Christmas songs too though I tend to be more selective with the artists. Some are amazing and others just butcher the heck out of them. Kinda like artists that sing the National Anthem. I tend to enjoy quicker, more upbeat tempos over the slow drawn out versions.

The overkill in the lyrics of pa-rum pum pum pum I find grating. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I too am picky about my Christmas songs. My favorites are some of the classics: Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Andy Williams.

Day 9 of the Adventure.... October 28 Wednesday Vatican City

Today represents the reason why I have halo headaches. We headed for St. Peters Square and the Papal audience within. As you will see by the pictures, we were joined by a very large group of halo related people in the process. I don't know what I was expecting when my sister informed me of the audience. I guess, I was picturing a large room with probably 100 people in it. It required a pass that was reserved months in advance. The picture will show what it actually was. The crowd, I estimate at about 15,000 people, all congregated in the Square that was carefully fenced off in areas. It did have seats for about, again I'm guessing, 10,000 people. BTW, this happens every Wednesday.

When it began, an area within the crowd had been fenced to allow the Pope to ride through in the Pope Mobile waving to the crowd. I'm guessing that he was probably anywhere from 3 feet to 30 feet away from most everyone. I didn't take a close up of it but when he passed by, I would guess I was about 20 feet away. Anyway, he circled around the inner path and then stopped at the alter/stage that also can be seen in the picture and gave a speech in his native language and was followed by about 30 Cardinals that I assume gave the same speech in their own native language. One, of course, was English. The sky was very threatening looking and the "audience" took about two hours, or it seem like that much. He then turned and walked into St. Peter's Basilica. The moment, and I am not kidding, that he cleared the doorway inside the Basilica, it started to rain. Take your own message from that, I prefer not to speculate.

After that we had a "Fast Pass" to the Sistine Chapel so we started the long walk to that entrance. Fortunately, I had an umbrella!

I went to the Sistine Chapel when I was there in the 60's, but, I do not remember having to walk that far or up and down that many levels to get there at the time. The Chapel itself was unchanged except that they had painted the ceiling a light yellow. (Just kidding, it still had the paintings) What they did lack was organization. There were some groups in the middle of the Chapel just standing there looking up, of course, and the rest of us were just herded through like cattle, yelled at if we stopped for a second to, you know, look up and see it. In one door, around the edge and then out the front door. It was very disappointing to me and almost caused me to lose my halo for a moment or two. They needed some serious Disney people moving systems in there. I, actually felt that I knew a simple way to fix that problem, but, decided the better part of valor was to just keep moving and complain about it on the internet. Mission done.

We wanted to go back to the Basilica and tour inside but by then it was 3 pm and the line was two hours long, so, we opted to come back another day for that part of it. We did... you will see later. Didn't need another rush hour close encounter, especially in the rain. No photos were allowed in the Vatican, so I will just post a few from the morning Audience.

Just to get a feel for the massiveness of this building compare the pillars to the people standing at the base of them. You can also see the alter/stage where the Pope spoke.

If you look to the lower right hand corner of the picture, just to the right of the big screen TV, you will see a funny looking white pipe like structure and a small white dot within it. The pipe is the top of the Pope Mobile and the dot is the Pope. I was closer to that at one point, but, I didn't take any pictures at the time. So shoot me!

This picture is to just get the idea of how large the crowd was. So, we will leave this for now and return another day, but, there are other places to see in Italy and that is one of our plans.

I know that the ground looks wet, and it is, it had rained earlier, but, stopped for the ceremony.

I know what you mean. Last Christmas is the one getting on my nerves. Wham did a fine job. Why does every artist ever have to do a version of it? More creativity, people. And they usually cover it badly.

I can't stand that song: Last Christmas. The lyrics are so terrible to me and it is over played. But at least it isn't Do They Know It's Christmas, this song has to be worse than Little Drummer Boy (even with its rum-pa-pa-pums). I mean who puts the lyrics (not quoted exactly): "Thank God it's them and not you, in a Christmas song. I know it is a fund raiser song for Band Aid about the famine in Africa. But it just seems a little wrong it seems like they are saying be grateful others are down on their luck. I don't know it just strikes me wrong.

Hello all!

Just to give my friends here a quick update, I'm still in Israel, doing well.

I've settled in Tel Aviv. I work full time for an Internet company. I am also going to school 3 1/2 hours a day. Additionally, I've gotten approval for a big loan to start a business here!

I know the last time I posted here I wasn't doing well and was ready to cut my trip short. Now, it looks like I am here for the long term.

Maybe I'll visit the US again when Avatar Land and again Star Wars Land open.

By the way, SW:TFA will open in movie theaters here first before the US! :)

Now see I love Do They Know It's Christmas. It always makes me pause and think about the crazy commercialism in my part of the world in contrast to real need. But I never thought about the line you mentioned (Bono's line) that way before. I thought it was criticizing people for being selfish and thinking that way. I do see what you are saying.
