I dont think yourr data is dead.. when you buy a new laptop.. buy also a hard disk to USB "hard disk dock".
then remove the hard disk from the laptop (shouldn't be hard, usually 4 screws and one single pull cable).
Then you can copy your data.
I'll give it a try, but the computer is saying that it can't find an OS and can't boot, so advice that I was given said that it's most likely the hard drive, especially since it's making a clicking sound.

When I get my new one, I'll try, especially since a lot of files are on my old laptop, but no guarantees.

Similar thing happened when our last LT bit the dust. Luckily, anything important was already saved to other devices. :)
Yup. Important school files go on a flash drive (mostly so I can work on them on my tablet, which has limited memory), although there was one paper that I needed that was on my laptop. But thankfully, when you turn things in via a school website called Blackboard that a lot of colleges use, you can get said files off Blackboard. So it was on there and I just grabbed it off there. All the rest of my school files are on my flash drive(s). So it's just photos that I lost basically. And my brother has been kind enough to loan me his laptop until I can get a new one.

I like *SLURP!* MUCH better...! :D ;) :)

I'm right there with ya!

All the "like" goes to your DH...! :)

SIL can go dig a hole... :cautious:

:joyfull:

Ha! He did well. I re-wrote your SIL sentence in my head because it would be all ****'s here. My DS said it can be another 3 years 'till he sees them all again. My DD and I quickly agreed. This is the two sisters that are married to DH 2 brothers. Not good, not good at all.

and it instantly hits my brain... "WHERE THE HELL DID THE YEAR GO???"
I mean.. december already?

I still can remember FEBRUARY with no trouble D:

Last February, heck all of last winter and most of the Spring I remember like it was yesterday.

Yup, he's pretty good about loaning out his laptop when I need it. He recognizes that I need a computer for school, and since I only have a week or so left, he won't be without it for long, especially since I can also work on my dad's computer or my tablet.

Good parents too, as they basically said that as long as I keep the cost under a certain amount, they will buy me a new laptop.

I'm thinking my next laptop will be a Lenovo. They get good ratings from PC Magazine and Consumer Reports, and they are the ones making the 2 in 1 laptops with disc drives, which is my big thing

I bought a Toshiba for college in Sept and by Dec, it needed a new hard drive. Four years later at graduation, the blue screen of death was being shown.

Never had a Lenovo or heard of anybody with one. Dells are ok. HP is better than Dell (at least to me). I'm currently on 4 years with my Macbook but a price of a Mac leaves one expecting many years of usage. If I didn't get a Mac, I would have probably got a Vaio (Sony).

the People's mover is the perfect place to chill, to calm down and take a breathing of the madness outside.
Id say the same about the train and "safaries".

I totally agree! Years ago DH and I would ride People over and over while the kids rode Space. The train we often use as peaceful transportation from one land to the other. It saves the feet. We also use the boats at times in the WS.

Went to a wedding last night. Chatted with one of the guests about his first trip to Disney with his two children. He proceeded to tell me that they got these "things for their wrists" and all he had to to was wave it to buy all their meals, or any souvenirs, etc. It was so easy, he said. ;) (I remained mum about my own thoughts about the Magic Bands, and politely listened to this first-timer.)

Then he tells me that he got his bill (for just under a week) and just the meals only, for the 3 of them, came to $1,300! He said they had a few nice, sit-down meals, but doesn't recall ordering anything fancy. (He was the perfect guest for Disney; totally immersed himself in the bubble, and completely lost track of what he was spending.)

I told him that I was glad he had a nice trip with the children; and gently suggested that next time, he pay more attention to the meal prices, and create a budget for himself ahead of the trip. (I also shared that I pay all my meals in cash (cash card) that I had pre-loaded with a specific amount, prior to my trip, and kept a running tally each day to stay within budget.) I also mentioned that if he watched the ads on a regular basis, he might luck out and get free dining travel dates.

I pay cash for just about everything that is not on the dining plan. If it is a big purchase I'll use my debit card.
I also put $100 on a gift card so we could easily get a bottle of water, ice cream etc when I didn't want to drag out wallet. Years ago all our spending money was in $100 units of travelers checks. It worked well 'cause you didn't have too much cash at a time. I liked travelers checks.

We're staying away from HP. My last laptop only lasted 3 years before developing a processing problem (although I turned it on today to retrieve some old files and it still works, but it hasn't been turned on for almost 2 years), and this HP didn't even make it to two years (a fact my parents are complaining to HP about). My brother has a cheap-o Dell laptop that seems to be working just fine. Toshiba I'm not doing because Best Buy doesn't carry them, and I'm planning on buying from them so that we can use the Best Buy card and get the 18 months financing and the points on the My Best Buy Account. Lenovo I've used at school. Very nice computers. And Consumer Reports ranks them right up with Dell. And they make the 2 in 1 computers with the disc drive. I'm rather dependent on my disc drive.

I refuse to do a Mac. Way out of my price range, and they confuse me. For a Windows computer, if something goes wrong with it, I know exactly what to do. Macs...I wouldn't have a clue. Besides, I've got a lot of programs that are built for Windows. I'd have to repurchase Office too. And there was one day that I tried to operate a Mac in one of my classes...and it didn't go well. Apple is a good brand, but I want a PC.

Okay, I ordered a bunch of cool stuff from Amazon. Any of it could have come first. The DVDs, the iPod case, but what comes first? The starch. It arrived today. Meanwhile, the cool stuff isn't set to arrive until between Thursday and Saturday:grumpy:

Don't you have Prime? It is cheap for college students.

It's $50. I've considered it, but I kind of don't even feel like spending that. I usually end up with free shipping from then anyway. But right now, I'm just impatient

EDIT: Oh, my one package is in the state. Should be here in a few days, if not tomorrow!

So my daughter got stuck in the elevator at work transporting a patient. She and this 90 year old were stuck in there for almost an hour. The hospital had to call the fire department because they were stuck between floors. The firefighters impressed my daughter a lot.
She came home and told me she might be interested in becoming a firefighter. I guess it has been something she has been thinking about for awhile. I don't know.

auch.. if its the clicking of death.. it sounds definitively physical problems with the hard disk D:

You could always try the freeze technique.
put the hard disk in the freezer area of your fridge with a towel on the bottom.
once its really cold (frozen), plug it and hope it works enough to let you recover some of your most important files.

Lenovo uses IBM tech.. so their laptops are usually build to last.

Poor computer.

My parents are going to contact HP and see what HP will do for us. If they offer us a discount on a new computer, I'll get another HP. If HP won't do anything for us, I've already told them I want the Levono. My main thing is that it's a 2 in 1 PC that has a DVDRW drive. So many of these computers don't have one.
