Thank you!! At least someone is concerned besides me. ;)

I've been waiting to reply to see if I'd have any update to our Turkey Day Dining plans.

That would be a big, fat NOPE. I mentioned to DH, that, hey - it's a holiday - think we should have ressies somewhere... Anywhere?? His response: we have hours to figure it out during the drive over.

Since it's really not up to us, I'm just going to go with the flow. I could grab some hummus and pita chips and be happy. DS can always eat chicken nuggets from somewhere. It's only a meal, right?
All our fast food places are closed too. When the malls open at 8pm he can take ya there. Oy

You may luck out and find something "on the fly" and I hope you do. As for the restaurant where I've made my Thanksgiving reservations, I called them during the third week of October, to be sure my (small) group could get a reservation. Last year, I called at the beginning of November, and they were sold out for Thanksgiving. I'm not saying all restaurants are like that, but it might be interesting to see if you can do a little scouting on the internet, to see what restaurants may be in the area you're going to, just to see if they are even open at all on Thanksgiving. I hope you and your family have a very nice Thanksgiving, no matter where you enjoy your dinner.

Something has really been bothering me since we got home from vacation last week.

While driving to the airport, we drove through the general area where we have been looking at condos - only online of course, as we are at least a full year away from looking at properties in person.
And while most everything we were considering was in a gated community, the roads leading to these communities were sketchy. Even with Hubby, for once, I wasn't feeling safe - says the girl who walked (with Hubby and one other gal) from Times Square to our hotel at 3:00 a.m.

For the last week or so, I've been thinking, "I don't really want to buy in Florida, after all".

Anyways, totally out of the blue, Hubby says to me today, "Orlando's out, we need to consider closer to the coast. I didn't feel safe."

By coast, we mean Gulf - not east.

This led me to assert that I would prefer to be in an actual building, not a townhouse complex.
We have just spent the past hour looking at available properties, and we are both really pumped again.

The link I tried to post was no good, but we are looking at something like this. Just north of Tampa, <$130K.

When you go to seriously look you need a good Realtor. The Greater Orlando area is just like any other urban area including Tampa/St.Pete.

Try your searches in Windermere and Winter Park. Stay out of Kiss and Orlando proper but there are many terrific areas in the suburbs. Windermere is my first choice. Tampa/St. Pete is pretty nice, my DS was there this year again and we use to stay there all the time. Depends on what you are looking for, close to Disney or Florida in general. Tampa without traffic is a good 1.5 hours to Walt Disney World so by the time you park at the MK you have a two hour commute to get inside the park, each way.

I have a friend that just bought this spring in Windermere, he can see the fireworks from his balcony.

We used to stay at Clearwater Beach and drive to Disney when we were younger. (Can't believe I just said that.)
I'm the one who wants to be closer to Mickey. Hubby wants to be closer to the beach.
Given that we each already have a 70+ minute commute to work (each way), 90-100 minutes to see Mickey doesn't seem that bad. Also, perhaps we could drive to WDW, spend the night at a cheapie hotel, and then go back to the condo on the second night.

Anyways, we're a whole year off from making any kind of decision.
I had just felt so discouraged. That ride along Sand Lake Road was pretty scary.

And having been a Realtor for more than 20 years, I certainly second your notion.

Yeah, it just depends on what ya want out of Florida. I want to be close to the parks so I can hop over for an hour or two or just for a meal and a ride or two. I wouldn't do that likely from Tampa.

If I'm going to buy farther from the parks it would be Clearwater or Ft. Myers.
