Body oils, I believe, are a different make up the cooking oils, etc. Detergents should be formulated to dissolve body oils easily, but those petroleum and non-human oils are a little harder to attack in my mind.

But no detergent gets rid of cootie's. Ewwwww! I thought those were just female things that pre-teens have to be careful about.

We all need to be careful of the cootie monsters! :hilarious:

I used to get in trouble when I was little for trying to drink A1 out of the bottle. :cyclops:
I used to (okay still do) drink pickle juice. My Baba used to warn me that all my blood was going to dry up.
Mind you, she used to insist that I would get pneumonia if I went outside with wet hair ... and that some man in her village tickled three wives to death.

Yep. After time the cotton in towels do build up oils, you'd think we use them when we are clean right? Bleach will cut the oils however it also shortens the life and thickness of towels overtime. Ammonia cuts the oils and a cup in the wash does the trick and makes the towels fluffy. Also if you ever have towels or clothes that get that damp musty smell it will remove that odor.

I put combs and brushes (outside) in a tightly fitting container like rubbermaid covered in ammonia. Cleans them like new. Just have to be careful with ammonia as the fumes can knock ya out.
When I put ammonia into a washing machine, it is always the last thing I add before quickly closing the door. And of course never ever use ammonia anywhere bleach is. A deadly combo, even grocery stores place those two items far away from each other.

So when exactly do you add the cup of ammonia? Do you let the water fill up and then pour it in with the detergent, or do you add the ammonia to the final rinse? I find all this oddly fascinating.

I don't have any ammonia, so I guess I could buy some this weekend and try it. (I've heard about the ammonia/bleach thing though; it's dangerous if mixed together. But not to worry; I don't own any bleach either! :p ) All I have is Tide and a small bottle of Woolite for delicate things.

Yea, I don't even know what DWifey and youngest DD pay to have their hair cut/done.
And, I'm OK with that. It's probably for the better that I remain ignorant, regarding such... ;) :cyclops:

I'd like to represent DWifey and youngest DD of yours, by being their official spokesperson, for justifying the cost of beautiful hairdos. Official Statement Below--

On behalf of my clients, DWifey and youngest DD, all you need to know is that they're both gorgeous and worth every penny they spend! :joyfull:

Having asthma , gabe's information has kept me from possible issues.:) I love this thread, I'm learning new things,

I learn something new here every day. Today's lesson (for me) was about the ammonia added to the towels wash. (Except @Goofyernmost doesn't need to add ammonia to his towel wash, because he has stated emphatically that he doesn't have cooties! :hilarious: Or, at least he thinks he doesn't have them . . .)

I am very careful about washing my towel (singular) and I do it religiously every month or two. I figure whatever is on it at that point, will kill off the cooties.

@JenniferS , when I was away at WDW, the flash on my disposable camera was not working. I had attempted to take some pictures for you of my room (one of the newly remodeled ones) at the SWAN. The reason was that it had modern furnishings and accents (undertones of whites and blues). The styling was something almost along the lines of how you stage a new property that you and your hubby sell. I'm bummed that not all the pictures I wanted for you didn't come out, but I found one (although the composition of the shot is not exciting, and it's still dark due to no flash.) The long bureau (which also didn't come out in the pix) had a huge flat screen TV that would swing around to any position you wanted to view it, in the room.

The reason I wanted to show you this one was for the oblong, boxy style of the white lampshade on the night table. To see it in person, it was really cool--very clean lines, and it extended the width of the night stand, with two bulbs inside, so plenty of reading light for either of the queen beds. (I wished my pix of the "desk" on the other side of the room came out, because it was all smokey glass, in an oval shape with beveled edges. And, it was on casters so you could even move it around the room.) It had a nice blue comfy chair with it too. Anyway, the picture below was the lamp that I thought you'd like to see. The bed backboards were nicely fabric covered, too, by the way. :)

Very nice. Hotel chic.

I think I'd like to stay at The Swan sometime.
Especially if they ever build that monorail pass-through. :hilarious:
