Sharing just a general fyi about some of the financial markets for this Thursday --

I read today that the N. Y. Stock Exchange, NASDAQ Inc.'s U. S. equity exchanges, and the Cboe Global Markets Inc., will be closed this Thursday, Jan. 9th, in observance of a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.

But I have to go into work :(

And the MBTA checked my train ticket going home last week. I was so mad. Usually, they only check my ticket in the morning and not during the evening so I have a free ride home.

Among other parts of the T system -- subways, vehicles, etc., I also took commuter rail for a number of years (out of North Station). The conductors did their best to check all tickets, but during rush hours it was impossible to get to everyone. Hence, they installed those tap machines there at the station hub (and in other locations, but not all yet, I think) to make sure all were paying. So if you were sliding by from time to time in the past, you were just lucky.

In theory, the T has ramped up all conductors' efforts to try and check all tickets, if a tap machine is not an option at all stops. (I think you use South Station commuter rail, right? Haven't they implemented the tap machines in the station yet, thereby eliminating the need for the visual check by conductors of the tickets?) Haven't been down to S. Station for a few years, so I'm unfamiliar with what they have there now.

I go to Ruggles or Back Bay depending on the weather. No machine in sight. I thought the tap machines where just the subway?

PS - The windy weather all the time has to stop. And it looks like no snow this weekend for us.

Does anyone get a crazy keyboard when on the site when using your phone? Doesn't happen anywhere else.

They've been slowly adding them to the more major system hubs, and eventually on the commuter rail cars themselves.

I've also noticed them on some of the buses I've been on. (They have the tap pad on the fare boxes as usual on the buses, but they're also adding tap pads at the front and rear doors on some vehicles.) The contactless system allows for the use of credit/debit cards, (plus, phone/watch if set up in your mobile wallet), and of course, the regular Charlie cards. The above aside, you can still pay cash for fare at the rail or subway ticket booth, or at the fare box, next to a bus driver.
