So, I decided (for anyone here who still cares) that I will fly from Tel Aviv to Paris at the end of my six month visit to Israel that begins July 1. So, that will be the beginning of February. One way airfare from Tel Aviv to Paris during that time is only $70! I will then spend two weeks in Europe before flying back to Miami from London. Airfare from London to Miami is only $300! During my two weeks in Europe, I'll go to Disneyland Paris and get a Eurorail pass and try to stuff as many European cities in as possible!

That's called playing the odds. Yes, in rural areas where there is one house every mile or so, then that house will be the highest point and therefore more susceptible to a lightening strike. However, houses in suburban areas are also susceptible but, since lightening is random, it just has more to choose from so the odds are better that yours will not get hit. In my mind it is still a good idea to have them especially if you are in an area that tends to have a lot of storms.

I agree. That makes sense. I just turned on the morning news and saw that yet another house got struck with lightning last night. I think I'm going to ask our landlord if he has lightning protection on the house.

I'm so jealous! I wouldn't trade my boys for anything, but Europe on the fly sounds like so much fun! Have you figured out kitty sitting yet?
I posted about that a few days ago, but I'll repeat what I said. Unfortunately, Israeli law requires that all animals entering the country get certified by a U.S. certified laboratory a week before entering the country that rabie vaccination administered no later than a month of entering the country and no earlier than a year of entering the country of positive test results of the vaccination being successful. There are only two certified labs in the Florida that could certify the vaccination results. These labs have a 3-month to be tested. Since I vaccinated her a couple of weeks ago, it will be impossible to get the results from the certified lab on time for my flight to Israel from Newark by June 30.

So, I've accepted this. My mom will watch her for me. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise because now I can travel and not worry. Also, initially I'll be staying with a second cousin and I haven't told them about the cat...

I'll do a daily video blog while I am there (in Israel and Europe) and choose an interesting subject each day and do my best at investigative video documentary journalism.

My then career dropped Veterans Day as a Holiday when MLK Day came onboard. The firm that I worked for that year had MLK Day as a no work holiday but work was then required on Veterans Day. So few firms that we associated with were closed for MLK Day that it was a one year holiday but we were not given back Veterans Day.

Back in 2003 our teachers lobbied to have school on Veteran's Day and instead be given off the day before ThanksGiving. Teachers also receive 2 comp days in November for Parent Teacher Conferences at night earlier in November. That year teachers lobbied for Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving for their comp days so the schools are closed the entire week of ThanksGiving. So basically our school district opted for celebrating ThanksGiving longer over Veterans Day. I lost that battle plus I always had problems finding daycare for those 3 days prior to Thanksgiving. It use to be that everyone was pretty much off for Veterans Day.
Ya, a trend that happened shortly after Vietnam. Veterans were expendable and many times blamed for a war that none of us wanted to be part of, but, we had taken an oath to protect and defend, so if something had to be dropped, guess what was the first to go!

However, Veterans do not need a holiday to be remembered and appreciated. Sometimes the appreciation is warranted, other times not. That is in connection with exactly what the aforementioned Veteran did during their time in the service. But, all were in a position to be placed in harms way. That ought to be worth something, I would think. More important then a "day" is that all voting population remember the value of the Veteran when their political leaders start deciding that in order to support their own retirement pensions, they start cutting programs like VA medical or other things that benefit those that did their best for their country.
