I always love when people say animals are so much better than people…well, then, you just don’t have the right people in your life…I’ll take the people in my life over the animals any day of my life, thank you.

The humans in my life are much more important.
I understand where you are coming from because when I was 6 or 7, my parents had to choose between get a rid of the dog or have my younger brother and I's health suffer. The dog was sold to a good home. I said good home considering the dog we had was a great family pet that was friendly, well behaved, liked young kids and the buyer had the perfect background.

Keeping the dog outside was not an option considering how the weather gets in Wisconsin during the winter.

What happened was my younger brother and I developed dog and cat allergies when we were kids and having a dog in house was not doing us any good due to allergies.

Pets to some are like members of their own family. To kill a pet with a bullet is extreme.

I think my last post was deleted, for some reason…
Not during the depression era my grandparents lived through, it wasn’t extreme. People were just trying to survive. You kept animals if they benefitted your survival, if they didn’t, you got rid of them in the most fiscally responsible way. And, I’m old enough to have heard stories from my grandparents living through that time. It sucked, but, you had to do what was needed to survive.
My grandfather on my Moms side started out as an itinerant farmer, traveling from job to job. He eventually ended up owning a 250 Acre farm, 3 tractors, 2 trucks, and 2 cars. A dog was the least of his concerns during the depression, as well as it should have been.

ETA…
Also, Carolyn and I were going over it last night, and this isn’t the first expense on this dog. He’s done stuff like this before, and he’s cost us over 10K in vet bills, so far. 10 friggin’ K…!!!!!

We don't have them. We have emissions testing we have to get done every few years, but no vehicle inspections except to register your car for the first time. It's like the wild West here. My dealer inspects my car for free when I take it for routine maintenance, though.

I believe that you sir would be exempt from emissions testing, though, because we don't make those of a certain age do it. As long as you're not excessively driving.
Nope in NC, 16 to 105 year old's require the yearly emission testing for their cars no matter how little they drive. It's not the age of the driver that make a difference it is more the age of the car. If you drive a car that is to old to have all the emission stuff built in and everything else passes then generally the test is waived.

Here we don't make our old people go for emissions testing. My grandfather no longer has to go because he's 87 and doesn't drive very much. I should have clarified you likely might not have to if you lived in Maryland.

I knew you were talking about Maryland, I was saying what happens here and also how it was in Vermont. I don't remember if you mentioned it or not, but do you have to have your cars inspected regularly? I'm only asking because I always want to know what I'm dealing with in other states. 😧

Unless, you folks really aren't concerned about the environment it seems silly to not require the auto's to be checked. If every old person in Maryland started their cars up even for an hour a week they still could be spewing a whole lot of garbage into the atmosphere if the emissions controls aren't working..

I know that even though I don't go many places anymore, I still manage to put around 11K on my car every year. I'll be a lot more this year since I drove my car to Vermont and back this year as well as the regular things I do.
