Ok, second opinion yesterday: after being told Kylie’s heart was mildly enlarged a month ago, we were told it was significantly enlarged. It is compressing the trachea and that’s why she’s coughing.

Second vet did not see last month’s x-ray, just the description of it.

We are realizing, in retrospect, this has been developing for awhile. Her excess panting, which we attributed to pain from worsening arthritis, was probably an early symptom of heart disease.

We have an appointment with a cardiologist next week, but best case scenario seems to be just stabilizing the situation, possibly for a matter of months.
Well, at least you have a bit more clarity about Kylie's condition. Stabilizing the situation is sometimes the best approach. Will be interesting to hear the cardiologist's assessment. Meanwhile, give Kylie a few treats.

And I'm celebrating by going to Hersheypark today!
Haven't had any chocolate, but I have ridden themed rides like Hershey Tower and Candymonium
Also not planned. Happy coincidence.

How does that improve the performance of the phone…?!
It’s like back in the day when dudes would put expensive mag wheels on their cars, and be so proud of it…sure, looks cool, but, those ain’t gonna’ make it go any faster…!!!!! :hilarious:
Talk to me when you put on some headers and a high rise intake manifold…!!!!! 🤣

Don't forget the news about it being badly designed. Aka the "new" usb C port can overheat the battery badly.
Same with using games on it.. despite it being advertised heavily as "games with raytracing" capable device.

Sorry for the rapidfire bad news updates, but here is the latest about Kylie, and it’s pretty much where my head was going already.

I got a call from the vet today, she received more test results back already, including one that had to be read by a radiologist.

It’s worse than we thought. She said for absolute certainty, it would have to be checked out by the cardiologist, but they are pretty certain that not only is her heart enlarged but there is fluid around it, as well as fluid in the abdomen. These two things make this much more difficult to overcome, and make it much more likely that there may be a tumor within the heart.

There is really nothing the cardiologist would be able to do at this point except upset her with more tests (we’re supposed to be keeping her calm) and tell us what we already know. Turns out with the fluid present, it’s past the point where meds would stabilize anything.

The vet wouldn’t come out and say it so I had to ask: are we at the point where it is reasonable and humane to do our best to make her comfortable until the bad outweighs the good, and then bring her in. She said yes but asked am I ready for that? It’s not about what I’m ready for, I’ll never be ready, it will always suck eventually. It’s about her living with more discomfort than enjoyment.

We’re refilling the medication that reduces the severity of the arrhythmia on Monday. As long as she enjoys holding court in the backyard and only coughs a few times a day, it’s status quo. As things progress, we may need to make a decision, or nature may take its course.

Again, I’m grateful for 14 wonderful years, so many Disney trips…Her birthday is Tuesday. 🥹It would be nice if she’s here for Christmas. 🥺🥺🥺

I’m so sorry. It sounds like you are wonder Dads to Kylie and she is one lucky pup to have you caring for her and loving her.

Sorry to hear that the news was not more positive; although at Kylie's age, setbacks can be expected. Just continue to keep her as comfortable as possible, and enjoy her company. She will let you know if and when things change.

DH and I went away for a few days last week, to go hiking up in the mountains of NH. We didn't scale any of the 4,000 footers or anything, but hiked in the lower elevations. Took only a few pix.

Pond along the trail:

Part of a trail crossed over the railroad tracks:

I like the quiet solitude of the train tracks cutting through the mountain pass:

I'm so sorry! That's awful news and you can never really be prepared for that kind of thing. But you have given her a great life for the time you've had her and I'm sure she loves you for it. Sending you hugs!
